Why does Target not price match other Targets when it comes to marked down items?

Price match generally requires you being able to show the lower price. How was the store that hasn't discounted the item to know that it is discounted elsewhere?

If the item is clearanced or cheaper online, they do price match. I do it often. This shows up when I scan for coupons in the Target app and a lower price shows up. They always match it but I have it looked up to show.

Why not buy the one online at the 1/2 off and just return the full price one?
It is no longer available for purchase online. The site lets you know this/no longer available for shipping. It should be a clearance item. IMO, the store where I finally located the item had just failed to mark it down. This is the Disney x Junk Food collection and the entire line is on clearance, both in stores and online. I figured they would just say, oops that should be half price. I thought the short set (more like pjs) was super cute and purchased for my daughter’s Spring Break Disney trip. After searching and finally locating the set, the irony is, she doesn’t even like it much. I think I am determined to keep it just because it was so hard to find! I am also determined to have Target admit it should be on sale! The stores are full of the collection, all on clearance. This set is harder to locate. I guess it was popular.

And maybe what I bolded is why it's not on clearance. You're digging in your heels over something your daughter doesn't even want, just to prove a point that may very well be incorrect. I suggest returning it and "let it go," as the song says.

I think most stores don't price match clearance prices from other locations. I work for Walgreens and I know we don't. As it's been mentioned, most of the time clearance prices are at the individual store's discretion, not company wide.

After three tries, I finally got someone who took the time to look at my receipt and take note of the fact that I had purchased two items from the Disney x Junk Food collection, which is on clearance across the board on Target.com and in stores. I was charged full price for one item & clearance price for the other.

The Target rep then concluded as I knew all along, that there was a system error & that I should not have been charged full price.

They are issuing a gift card for the balance.

It had become more a matter of principle.

One response I got, told me to return the item for a full refund, if I wasn’t happy with the price.

That is not the way to talk to a customer.

Glad I got this resolved. It was never a matter of “price matching.” In my mind that is not the same as “price adjustment.”

In this case I had been charged the wrong price.

You do have to keep an eye on Target. Once during Christmas season, they had the Small Tsum Tsums priced incorrectly in their system. Can’t recall how much, but it was way more than it was supposed to be. I pointed this out at the register and a manager had to come over. A few days later, I was purchasing again (trying to find the set for my daughter) and they had not made any correction & the same thing happened again.

Any customers who weren’t paying attention, probably over paid and had no idea.

So, it literally always pays to be aware of pricing.

Actually, from what I hear from people that work at Target, they are pretty strict on employees taking advantage of sale items like this-especially Black Friday deals.

My son works at Target and, trust me, they snag all the good stuff 1st :cool1:

Not everything sells at the same degree from one store to another. If you have a, lets say pressure cooker, that doesn't sell in one Target, but, is a hot item in another. The store with the problem clearing them out will mark them down to get them out of inventory. The other store isn't going to lower it because it sells in their store. It's one thing when the competition lowers a price for the sole purpose of getting people to shop with them. Each Target isn't really competing with each other so the mark down was just to clear out inventory in one store, not to compete.

Perhaps a better example my be that as happens a lot lately, Sears decides to close a store. The other Sears stores in the area do not lower their prices down to clearance prices, because they don't want to clear it out and have no reason to do so.

Well, this Disney Junk Food collection was pretty darn cute, so I hope they will have more of it in future. It was a wide range of items, not strictly clothing. I guess so much of it ending up in clearance was not a good sign. The store I ended up finding my item in was a very busy one, connected to a shopping mall.

Gap had some cute Disney stuff too. They still have the kids stuff. but I am not seeing as much in adult sizes. Got a cute Minnie tote there and some ladie’s socks. I had an oversized poplin shirt with a small Mickey patch on it, but returned it. Mistake. Nowhere to be found now.

I’ve just learned with Target, the pricing is basically all over the place.

Yes, I've been in a few Targets scanning prices early in the morning and a sales associate was doing that too. When they'd find something, they'd place it in their shopping cart they are using for mis-shelved items and say to another associate that they have to call their mother/sister/friend to come pick it up, now that the price was so great. Then they wheel the cart to the back area where it's out of the way and a customer can't take the item(s) out of the cart. So they get around with the rule of not buying clearanced items themselves. Just have a family member or friend pick it up. Now, with group texting with pictures and they can also send alerts of clearanced items to friends & family and get a text back to put it in the cart to hold for them.

Other times, some cashiers eyes popped open when they saw the clearance price of an item I was getting and asked if there was any more on the shelf. I don't think it was just idle curiosity, wondering about the inventory. :rolleyes1
