So what is the explanation you tell your kids for why Mickey talks at Townhall and nowhere else? Has anyone asked him or had a child ask him? What does he say? I'd love to take the kids to see him but don't want to ruin the magic for DS4.

He talks in the welcome show, the friendship faire and sort of in the parade. I think children, if they notice, more question the not talking. You can always answer he is saving his voice for the next show.

It's bc he is a magician of course! Mickey can only talk when he wears his magician costume, bc it's magical ;)

Good point about the shows. By nowhere else I really meant meet and greets though. My kids have met him and many of the other non-face characters so not talking is more what they're used to.

Well, he talked to so many kids that he is now hoarse, and has to save his voice for later!!

If you don't want to basically lie to your son, just tell him Mickey talks at Town Square Theater because he feels the most comfortable there. The "magical" set is just for Mickey to show off his magic tricks and "hidden" talents.

I venture to guess the vast majority of kids never even consider why he is the only one to talk. They most often take things at face value and don't analyze things with the cynicism that adults put on everything.

DGD had never asked. Same way she's never asked why Mickey is a 5' tall mouse

I agree with Angi. Kids have an amazing ability to suspend disbelief.

My kids asked. In fact, Talking Mickey was the one who ruined the magic lol. That's when they decided the characters were all, well, you know ;)

What did he say that ruined it?

Good suggestions everyone. I was thinking along the lines of saying that they have technology there to let him be understood but they don't have that everywhere. Technically true. But if they ask for details I'm going to have to either spin a yarn about mousetalk or I'm cooked. :rolleyes1

My kids are older, 13 and 14 our last trip, and when we met "talking Mickey" DD turned to me and said "He's creepy!" and I had to agree. LOL! I guess when you've grown up with a mute Mickey, it was a little unnerving to have him strike up a conversation!

But agree with others that explaining that he only talks at certain times to save his voice or when he is a magician, etc.
