A question I would like to ask. Why do people buy so much and then return it? You spend all day shopping. You have to get to the store early. Fight crowds, wait in long checkout lines. Hope you hit the best possible sale. For what? So you can come back the next day and return it all? I get the biggest kick out of people who complain about return lines. They almost always ask," why is the line so long?" I want to say,"If you and everyone else would keep half of what you buy maybe the line would not be so long."We had one lady bring back twenty pairs of pants, twenty shirts and four boxes of shoes. She tells me she got the wrong sizes.I'm just amazed. You don't know the correct size to buy? What a waste of time. Then I love the ones who give you their whole life story as to why they are returning. Honestly, who cares. Return it and move on. Also, why does Christmas bring out the worst in people? I guess working in returns for thirteen years I see people getting worse and worse. I always start off my day in a pleasant mood. When I leave I have to keep saying,"college tuition, college tuition."

"Bah, Humbug!"

I shop this way often because it's the only reasonable way for me to shop. I have an autistic son who doesn't take to shopping very well. If I'm going to maximize my time & energy I need to go as fast as possible, get it all home, try it on there, and bring back what doesn't work. Sorry if you don't cotton to that. Beleive me, you don't want us trying stuff on and carrying on in your store.

Perhaps a transfer would be in order...

Im just the opposite of the shoppers you encounter. If I get an item that turns out to be defective or doesn't fit, I'll usually keep it and give to someone who can use it just to avoid driving back to the store. Now, if it's a really expensive item, then I *might* return to the store. That's right.... *might*. :teeth:

I will often try out how an item looks or works in my house. Sometimes an item goes great, sometimes it has to be returned.
Or as with the case with my latest return I got 2 shirts and 2 ties at nordstroms for over 400 bucks. I got the idea to go check what nordtroms rack had and found 3 shirts 3 ties 2 packs of socks and a box of cuff links for 200. And the stuff at nordstroms rack was nicer. Guess what I returned it. It's my time and my money so I will return all I want!!

I feel your pain, minky. So glad I don't work in retail anymore.

I just returned two sweaters today to Target. I bought them for my sons for their xmas picture. I found two other sweaters that I liked better at Old Navy, so I took the Target ones back. We weren't going to wear them, I saw no reason to keep them or give them away. :confused3

Clothing is often returned since a size 18 is not always a size 18-and the same with men's clothing.

Just returned a pair of pants that were size 18 at JC penney--they were well too small. Went to Sears and found the same style in a size 16 that are almost too big.

Some items are returned as one may have been a gift, it went on sale somewhere else, liked something they saw better elsewhere, or a major expense hit and the cash was needed to cover that.

I doubt there are too many people out there that just return things as a hobby.

I'm sure people have a million reasons why they are returning something. Maybe it doesn't fit, it doesn't match like they hoped it would. Too big, too small, maybe they found it somewhere cheaper. Maybe they just changed their mind. What difference does it make?
You are there 6-8 hours a day I'm guessing. What difference does it make if you are stocking shelves, straightening displays, or doing returns? You gotta be there anyway, and it makes the day go faster if you just stay busy doesn't it??? :confused3

I usually don't have the kids with me when I clothes shop so when I buy something for them, I am guessing on the size. Once I get home and have them try on the clothing and either they don't like it or it doesn't fit, I return them.

No offense, but it really shouldn't bother you THAT much...

Wow, hope you never meet my mom. She's an expert shopper. And she often buys and then returns clothing. She may purchase for some of us, and if we drive over there and we don't like it, she'll return it. She buys things for herself that she decides at home she doesn't need, or she finds a better deal.

She is well known at the stores she frequents and the workers love her! They even call her at home if they think there's something new she'd like. :)

(re-reading this, it sounds as if my parents are made of money. they aren't, she's just a great bargain shopper.)

i do this with clothes usually...a lot of times i have kids with me while im shopping and i just buy stuff--whatever doesnt fit, i take back

Me, too. I HATE returning things and can't be bothered. My MIL is the exact opposite. She returns everything...sometimes several times before she finally settles on what she wants. I can understand once in a while but she is constantly returning things and it just seems like such a waste of time to me. She's even done this with the last 2 dogs she's had (well, 4 if you count the ones she's returned).

I think maybe you should look for another place to work... you sound very unhappy. I think your Christmas spirit is shot, too, LOL!

When I worked retail (As much as I hated it!) I could have cared less if they were buying or returning. All the same to me, really. I'm there anyways to work and I'd rather do that than stock shelves! I HATED stocking!

I return a lot also--I can't shop with kids and choose clothes, try on clothes and purchase clothes without one of them needing to go to the bathroom, fighting or whining. So I buy what looks cute and return what I don't like. They always have tags and I return as soon as possible. I don't think what I do is bad. If I couldn't return, they wouldn't get my business! And I love to shop!!!

Why do I return stuff to the store? Well because I can buy 3 different shirts for my DS and even though the tags all say size 8 they are all 3 different sizes! If he isn't with me how do I know which of the 3 is the "right" size 8? Every so often I will buy clothes for myself only to find out when I get home that what I bought matches nothing else I own. Sorry but if you work at the service desk returns are a big part of the job. I guess when I was a cashier I could have complained about why people had to buy so much stuff. But I guess if they didn't buy stuff I wouldn't have had a job. Maybe that is something you should think about.

I agree.

Does the OP's store price match? Many times people simply find a better deal after already buying the product.

The problem I have is people should think before they buy. If you have to return an item or two, fine. When you have to return everything you just purchased that is when I have a problem. Those same people then complain about how long the return line is. I guess if you worked in returns you would see my point.

When I worked at Express (many moons ago) I was just thrilled to be at the wrap desk on register, than dealing with the floor. If you have a problem with returns, then you really just have a problem with the job you chose.

Don't worry, it should be worse after Christmas.

(just teasing :teeth: )

I have worked in returns and I don't see your point. Like I said before without those people the store wouldn't need a return desk or you.
