Why don't rentals provide beach towels?

I hope this doesn't sound petty, just wondering why a lot of rentals provide bath towels, but not beach towels? :confused3 This is our second year of renting from private owners (stayed in Destin last year) and same thing -- BYO beach towels. It wouldn't be bad if we were driving, but we aren't and I don't want to waste precious suitcase space on four beach towels. Those suckers are big! I guess we will just have to buy some cheap ones and leave them (not a fan of taking bath towels to the pool :) )

I've rented from three separate owners in Orlando...all had beach towels. I think if they didn't though...I'd just go to one of the many souvenir shops available and buy some cheap ones...too bulky to travel with!

We usually bring one or two, but there are often a few in the home as well. No promises, but a few---possibly left over from other guests who bougth them there and left them.

I also buy things from time to time that we use for our vacation, and then leave behind as a "gift" to the owners and other renters that come along. Presumably, the owners pitch most of it eventually, but I like to think *someone* will get some use out of it until then.

The homes we've stayed in all had beach towels. You can rent them at the Disney Water parks for $1.00 each but bear in mind they're not the greatest or biggest you've ever seen.

A lot of the homes have white house towels - which obviously isn't the best colour for beach towels .Some guests don't sort laundry and so wash the coloured beach towels with the house towels and so the white ones get ruined.Ask if the home you want has beach towels a lot of them have.

One of the things we don't like about house rentals vs a timeshare resort is that it can be too much like "being at home". These aren't resorts but a house on a street like any other. If you want that it can be nice but we prefer a place that has a bunch of on site, resort type features, scheduled activities and that is set up to offer a vacation/hotel type experience. If we were staying for a few months a house might be a better fit but for a week or two we prefer a great timeshare resort over any rental home.

May I ask what this has to do with the topic of this thread?

Sure - The reason beach towels aren't provided at rental houses is they are not set up to be a resort. They don't have big laundries and housekeepers to clean/straighten rooms, do laundry, etc. Like being home you need to bring/buy/do household chores and other things vs having them supplied or done for you.

It was an indirect answer to the OP's question but does fit.

Thanks Tototoo, now that you explain it like that I see your point. We have been fortunate because our villas have always had beach towels. But your right we are then responsible for laundering them and doing some other chores in the house. We like the extra room that a villa provides, but if we all liked the same thing, wouldn't it be a boring world.

The villa we stayed at did not have them but we knew this in advance. We thought this was a good opportunity to buy a souvineer (beach towel) for each of the kids that they could use again when we get home. They only just used them again tonight at swimming lessons. Its a nice reminder for them of the trip.

We rented at WH & beach towels were provided - although the owner did say they tend to find that they often change as people bring their own or inadvertently swap one:)

We have used the same home for our last 5 stays and will continue to because of how nice the homes are and there are no surprises. When we go to one off their homes I know that not only will there be beach towels but there will also be paper towels, soap, liquid soap, tissues, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, toilet paper, new kitchen sponge, coffee filters, packets of sugar, salt and pepper, and probably a lot more that I can't think of right now--also none of the items are starter items either. :goodvibes If we are coming from a DVC to stay and have already purchased these items, I leave them for the owners to give to other guests.

Hi -
Rental owner here. We used to provide nice big beach towels for guests to use at the pool. The reason we no longer do? They tend to go "missing". We had so many walk that we eventually gave up on providing them. Sad but true!

We rented a pool home this summer and they had beach towels (although we brought our own anyway). A good way to pack them is to lay it out flat in the bottom of your suitcase, pack the suitcase, then fold the ends over the top. They don't take up as much room that way.

I have no idea if our WH home that we are going to this month has them or not, but what I plan on doing is not taking any (because they take up too much space in luggage). When we are there, we will each purchase one as a souvenier. We plan on shipping back of box of misc/souveniers via UPS, so I will use the beach towels to "pack" things in the box. :goodvibes We have a pool at home, and can always use extra towels!
