Why does my glass shower door always have water spots?

I've done everything I can think of-whenever DH or I take a shower, we use the squeegee. DH swears by Rain-X on his car windows, so we watched the youtube video on doing it on shower doors, no difference. Even the factory coating (whatever the installer used) didn't work. Then someone told me "It's the water in [our town]. It's hard-you need a water softener", so out we went and bought one. That didn't help! Meanwhile Disney keeps taunting us-whenever we go there and take a shower, no water spots. And there aren't even any squeegees! Sometimes I feel like the housekeepers just have some secret sauce they put on the shower doors that repels water, but I can't get them to tell me what it is. Does anyone else know the secret?

When I was in the Marine Corps we would use shaving cream and/or aqua velva to remove water spots from surfaces.

Shaving cream would be used on flat, smooth, glass or metallic surfaces and aqua velva would be used on metal surfaces that weren't flat and smooth like shower/sink drains, faucets, handles, etc...

You don't need expensive shaving cream, your good old $1 a can barbasol works great. It's also good for smuggling out dinosaur embryos.

I dont use anything special. I wash with Cif then rinse down with the hose. When its almost dry I then buff with a dry towel. Always have shiny glass shower doors and bathroom mirrors.

Before I had my doors replaced, I had an issue that there would be water spots. This was because there were some that "stained" and could never really be removed. I've had my "new" doors for 5 years now and I have taken care of them from Day 1 and I don't have the water spots. I squeegy and then wipe down after every shower. Once a week I clean with SprayAway glass cleaner and that's it. We also have very hard water where I am.

Lime away helps since a lot of it is from hard water. I never had much luck with using vinegar. I also use a magic eraser to wipe down the doors with the limeaway. Squeegee after every shower. It's a total pain. In my master bath, we have no glass and no shower curtain since it's has a large square shower base. There's just an opening. At first I thought it was weird but the water mostly stays inside the shower and it's so nice not having a door to clean or a moldy shower liner to replace.

i used dawn and white vinegar because I had hard water and that was the only thing that worked but I couldn’t stand the smell of vinegar I switched over to power wash it works like a dream ! Now when I get done taking a shower I wiped the doors down with a microfiber cloth no more spots no more water stains the doors looks sparkling clean every time it takes literally two minutes to wipe the doors down you can get a pack of microfiber cloth from Walmart you can use them over and over before you need to wash them them up to dry between uses
Good luck
For full disclosure I’ve tried the shaving cream the rain x and I’ve used gallons of lime away I’ve also missed barkeepers’s friend etc
Dawn power wash so far works the best

The Travel Size of Barbasol is $1 these days, the regular can is $1.93.

BREW RITE. it's made to put through coffee makers in order to remove the calcium and other hard water stuff but if you put it into a spray bottle and fill with hot water you can apply it to the worst hard ward spots and deposits (including the gross, funky orange iron deposits). let it sit a few minutes and use a mr. clean magic eraser (or non abrasive scrubbie). it may take multiple applications/scrubs with hard set in stuff but it works.

I just got a descaler installed last week to deal with my hard water . I could tell a difference by day two in my water !! Best thing ever !!! No need for a water softener with this ! Plus it will address all the crud already built up in my pipes !! No more having to lime away my faucets !!! Should have done this years ago !!! Hard water is a daily pain to deal with !!

I never have spots. But I do have house keepers clean every two weeks.
Not sure what they, use, plus no spots in between cleanings.

My old had glass shower doors. It seems like the soap scum was a lot worse than the water spots for me. IIRC dryer sheets worked fairly well removing that.

Reading through I realize I would love a shower door Roomba that could manage corners.... hear that Roomba you got 6 months to Christmas ;)

Theoretically I like shower doors, but they always get nasty! If it's not the glass, it's the rubber or the rollers or the handles or something! When I remodeled my bathroom, I went with a curtain and couldn't be happier. You can throw it in the washing machine, even the vinyl liner. Once the liner gets too nasty or torn up, you just replace it for a few bucks. It's just so much easier, plus I have a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea shower curtain! 😁

I use a combination of vinegar and water to spray the shower walls, fixtures, and glass doors after each shower. It works to keep the spots off the doors and helps to keep the shower stall clean. I use l/2 cup vinegar to l and l/2 cups water and use a spray bottle. We have hard water too. This has helped with the spots and cleanliness of the shower immensely. Hope it helps you.
