Why does every post result is scooter bashing?

Can we agree to stop with the scooter shaming??

Nice post, Lucian. Could have used a few tweaks here and there, but I get the overall thought.

I have used a scooter for several recent trips there, old bad knees and back. I have a new knee from about 6 months ago, will see how I do on next trip, hopefully no scooter. I can empathize. But, as said, certainly not every thread, but generally, in threads in which scooters are discussed, there will generally (not always) be a few bashes thrown in, maybe for good, or bad measure. Would be nice to not have those bashes in there, but such as it is.

Congratulations are your goal setting and your current successes. Best wishes to complete all your goals
and ambitions.

I betting on you that you will succeed. :wishgoal

Ah, this thread reminds me of a few years back when instead of complaining about the new FP+ system, it was about ECV's (scooters).

Great point! Why are we discussing scooters when Disney has DESTROYED WALT DISNEY WORLD AS WE KNOW IT????

;)

Good for you on such great weight loss, OP!

We traveled in the past with my FIL who is a below-the-knee amputee with a multitude of other orthopedic issues (his spine is more rodding than bone methinks) that make it impossible for him to walk through the parks, so he uses a scooter, and I can appreciate how it can be frustrating. While we were navigating Ft. Wilderness on our way to Hoop Dee Doo, he took a 5-minute break for DVT prevention, and I test drove it. Those things are hard to maneuver! I would be mowing people down. LOL

I always hated getting nasty looks from people when we were getting on the buses with him or at certain rides. It was embarrassing, like we were doing something wrong. All we were doing was having a vacation with my kids' grandfather whom they see less than once a year. (I haven't been here long enough to be insinuating anybody on these boards thinks like this or could be any of those nasty-look people, I'm just commiserating a bit with OP, assuming he is genuine.)

As for his first post being such a pot-stirring one, I read these boards as a non-member for many months before finally signing up. One can get a decent feel of the atmosphere without being a member, so I wouldn't call him a troll based on post count alone. I'm not sure it's the best way to introduce oneself, but benefit of the doubt is given from me since I tend to be sensitive at times and then overflow with passion on a subject, sometimes not very gracefully.

I hope you meet your weight loss goals, OP.
:dogdance::dogdance: :dogdance:

Congrats on your weight loss, and your continued battle back from depression. Sometimes when you are in that situation, you are already sensitive and so others criticism can make you feel even worse. You have to ignore others and what they think. Its an art, but it can be done-I do it every day. :)

Sounds like you might have been reading some of that and it just hit a button for you. It happens. Good luck and I hope you get in shape for your next trip! BTW, somewhere there's a losing weight for Mickey board. Its a great place to be :D

Were you recently on reddit or something? I've only seen a lot of scooter hate there. Don't think I've seen any here though...

But anyway, grats on your weight-loss!

I did edit my original post because I do think that maybe I was just reading post on here that were more hot button and resulted in what I was focused on. I also posted a picture of myself in the scooter because some are describing this as not being a truthful post. (Troll Post.. Whatever that means)

I see it on a lot of the different boards. DisDinning Redit Here... It's a lot of places.

It's the dis, and it's unfortunately always going to be a thing. It's like the birthday button not on your birthday debate on here.

I recently had to use a scooter at Disney for the first time due to a poorly timed hip injury, and after all of the hateful looks, people saying mean things under their breath about laziness and just other difficulty with simply maneuvering it through crowds, I have a lot more sympathy and respect for those in scooters! I think most people don't realize most people in scooters would gladly walk like everyone else if they could.

Hey Op, just wanted to put this out there since you updated your original post with a pic....you sir, are a good lookin' guy. Great smile! Keep up the good work.

@Jennasis Thank you!! I felt that people did make some valid points and maybe I did go a little overboard with the rant so I wanted to edit out a few things.

@Asc341 And everyone doesn't have to take your approach to how they choose to express themselves. You're way may work for you and be what you respond to but that doesn't mean it works for everyone else or is what others respond to. You don't get to choose they way I want to post something.

And you don't get to choose how others post about something.....seems to kind of defeat the purpose of your original post

I wasn't hyper sensitive at all. I don't recall getting any looks to my face. I didn't have any issues in the parks or the busses. My issue is just with the boards. The way people act on here would discourage someone who may need to use a scooter to go. Once there... When a lot of these thumb thugs are in someones face... They say nothing. I don't really think anyone choices clinical depression that results in being medicated. That was a pretty dumb thing to say. Non typical depression (which is what I have) results in weight gain. I'm not saying that some people don't need a trip to Disney, I'm saying that someone in a scooter, for whatever reason, may need it as much or more than you. It may be a motivation to change their life. There was plenty of people there that needed that tip more than me I'm sure. That wasn't my point.

Nope not a dumb thing to say, by your own admission working from home led to bad habits of not exercising and eating poorly this is at least partially the reason you were/are morbidly obese. I am glad you are working towards a goal of a healthier lifestyle. The right diet and regular exercise can also do a great amount towards improving depression.
I still don't see why someone being in a scooter means that in any way they need a trip more than someone who is not-again you have not idea what is going on with any other visitor, their health, their mental wellbeing or family situation.
I think the complaints about scooters are at times ignorant, and others perfectly valid complaints.

I'm not saying that some people don't need a trip to Disney, I'm saying that someone in a scooter, for whatever reason, may need it as much or more than you.

No one NEEDS a trip to Disney. there are those who may WANT one more than others( we are every 5 years goers and I am in a wheelchair) but you have no right to tell someone that their 'need'(WANT) is less valid than yours or anyone else's

you start off bashing ECVs and then spend the rest of your post defending /justifying your use of one.
