Why does the Carribean Beach Resort not get mentioned much??

I'm just curious why CBR doesn't get mentioned much? You hear about all the other resorts, mostly POFQ/POR, CSR and all the deluxes. Is this resort that bad? I had looked at some pictures of the resort and it looks really very pretty. When is the pirate pool suppose to be completed? Was this the resort where bedbugs were reported? Is it really spread out, meaning alot of walking? My dd has a girl at school that vacationed here and I was just wondering what the resort was like. We love the whole pirate theming of the new pool area and the bright colors look really nice. Just wondering.......If anyone has any input from RECENT visits and any RECENT pictures to share, I would love to see them. THANKS!

Not sure myself. We had stayed at BC/YC (one or the other) for 8 years running and then our son wanted to try another resort. Since we were somewhat irked by the rates going up so much each year, we decided to try CR for one year (as a compromise - still a deluxe, but not as expensive as YC/BC). Then last year, he wanted to try another resort and since we had enjoyed trying something new the year before, we tried CBR. We knew a few people who had stayed there before, we liked the pictures, and compared to the other trip reports. Since there are lovers and haters of all the resorts, we finally chose it due to the room size. Having been used to the deluxes for several years, we weren't sure what to expect. Looking back several months later, we are still glad we tried it and we booked for the bounce-back before we left so we're looking forward to it again this year.

The rooms were cleaned as well most of the deluxe trips we've had (trust me, there can be issues in any resort). Yes, they were smaller than the deluxes, but not by much. Beds were very comfortable - no bed bugs, we did check but we always do. Nothing left under beds, paper supplies always well stocked, extra towels whenever we needed them. Bathrooms were always nicely cleaned and we had no issues with mildew or bugs or any of the other things that some have had to deal with at various resorts.

I'm sure that people can and have had problems at all the resorts, so I'm not stating that there can't be problems. But, after saving as much as we did last year (we stay for 14 days each trip), we were thrilled to have a good experience at a moderate resort. We had stayed at POFQ several years ago, the rooms were smaller, but we had no significant problems there either. I think you just have to try it yourself and be able to stand your ground if you have major issues anywhere. In our experience, the management and staff have always been reasonable when approached with relevant, fact-based concerns and have always responded positively (with the exception of one issue at YC, but that's another story).

Where ever you choose, I hope you have a wonderful trip.

This was Disney's first moderate resort and people tend to overlook it. My guess is because it has been around for a while, people got board and wanted to try other newer mods.

I stayed there several years ago and loved it.

The only slight disappointment I had was that the main pool could have been bigger, but other then that, it is Disney all the way. The grounds around the resort are beautiful and Old Port Royale has a great food court, shopping and game room and a full service restaurant.

I have never stayed at CSR but I did visit and from my first impression I liked CBR better, but that is not fair because it was hot that day and I didn't explore the entire resort.

I dont know why either. Doesn't it have the biggest room of any mod?

Its a lovely resort, I think the vistas it offers are unparalleled at other mods. With the central island, its very nice. Its also nice walking through all that vegetation. Its also nice to have the little mini beaches, means you can lay about in the sun on the hammocks, or on the beach, instead of just beside the pools.

I don't know that any of the mods are better than the others, but I quite like the CBR. I've never seen the CSR in person though, just pictures.

Im interested to see what the new pool will be, i bet good.

You will find many fans of CBR. When the new pool opens I am sure it will be more popular than ever.

my problems - was with my mother in a wheelchair - the sidewalk had sand on them - try pushing a wheelchair thru sand.

the first time - they put far, far away,Trindad South - the walk to the food court was almost a 1/2 mile. much to far for me at the time. Wouldn't surprise me that Pop Century food court is closer to this building than CBR. (don't know this for a fact)

at night I like my resort to be lite - now that mother is in a nursing home - I travel solo. This resort was dark in lots of places. Don't like dark. They are trying to be romantic - but walking back from the bus in those dark places to me was :scared1:

We stayed at the CBR for our first ever Disney trip last May 07. When I researched the resorts, we were looking at the moderates because they are cheaper than the deluxes and I liked the theme, colors, beach area etc.. so we booked the trip. We had a great time. The room was fine, clean, housekeeping was great. We had no problems what so ever. I loved walking to Old Port Royale and hearing the island music. It had such a relaxing feeling to it. The bus service was excellent. The CM's were super nice. The food court area was great. We took our 4 yr old and 3 yr old and they got their chicken fingers in a sand bucket with a shovel. They loved that. They used them at the pool. We are going in 17 day's but decided to stay at CSR. DH wanted to try a new resort even though I really wanted to go back to CBR. The pool at CBR is under construction until September so that made it easier for me to try a different resort. You will love it if you go. It is Disney and no matter where you are, you have to walk. We only had a five min walk to Old Port Royale, two minute walk to the bus stop. You could see the fireworks from Epcot on the beach area by Old Port Royale at night. I am a huge fan of CBR. :) Enjoy if you go!

I've stayed at CBR three times, December 1991, May 2005 and August 2007. I had an excellent stay all three times. I don't know why it gets overlooked. I love the theming and the layout. It's very quiet and relaxing especially at night in a hammock on the beach.

It's big and spread out seems to be the #1 thing IMO. I don't find it to be true. It is big don't get me wrong, but I personally have never felt the need to walk throughout the entire resort. Just from my room to Old Port Royal and bus stop. Which from most "islands" isn't too bad and if you find it too far there is an internal bus.

The rooms are hotel rooms. I really don't expect that much, but maybe that's just me. I find them nice. The bathroom is a good size, double sinks and under sink cabinet for storage are great, the beds are comfortable, there is a tv, refrigerator and safe, towel animals every day, mousekeeping very good...I don't need anything else.

The food court is good with a lot of different choices - something for everyone IMO and the TS, Shutters, for dinner is very good. We ate there several times and never had a bad meal from chicken to steak to pasta. The Grab & Go is wonderful - souvenirs, beer, drinks, snacks.

The pools are nice although I can't wait to see the new main pool. We never had a problem with getting chairs at the main pool no matter what time of day we went. The quiet pools were definately that...no more than one or two families at any given time.

I could go on.............

Here are some pictures from my August 2007 trip.

As I said in my earlier post my only small disappoint was the main pool looked bigger in pictures, so I was a little disappointed.

But now that I see they are putting a new pool, I think I have no small issues with this resort at all. I woudn't hesitate to give it a 10.

When I fall out of love with Pop Century, I will go back, but for now Pop is my place.

We love the CBR. It's been a few years since staying there, so I'm sure we will stay there for one of our next upcoming trips.

I agree, though...it doesn't get a lot of mention and it should!

We have only stayed at CBR once (this past November). But we loved it so much, that I have changed our reservations for this June from WL to CBR.

Wow you liked you better than WL?? I'm trying right now to decide between WL and a moderate resort. :scratchin Maybe we would like CBR since we the Poly. Hope you and your DD have a great trip!!

CBR is my favorite resort. YES, I love it even more than the Polynesian. For short trips we do like to be on the monorail if possible but when our vacation are 7+ nights we love the moderates with CBR being our favorite. It was the first Disney resort I stayed in back in 1989 and returned 3 more times after that.

CBR doesn't get the love it deserves and I've no idea why that is. It's a great place - very bright, colorful, adorable rooms, okay pools and a decent food court. The landscaping is about as Florida-y as I could want.

For the life of me, I don't get the fascination with the Orleans resorts.

But, to each his own!

I dont know why either. Doesn't it have the biggest room of any mod?

.

Yes.

I think it just doesn't have the "cheerleader" on here that some of the others do.

It's my favorite mod! Bigger rooms, TONS of quiet pools, hammocks and since it was built before Disney got cheaper my standard view is not "Full parking lot"

Personally I don't get the CSR hype. It's hotter then the suface of the sun in Orlando in the summer so let's go to a resort themed like a DESERT????

We are leaving in 3 weeks for a trip to the World and when we were in the planning stages we really wanted to stay at CBR because of the theme and because of the main pool. However after reading the DIS I found out that the main pool was under reconstruction and we decided not to stay there. Our biggest reason was that if we wanted to go swim in a regular pool, we'd just go to my mom and dad's house. We really wanted a themed pool. So this trip we're trying a Deluxe for the first time and staying at WL. We're really looking forward to it and I figure on our next trip to WDW we'll stay at CBR. We really enjoyed our stay at POR and wanted to go with another moderate, but the only one that really appealed to us for this trip was CBR.

We stayed at CBR for our 1st anniversary trip - 4 years ago now - and just loved it! We are staying there again on our spring break trip. Leaving Friday, BTW!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I loved the theming and colors and landscaping and quiet pools - just everything. I am a hotel snob and CBR is one of my favorites - up there with the Beach Club for me.

Although we have never stay at CBR--I look forward to staying
there on a future trip. CBR will be our last MOD, we've stayed at
all the other MODS. I'm sure we will love it. The more I look at the
pictures the more I look forward to staying there.

My son (who was 5) and I stayed there last year. I thought it was great. I especially loved the beach area -- one night after a swim he played in the sand and I lounged in the hammock by the water with a lovely breeze and the reflection of the lights from the building glistening on the water. Can you tell this is one of my favorite memories ever? :)

This year we are going to POFQ, and here's why:
CBR was absolutely HUGE. We were in a good spot as far as the food court was concerned -- Aruba, building 34. But the walk to our bus stop was frankly, crazy. After a loooooooong day in the park with a cranky 5-year-old who was too tired to walk, lugging the stroller and a bag...it was just too much for me. Not only that, but we were on the 2nd floor, with no staircase nearby. So we had to loop around and around to finally get to our roon. Ugh. This is NOT one of my favorite memories ever.

Otherwise, it was great. We loved the pool, the room, the service, the food court, the "beach". It was a great time overall.

We stayed at CBR last September and loved it -- no complaints at all!! It was the first time we stayed there (as we generally stay in a different resort each visit), but i would definitely stay there again!!
