Why double names for Girl Scout Cookies???

Is that the "Thank U Berry Munch"? DH ordered several boxes of these, but he likes to dunk his cookies in milk, so I think they will be fine.

Has anyone tried the Dulce de Leche?

yes, I have tried both. They are perfect for dunking.

Anyone elses sales down this year?

This is my first year having 2 girls selling and we are not doing good. Pre-order sales end tomorrow. Thankfully everything sold through March 28th counts towards their totals. In the past my older daughter would sell 200 easy. This year she hasn't reached 75

I wish the council here would switch back to the bakery that makes the Tagalongs. A few years ago, they switched and now sell Peanut Butter Patties, which just aren't as tasty as Tagalongs IMO.

Interesting to note, that about 2 years ago ABC cookies went "zero trans fat" which to the finiky palate may have changed the taste.

If Little Brownie also went to zero trans fat (anyone know? we're in an ABC council here!:rotfl2:) The "tag-a-long" you've been missing may not be the same "tag-a-long" you ate years ago!

They could have made changes in the Tagalong too, but if they did, the changes aren't as noticeable. DH works in Delaware, where they still sell Tagalongs, and he got us a box last year. We compared the Peanut Butter Patties and Tagalongs and noticed that the Tagalongs had a thicker layer of peanut butter, which I think is a large part of the difference. We have asked him to look for Tagalongs again this year, but so far no one in the office has Girl Scout cookies. :sad1:

Here in western Md our troops cookies are 3.50 a box, they changed the names of the cookies on us also. I think they went back to the old names. L&G's Dad

We had our sale in the fall and the sales were way down. Last year DD sold 400 boxes. This year she barely topped 200.
And the troop was down almost by half!! :scared1:

We never got prizes for selling, I'm kind of jealous here. :P

Anyone remember the cookies with macedamia nuts and I think white chocolate? I sold them my first year, they were like "Aloha ____".

I don't remember the name but I liked them.
I do know that here in Philly they are still 3.50 a box. My DGD is a Daisy and I was really looking forward to buying from her troop. Daisies in her service unit aren't selling them this year because of the size of the unit and the economy.
Oh well I will be going out to get my thin mint fix soon.

Sales have been down this year for us as well.

Our council has switched to a system this year where people have to pay for the cookies when they order rather than when they are delivered. I think this has really hurt sales because no one has the money right now but they probably would have the money when the cookies show up being as that is around tax return time.

Last year we had girls getting 500+ cookie badges but I don't think anyone has broken over 100 this year.

I don't know, but my sis who is 10, I think, has sold plenty of boxes! It helps when each of her family member buys their own few boxes too.

Like others have said, it is the bakeries. As far as I know, there are just two bakeries, ABC and Little Brownie.

Yep, and they use different ingredients.

Thank goodness a Thin Mint is a Thin Mint everywhere!! :thumbsup2

They aren't.

ABC bakery:

Enriched flour (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, themine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acide), sugar, vegetable shortening (palm and/or partially hydrogenated palm kernel oil), cocoa (processed with alkali), caramel color, contains less than 2% of: high fructose corn syrup, whey, salt, leavening (sodium bicarbonate), soy lecithin, natural and artificial flavor, peppermint oil.

Little Brownie bakers:

Enriched flour (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, themin mononitrate (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), folic acid), sugar, vegetable oil (partially hydrogenated palm kernel and/or cottonseed oil, soybean and palm oil), cocoa, caramel color, containes two percent of less of cocoa processed with alkali, invert sugar, whey, leavening (baking soda, monocalcium phosphate), cornstarch, salt, soy lecithin, natural and artificial flavor, oil of peppermint.

Now, it might not look big to you. But anyone who has seen my posts about ingredient issues KNOWS that my family isn't touching the ABC Thin Mint for a million dollars.

And looking through the ABC ingredients, I see that *every single one* of the cookies has something related to corn syrup, even the Shortbread (thought shortbread was sugar, butter, flour, and more butter! but I'm not an expert, as I HATE shortbread). And since my family can't have any of it, they are absolutely "out" for us.

I think it is vitally important for people to know that they have different ingredients. Especially if you move, or if your local scout group changes what bakery they use from year to year. I never order ahead of time, and have been known to buy a box from people outside the stores. But when I first found out about ABC, I thought they were *it*, so I wouldn't/couldn't buy. I did give a donation a couple times, though. But then DS really wanted me to check (he watches me check everything else!) and I did, and found out about the two bakeries and the very important difference.

So hopefully the scouts in my area this year will still be using Little Brownie Bakers this year. Because while I wish they didn't use caramel color and artificial stuff, those things don't cause the over the top nasty reaction in DS, and he can have a cookie or two, as long as they don't have the corn syrup based ingredients in them.

(and I was very very glad to find out I could have the Tagalongs b/c I adore them.)

And now I see that not even they are totally safe for us. The Dulce de Leche have HFCS, and Samoas have either that or corn syrup. No big, I don't like Samoas and DdL don't hold much interest.

My favorites were Scot-Teas. They were the shortbread ones but coated with sugar...yum!!! I haven't been able to get them forever.

When my daughter sold cookies, they sold a fruity one called Pinatas. That may be the one some previous posters were trying to remember.

I agree with the previous posters who think Little Brownie cookies taste better than those made by ABC. When I was younger, our girl scout council used to order from Little Brownie, but now they've switched to ABC and you can really tell the difference, especially in the Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties (the chocolate to peanut butter to cookie ration is off in PBPs, IMHO) and in Do-Si-Dos/Peanut Butter Sandwiches (the peanut butter isn't as tasty and the oatmeal cookie isn't as oat-y in the PBSs). Plus, I miss the cute names.

Ppufi, don't be too upset about not getting prizes for selling cookies - they were pretty rinky dink. One year, I sold loads of cookies and my prize was a lock. Needless to say, you weren't missing out on much.

i have never heard of caramel delights, the girl scouts here call them samoas. and i love them.

Do you really think that having a box of Thin Mints once a year is REALLY going to do that much damage to your body??? Sorry, I guess I will live a year less then give up my Thin Mints :confused3

If I remember correctly, there are allergy issues at play here.

I don't get the 2 names thing. Even if different bakeries make them, why can't their names be standard?

That being said, I identify the cookies by what they are: lemon (my fav!), shortbread, thin mint... and the rest, well, I have to look at the picture on the box.

I am a troop leader and we are down overall as a troop in sales.
My DD would normally top 200 in presales, she only hit 87 this year.

The only girl in our troop who exceeded previous sales, hit up every teacher at the high school where her mom works. She reached 250. But even with that, we are down overall as a troop.
I hope booth sales help us pick up the rest.

Oh, we have Samoas, Do si dos, etc.
Back in Maine it was the other bakery. I never noticed a difference in flavor though.
DH had to order from one of my former troop members in Maine to get his Thanks A lots this year. We don't carry them.

Anyone remember the cookies with macedamia nuts and I think white chocolate? I sold them my first year, they were like "Aloha ____".

I think they were Aloha Chip. When my daughter was in scouts it was one of the choices for at least two years. I liked them. But my favorite will always be the thin mint!

If you can't find a scout, Google for your local Girl Scout store - that's where leader's buy badges, you can buy uniforms, etc. I know that my council store had lots of cookies! I always get mine at Town Meeting - last year I was very upset when they were out of thin mints before I got there. Having the cookies to munch on makes town meeting much more pleasant.
