Why Doesn’t Disney Build Value or Moderate Resorts Anymore?

If you look at the numbers, it’s clear that Disney is focusing more on expanding its Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resorts rather than adding more Moderate or Value options. There are already over 17,500 rooms available in the Value and Moderate categories, while Deluxe and Deluxe Villas only make up around 10,000 rooms.

From a business perspective, this makes sense. Deluxe resorts generate higher revenue per guest, with guests willing to pay premium prices for accommodations, dining, and amenities. Meanwhile, the Value and Moderate resorts already provide plenty of options for guests looking for more budget-friendly stays. Since those categories are well covered, Disney seems to be prioritizing higher-end experiences that bring in more profit while still maintaining a range of choices for different budgets.

When Walt Disney World opened the Caribbean Beach Resort in 1988 the Caribbean Beach Resort became Disney's first attempt of a moderate resort and by using the same price figures as motels like Super 8 and Motel 6 do Disney played it smart and soon more moderate resorts followed and started having cheap travel deals. But when it comes to moderate resorts Disney knew the price is right for families who wanted to enjoy Walt Disney World on a cheap budget. But when the Walt Disney World Swan opened in 1989 "Which wasn't a Disney owned hotel but owned by Westin/Marriott" and the Walt Disney World Dolphin opened in 1990 Disney had wanted to make hotels to attract the business oriented audience and I think this type of audience was what they had in mind when the Swan And Dolphin were developed. Because a lot of companies often use Disney resorts for company meetings and company training in Florida so that the workers can take their families to Walt Disney World while the wives can take the kids to the parks while the husbands attended the meetings. But also in the 90's another type of resort hotel was being developed and that was millitary resorts and when they became popular with active and retired millitary personnel and they have villas and trailer parks too. Disney jumped on this bandwagon when they transformed The Disney Inn into Shades Of Green and although it was Disney's first millitary-only resort it also became a moderate resort and since Shades Of Green Disney has never ever had another millitary-only resort hotel since. I think because they consider these types of resorts a lot of money to develop and build. But I also think why Disney has stopped building value and moderate resorts for Walt Disney World is because if you look at the majority of travelers they are mostly senior citizens and they mainly go to Walt Disney World because their kids have grandchildren now and they take the grandchildren. But maybe someday Disney will return to developing new value and moderate resorts someday in the years ahead

What DVC is doing now, is build a 'tower ' or take a building at a preexisting resort.
The resort gets a free upgrade/remodel paid for by DVC. HUGE win for that resort.
Disney is following the money.
Did Poly Tower upgrade Poly? It seems like a downgrade. More people using the transport, more people with access to the overstuffed main pool in exchange for a rather lame pool and a pretty walk-up restaurant. And I didn’t even go into the eyesore factor…

Shows how long it's been since we've stayed there. I just know I've seen folks talking about AS resorts in the $200s - possibly those are last-minute, most expensive situations. Thx
Disney doesn’t yet have dynamic pricing for hotels (rumored to be coming in the near future) so the price is the price no matter when you book. Only discounts change it.
