why does everyone hate the nemo ride?

Everyone doesn't hate it. I personally think it's pretty and enjoyable. YMMV

I have mixed feelings about it. My daughter loved it when she was 3, and I have a feeling she'd love it again when we go at 5 next year. So I understand why it works. The technology is sort of clever, and there are some good scenes.

My issues are two-fold. First of all, it's in Future World in EPCOT. This dark ride would be great somewhere else, and the part with the actual fish is a very small part of it.

Second, we've moved so far from the original concepts for the pavilion. I'm not saying it should be exactly what it was, but it still feels like it's a lesser version. The original ride was short but gave you a lot of remarkable views of the marine life. This time, most of the windows are blocked by a dark ride.

At least it isn't as bad a drop-off as Imagination...

Just ride it and see for yourself. :) It's meh for me, but then again I don't think I'm the demographic they were aiming for. ;)

We love the ride. Great for kids. If you're just an adult with teenagers, you can skip it though... it's not a "must do" but its usually a walk-on, so if it's a hot day you should definitely do it.

I am in CA, and the memo ride in Disneyland is one billion times better. I skip the ride in FL because it would ruin it for my kids. That's how much cooler it is in CA.

Anyone who ever experienced the original Living Seas would have little good to say about Nemo. Kids and adults could enjoy it totally.
In my opinion and I'll keep it brief, the ride was turned into a cartoon. DH and I rode it once. I thought if I heard that Nemo, where are you Nemo? one more time I'd scream.
Now when we go, we go in through the exit and the gift shop and just do the aquarium part.
I realize kids need rides and maybe they thought there should be something for young kids in Epcot that they could relate to.
It's sort of like what they did to Figment. Ruined it.
If you like it, fine. I can guarantee you there are a lot of people who don't and it's okay for young kids. Period.
By the way, I love the seagulls outside.
;)

The first time we went on it, my husband and I were basically looking at each other laughing at how bad this ride is. Our kids loved it. I think it is really, really dumb and poorly executed. In fact, the first thing I did when I got back to the hotel room that night was look the ride up in the Unofficial Guide -- I was sure there would be people slamming on it, but I was shocked to find people are generally OK with it.

Before we moved to the east coast from California, we were DL vets, and really loved the Nemo version of the submarine ride. It was one of my kids' absolute favorites. While I realize the two rides are not identical, I believe the whole concept works better on the submarine. I just can't buy the concept as a traditional dark ride.

I do like the rest of the pavilion, and I did like the old, pre-Nemo pavilion better, but that ride is bad IMHO.

The ride itself is hardly a must do, and is obviously designed with kids in mind. If all you're going to do is ride the ride and then walk out of the building, it may not be worth it. But, if you are interested in getting off the ride and then touring the aquarium area, seeing the manatees and maybe the dolphins, why not use the ride as your entrance to the exhibit instead of just walking in the back door if the line for the ride isn't too long?

I don't hate the ride... but, I do hate the queue! Why did they make is to that you have to snake all of the way through it when the line is 5 minutes long?

My issue is that there are ways to make rides with no height req. and still make them have some thrill and fun to them. Look at PoTC, Maelstrom, Dumbo, Peter Pan. All are no height req. and yet still have some 'thrill' to them or excitement. Just sitting in a clam shell and moving on a straight platform through relatively boring scenes doesn't do it for me.

Agree to an adult but to a child the sitting in a clam shell and the scenes with Nemo popping in and out may be thrilling. The question is do kids like it and find it thrilling. I cant answer outside my children liked it. Every ride you listed I do agree is better (imo) than Nemo. That said imo Peter Pan is better than Maelstrom which is better than PoTC which is better than Dumbo.
My overall point is more we are bringing up a discussion about how good or bad a childs ride. That is what it is. Probably a better discussion would be which child ride are most enjoyable to adults.

Amen! We love the ride. Of course I have a 5yo and 2yo, but it's the main reason we HAD to go to Epcot this last short trip.

Anyway.. I never experienced the ride before Nemo was added. What was the ride like before?

The Living Seas was more like a voyage to a futuristic underwater "Seabase" and the ride portion took you through glass tubes (or large glass walls) through the aquarium (I guess it still does but you can't see the glass anymore). You just watched the live fish until you arrived at Seabase. That part, other than the addition of Turtle Talk, is still basically the same. They had some dive suits you could mess around with (claw hand things). In order to exit you had to use a "Hydrolator" to take you back to the surface since, of course, you had been at the bottom of the sea. ;)

We had set our expectations up to....Disney level. I mean you have an entire aquarium to work with, surely it can be better than it is.. :confused3 We stood in that twisty turny line with my parents on scooters...in the dark....twisting and turning all throughout the wait area. Once we were done, I was embarrassed I had dragged them through it.

Won't be doing it again. I hope they can make it a bit better in the future. Something a little more impressive than animation on glass fish tank walls.

We liked the ride last time we were there. There are definitely worse ones I can think of than Nemo.

Yeah, I mean, it's not THAT bad really, it's just that it is not as good as it used to be.

Sometimes I wonder if this doesn't color opinions on a lot of attractions. I mean, would Stitch be so hated if it had just been installed that way from the beginning and not as ExtraTERRORestrial?

Seems like people always hate on the new version of anything. Still, Nemo was a step down for the Seas. I do like Nemo at Submarine Voyage at DL. It has more projections into actual water (but no real fish). I think it works better as a refurb.

Possibly not, but "Would people like it if it were always mediocre?" isn't the best argument. :p

Haha! I know what you mean about the "Where's Nemo" over and over again. The first time we rode it, we did not really like it. Not hate, but just really underwhelmed. We had high hopes as we love Nemo. It just has absolutely nothing going on. In fact, when we got off of the new Little Mermaid ride at MK we both turned to each other and said, THAT is what Nemo should have been like.
