Why does my deodrant have a warning?!?

I just saw on my deodorant a warning to consult your dr before using if you have Kidney disease! What the heck is that about?!?

It's the anti-pesrpirant that does it. The aluminum is difficult to filter when you have impaired kidney function.

I had no idea. Makes me wonder if maybe its not the best stuff to use? I don't have kidney issues but still that seems kind of concerning.

With normally functioning kidneys, it should be fine. I use "normal" deodorant and I've had a transplant. I used Tom's when I was on dialysis.

The body absorbs the aluminium through the skin (from the deoderant) and its the kidneys that clear it out of our bodies. Those with kidney problems/disease, may not be able to clear the aluminium efficiently which could be dangerous. Not all deodorants contain aluminium that's why not all contain the warning and also different deoderants (anti perspirants) contain different levels.

There are tons of places questioning alum in your blood, and what level is safe/toxic. but PP is correct it is the big dif in anti p and deod.

I now avoid the deodorants with aluminum. There are theories that it contributes to breast cancer. There are lots of other choices.

Yup, also couldn't use deodorant when receiving radiation of the breast - for 7 weeks. Corn starch worked fine for me.

I make my own deodorant, shampoo, rinse, lotion and lip balm. They are easy and quick to make and work very well. I also make my own laundry and dishwasher detergent. They cost pennies and work as well or better than commercial.

Yep. We had a case here in Florida a few years ago where a teenage boy was obsessed with smelling good, so he used 1-2 cans of spray deoderant per day, covering all his body. It eventually killed him and his parents sued the deoderant manufacturer on the grounds that if there had been a warning that covering yourself with deoderant several times a day could be bad for you, he wouldn't have done it. Suuuuure. Now you know why they have all those strange warnings on products. Unfortunately, if they had to list warnngs against every way someone could misuse the product, the packaging would have to be the size of a refrigerator box. In the end, nobody is going to win but the lawyers.
