Sorry to be so snarky-sounding, but when 5 of the first six posts are about homeschooling, I get to wondering what the moderators are here for...

Perhaps a separate forum here for all the homeschool questions?

That's exactly what we've been trying to get, a seperate forum.

It's my understanding also that a Homeschooling board or sub-forum has been asked for.

And not to sound "snarky" but there's a similar complaint on the budget board with all the ebay posts. I guess the best solution is if the topic doesn't interest you then scroll past it.

Until we can have our own fourm how by joining with us in asking the moderators for a separate forum? Sounds like a win-win situation to me. :wave2:

if you are a large group (i have never read those threads so i don't know) you might consider starting your own board!

you can get a free board at http://invisionfree.com/

i am on several boards that use invision and they are great.

Please join us in asking for a homeschooling board here on the DIS. Both of the main threads for homeschoolers are many many pages long so I know folks don't want to read the whole thing to ask a question. So far the Family Board has been a very friendly place to us homeschoolers(ever read a thread having to do with homeschooling on the community board? They're generally not pretty.) and I appreciate the moderators allowing us a place to meet up as it were. I understand your concerns though as I was kind of surprised yesterday at the number of posts too.

Please, let Alex and Pete know that we are taking up too much space here.

And mods, thanks for your patience with our homeless status!

It is not that hard to scroll past them.

Ditto. There are plenty of posts/subjects that don't interest me, so I just skip them. There are also plenty of posts that DO interest me, so those I read. DISers come from many backgrounds with many interests...There should be room for us all here, somewhere! :goodvibes

I'd be glad to mention it to the mods in an email. I don't have a 'problem' scanning past a few off-topic posts, but it seems like there are just too many here, with more than 50% being off topic sometimes! I think it could even discourage people who have Disney-related questions from posting, since it doesn't really seem to a place where their questions would be seen.

I am not trying to argue with you, but how could someone think their post would not be seen? At the bottom of the first page there are posts where the last response was on Dec 14th. This board just doesn't move that fast.

(Now on the CB you are lucky if the ones on the first page are more than an hour old.)

Do you have a specific family at Disney trip planning question that was lost or overlooked due to the posts you are objecting to?

The DIS is a large place, with many posters who have quite varied interests. There is plenty of opportunity for everyone to coexist. If a topic does not interest you, please just scroll past it.

If you're feeling snarky, maybe that's a sign that it isn't a good time for you to post or read... :)

I have no problems with scrolling past the threads that don't interest me. The one point that has me scratching my head here is why it would make sense to create a board for homeschooling here on the Dis? :confused3

:confused3

I don't get it either. If they create a homeschooling board, wonder if they will then create public school and private school boards? What about SAHM and WOHM boards?:confused3

Why do we have a scrapbooking and cooking board? Why a photography board? Why a board for people who are losing weight?

WHy not? If there is enough interest and enough dis'ers who would like to participate than what would it matter? What difference does it make to those who don't want to participate?

Some don't want to see the posts on the family board, some don't think it is "fair" to have a board just for the subject....what would be the suggestion then?

There are many threads on these boards that hold no personal interest to me, but I do respect the right of other dis'ers to share what is of interest to them.

How about an education board? :confused3

I think that would a bit more inclusive.

Or we can all just continue to open the threads that interest us and ignore the rest. :rotfl2:

Ironic...this thread is complaining about off topic posts and yet it's off topic itself.

Pot, meet kettle. lol (I'm kidding with you!)

Actually this thread is about all the homeschooling threads (as in there being alot of them) not off topic threads in general

There are several subjects on the DIS I have no interest in, but I don't whine about it. I skip them. Too bad some of those not interested in HS topics can't do the same.

Well, if you read the OP's follow-up post it stated (bold is mine):

I'd be glad to mention it to the mods in an email. Like WMKathy stated ... "The DIS is a large place, with many posters who have quite varied interests. There is plenty of opportunity for everyone to coexist. If a topic does not interest you, please just scroll past it. "

I don't get it :confused3 ... just scroll down or ignore the posts that don't appeal to you.

I don't know why people would be discouraged to ask something about Disney here because there are HS threads. It would be like saying people wouldn't ask about Disney deals on the Budget Board, due to so many ebay posts. It isn't as though these boards speed by like the CB.
