Why don't we vote in polls?

Especially if we took the time to read the post!! I understand not posting a comment, but a simple click is all that's needed. Just looked at a poll asking to choose between FF and Yachtsman Steakhouse. Nearly 200 views, but just 25 votes.
Just to add that whenever I look at a poll, I'll vote. JUst like to know why others don't--.

Sometimes title's can be misleading. I know I've gone into threads to see what they were about, only find out it was something that didn't pertain to me or a question I could not answer. When it comes to polls, sometimes there aren't enough selections to be able to take the poll.

Plus the view count goes up because people may come back into a thread several times to check on it.

Sometimes I open a link with a poll and the poll choices include restaurants we've never tried. If that's the case, I most likely won't vote because I don't have personal experience with all of the poll choices. If the poll choices are about restaurants we have tried, then I'll most likely vote.

Yeah, what they said - we haven't (in the case of restaurants) eaten at all the choices, so we're not qualified to vote; but we do want to see what others have to say about the choices, as well as just the actual poll results.

For more subjective polls? Because none of the choices reflects accurately what we would do/recommend/etc., but again we want to see what other DISers think and how the poll results are going.

Because I may be interested in the results but not have enough information to vote which would be the case in your example.

I can see the point about not having enough information. And I should add that I won't vote in a poll where I have no real information to be able to do so. But many times I won't even read the thread if it pertains to that sort of situation.
But I'm still thinking based on the numbers of readers vs the numbers of voters that a lot of people who DO have the knowledge still don't bother to vote.

I agree. You don't want people voting just to vote - if they have never been to any of the choices listed. Then the results would not be reliable.

I have an idea. Why don't you create a poll and ask the question? You could make the two choices be (A) Yes, I vote in polls or (B) No, I do not vote in polls. I think I could tell you how it would turn out. :lmao: :lmao:

Seriously though, I think alot of the people who read the poll threads are people who may be wanting to try something but just want to see what others opinions are of it first.;)

Most of the time, I read a poll because I have the same question as the original poster and am interested in the results, but have nothing to contribute.

I'm with those who haven't eaten at the restaurants. I love to vote in polls! I really do. I like to see how my opinion compares to others. However, I haven't eaten at that many Disney restaurants, so I don't want to vote just to vote and then skew the results. I sometimes open the thread with the poll even if I haven't eaten at those restaurants because I am curious about the results of the poll. Also, sometimes people say something like "Vote and then tell me why you chose that restaurant in a post." If that is the case I might not vote because I don't want to take the time to post and explain why I made my choice.

I agree, sometimes the title doesnt tell the entire story and when I read the post I realize that I cannot vote because it doesnt apply to me or my situation or I never tried a place before etc....

I often don't even open the polls.

Often we like both restaurants named but we have different preferences within our family. Your example is perfect. I think 4 of us prefer FF but one would certainly pick YSH. For the sixth, it would depend on his mood.

If it's Kona vs. 'Ohana...I'll vote.;)

But maybe I should vote just for myself.

I don't vote if I'm not informed about the options

I don't vote in "public" polls. (not that this one was)

I will if I have a clue. If I don't have a clue, I will if I have an opinion. ;) I don't really like public polls on touchy subjects, but that's just the wuss in me...:upsidedow

Maybe you could make a poll about why we don't take polls?? Or maybe no one would take the poll... Then there could be a poll about why people won't take a poll about why people don't take polls... :lmao: But seriously, you did raise a good point. I will support the PP who mentioned clicking back on the thread again to see the results. I do that sometimes myself.

Like others have mentioned, there are many reasons that a poll thread will show artificially high 'views'. The OP or others may be checking results is the most likely reason for that.

Another reason, and one that I run into quite often, is I do not have enough information/the right history to vote.

Shortly after you posed this question there was a poll started with the subject "Whispering Caynon Cafe" I clicked on it, as i have been to WCC for dinner and have a pretty strong opinion about that dinner. I read the question and it was about Breakfast. I've never eaten there for breakfast, so clicked back out without voting. I feel that it wouldn't be fair for me to vote in that poll because I would be giving bad information regarding breakfast. My opinions only had to do with dinner (and didn't really pertain to the question)

I almost always look at the polls to see if I can vote in it, I won't vote if I feel I can't give an opinion. Sometimes though I like to look at the thread and see how the poll is going if it's something I'm interested in.
