Why flights OUT of MCO so high???

We are going to Florida twice this year, once in April and once in August/Sept. The flights going down to Orlando, I have gotten for a reasonable rate from jet blue but it seems that the return are so inflated. I booked flights down in August for $89 from Newark but coming back from Orlando they are double that. I check the planes and they are all empty. My mom needed a ticket from Orlando to Newark on April 13th, JetBlue was still
so high at almost $200. I checked United and got her a ticket for $104.

I wish I had an answer other than, "once they have you there, you have to eventually go home so you will pay what they ask!"

But seriously, I noticed the exact same thing for our November flights on United. The round trip was high and when you look at the one ways, that flight back was the reason.

All you can do is be vigilant, keep checking, and maybe you can find something reasonable. I did, eventually, get a better priced fare, not what I was hoping for, but at least I could live with it.

I paid $246 per person out of Mco and $121 out of IND

We are 2 adults flying RT from Chicago O'Hare. United is looking like $700. With economy seating. To go to economy plus it's another $140.... ugh lol

When I booked my trip for this May - and I booked the day they were released - a Saturday to Saturday stay was $450 RT. Going from Sunday to Sunday wasn't much better - $375 RT. I ended up booking Monday to Monday - $265 RT.

The downside is I had to take 6 days vacation instead of 5. I'm planning a trip late October also and booking this Sunday. Want to go from Friday to the following Saturday. Hope the prices are better - if not, we'll go from Mid week to mid week. Very frustrating!!

JB is only cheap on Tuesday and Wednesday in general. During sales you can get a gew other days, but Sunday and Friday are seldom cheap.

Newark is a very pricey airport. Having just relocated from central MA to Jersey City for work, I have been comparing airport options and in NYC Newark is always more than LGA or JFK on JB. I was spolied in central MA as I had Boston, Providence, Manchester, and Hartford within reasonable distance and all had competition to keep fares lower. With SWA not having direct flights from EWR/LGA/JFK to MCO, the competition is with Delta and United for JB and they don't really compete much on price.

Every now and then I can find a return from Tampa to EWR/LGA/JFK for much cheaper than MCO, so keep that option in mind if you'll have a rental. Tampa has a business traveler market that Orlando doesn't, so the weekend fares can be cheaper when the biz travelers are off the road.

It's the opposite for us next month.
We're paying $136 to get there, $87 to come back to Louisville on SW.

Our Vegas weekend is the same, $219 out, $257 back.

For trips further out, some airlines have not released flights/prices for those dates, meaning pricing competition hasn't occurred yet.

Did you ever consider flying out of Westchester? I'm not sure how much farther the drive would be, but I think it's only about 45 min from Newark.
