Why does my internet explorer stop responding??

I have IE 6....and am forever freezing...I have to hit control/alt/delete...and end task....it is driving me nuts!!!

I don't have anything else running in the background either.....

Any advice?? (oh...I have Windows 98 too)

Maybe that is what's going on with mine too. I go along for a while then I can't get into any links. It's been happening for past couple weeks. I thought it was my kids downloading a bunch of stuff again or my broadband. HMMMM

Same here!! I thought it was just me...I'll go to post, or be in the middle of reading something, and suddenly it "freezes" or I can't find my cursor.

Knowing this doesn't solve the problem, but at least I'm not alone!

Oh great! I just upgraded from 5.5 last weekend. I was having some serious problems with Outlook Express & needed it to correct the problems.

So far, I haven't had this happen to me. I did notice that in addition to SP1 for IE6, there was a new patch, dated Oct 30. Have you upgraded to IE6 SP1? If so, you might want to try applying the new patch also. I have no idea what it was supposed to fix, but I've found it's best to keep up to date with the service packs & patches.

This has been happening to me for the last couple of weeks too - and I'm 99% sure it's only when I'm Dising. I haven't noticed it happening once with anything else and it's worse with multi page things, like the Riddle - I think. Maybe it's just trying to tell me I Dis too much!

Well I have to tell you people that Internet Explorer 6 was only designed to work with Windows XP. It will manage with Windows 2000 and only get's worse the lower down you go.

Windows XP is a complete different file structuring than Windows 98. Obviously it works sometimes but it was never guaranteed to work all the time.

Internet Explorer 5.5 is the highest one designed to work with Windows 98.

I've had this Windows, I think it' 6, my husband's the expert for a long time, I think a year. I've had the problems for about 2 weeks and only when I'm on the Dis. Just freezes. Happens with nothing else.

You have Windows XP? Easiest way to tell is if you right click on the My Computer Icon and then select properties, it will tell you.

That or the Start Menu will be Green instead of Grey

Then more than likely (it's still possible to give Windows XP the look of previous versions) you have Windows 98. I would think about downgrading to Internet Explorer 5.5

Thanks, I'll talk to my husband about it. But why would it work ok for months and only have problems with the Dis. DH surfed for a couple of hours on Sunday, no probs. I froze four times on the ---Dis, nothing else? I really would like to know.

If it just happens on the Dis it's probably something going on on the Dis web server, like it's just on the verge of becomming too busy to respond or something like that. Also, i've heard that PHP (the language used to build the Dis) can time out if an operation takes too long.

Well the only reason to tell you is:

As to it only seeming to happen on the DIS, there are so many things loading up all at one on the DIS (every single button, everyone's pictures - which come off of many different sites)

All that added together can take a toll on an Internet Browser.
