Why does Test Track break down so frequently?

We were at Epcot on Sunday. Got FPs for TT first thing. We went back about 10:30 am and the ride had broken down. The CM said the FP line would be 30 minutes, but that we could come back any time later that day. We returned about 12:30 pm, got in line and went through the briefing room. Once we exited to get in line for the cars, it broke down again for about 10 minutes. We did finally get to ride and it was great. I was just curious to find out if anyone knows what is the problem with this ride since I keep hearing stories about it breaking down.

There really is no problem with the ride at technically speaking the ride doesn't "break down." Test Track very rarely closes for any real problem mechanical or otherwise. The problem at Test Track is that because of the nature of the attraction there is a ton of very sensitive safety equipment that can very easily be set of. If two cars get two close to each other for even just a second the computers shut the whole ride down. Many other things can set it of including condensation building up on the attractions moisture sensors.

Due to the heat and humidity (rain as well) from the FL weather, the track releases natural gas and rises to the tracks surface. When this happens the cars can go off track, thus causing a possible catastrophic event.

Aka, for safety measures.

One of the reasons Disney has been building rides inside buildings instead of outside.
