Why does nobody like the hat??

"Nobody" is an overstatement. :) A lot of people do like it, but there are also a lot of people who don't. I dont have an issue with it, myself.

I definitely don't have a hate on for the hat, or the placement of it. That could very well be that my first trip to the world was last year. I definitely get where people are coming from, but I do really like the hat.

I never saw the park without the hat, but I'm firmly on the anti-hat side.

The main theme of the studios is supposed to be classic hollywood. Throughout the front of the park and the two main streets, that theme is executed brilliantly, with one huge glaring exception. A big blue sorcerer's hat in the middle of the street. I have no problem with the hat being at DHS, but it should be over in the animation section, where it doesn't interfere with the classic hollywood atmosphere of the front of the park.

That's what you should see upon entering the park, not the tacky hat.
It's nice and all...but...It just doesn't seem as "grand".

That's the thing with the 4 parks' icons...every single one is GRAND. Cinderella's Castle, the Tree of Life, and Epcot's Golf Ball(). How many people are going to say, "Whoa, there's the Chinese facade over there? Neato!"

Disney designed something that would catch your eye, and, IMO, ties in with the park perfectly. That is why I like the hat.

I have no real strong feelings for either side, but can agree after seeing the pictures, that the theatre view with no hat was very nice. The first time going to HS I was like wow really all thats under the hat is a store? But as far as the hat not going with the classic Hollywood theme, well, Fantasia did come out in 1940.
Also, am I the only person that continously gets lost in HS? I have always been content with my sense of direction, but for some reason in that park, its all out the window :confused3

Nope! Count me in. It's like a maze in there...:rolleyes2

A castle, particularly Cinarella's, is something one would expect to find in a Kingdom, particularly a Magic one with Princesses. A tree with animals is something one would expect to find in Africa, or some other exotic Animal Kingdom. A Futuristic geodesic dome, particularly one intended to represent a spaceship, is something one might expect to find in an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. The Studios was intended to take you to the glitz and glamour of 50's Hollywood. If they wanted a hat they should have made a huge Brown Derby! The last thing I would expect to find in old Hollywood is a giant blue sorcerer hat hawking trinkets. Yes, it did come from a movie, so you can shoe horn a "fit", but I don't think it is perfect at all.

The thing about Disney, or Disney as Walt intended it, is that parks/resorts/attractions should take you to a time and place. When you enter the Magic Kindom you aren't just in a land in a theme park, but Main Street, USA transports you to mid-20th-century small town America. The Polynesian isn't just a hotel, but you instantly find yourself in a real Polynesian Village. Heck, even Dixie Landings, which Walt himself didn't conceive, transports you to the Old South. That is what theming does, and that is what has always made Disney special. The Studios had such theming, and the hat does nothing but interfere with it, IMHO.

The streets in the back are what get me. What the heck is with that anyway? :confused3

That's because they were originally part of the working studio when the park opened but got open to foot traffic when they tried to increase capacity. They really imo don't have a purpose anymore and I honestly think it should be billdozed for a pixar or star wars land. Sorry for the :offtopic:

The problem is that Hollywood Boulevard, the entryway of Disney's Hollywood Studios, is meant to look like you've time-traveled to the early 20th century, and the big-**** hat kinda breaks that illusion.

It's like if they put it in the new Buena Vista St. section of Disney's California Adventure. It just doesn't fit.

Which is kind of an appropriate comparison considering the Carthey Theater is so prominently featured in their advertising and brochures for the park. Based off the logic of the Chinese Theater at MGM not being a grand enough icon (even though the Earful tower was the official icon), It sounds like they may need to place a BAH in front of the Carthey in order to keep it from being mistaken as the park's icon.

Actually, I think I read that the Carthey Theater IS the official park icon now.

I like the hat:confused3

And I also always get turned around and lost in the back streets :rotfl:
