Why does DVC want to know your marital status?

As I stated in post #6, I am now adding my daughter to my deeds, and the New Owner Information sheet asks for: Name, Address, City, State, Zip, Telephone, Email, Marital Status with check box for married or single!
I want to put NA, but don't know if that will mess up completing the process. Member Administration phones are not being answered, I guess they are so swamped, and of course only they can answer.
That is what kicked all this off. I emailed them. Waiting for a response. I doubt they will even understand the question.

Along that lines, my husband is on the deed, but the reality is that I’m the one who spoke to DVC, did the presentations, got the paperwork, and filled it all out. My husband just signed. I sent it back listing me as primary, because I’m the one who handles all our finances and our DVC membership. When DVC set up our membership, they made him the primary contract owner and put him first on the deed. It’s a little thing, but a frustrating thing, that there an assumption the husband should be primary. Same with Mrs vs Ms (I’ve always used Ms as well).

It's the opposite for me. I'm the one that handles everything Disney/DVC, yet my wife is considered the primary contract owner, and all correspondence arrives in her name.

Marital Status with check box for married or single

It is a legal thing? In Florida any property purchased during marriage is a joint ownership. Where I am from its fairly similar as well.

Just signed a refinance on our house. Did everything under my information then at the end she was on the final contract to sign off as well.

Could be wrong never really thought about it though or tried not checking off that I am married. The titles thing you would think in personalized communication they would just update the system with whatever option you want.

Well that is good news! So when they created your account, it came as MS, or did they offer you a choice? Did you buy direct, so you were in the room with a closing agent?

I believe they used what I picked when I submitted a request for more information a couple of weeks ago. I am buying directly and have done everything remotely as I live in NC.

When did you join? Did they ask you that during deed signing? So they put MS on all your email and snail mail and all communications?
I really want no title, but if there must be one, MS, which I have been using since 1976. (Coincidentally the bicentennial, kind of my own declaration of independence, although it just now occurred to me that it was the bicentennial year! haha) I just find being defined by marital status so Victorian and demeaning.
2015 we closed on the first contract. But 2013 Disney had me listed as Ms for the Disney website so maybe it carried over not sure.

I messed up my response above, so am posting again.

Yes, I have been using Ms. since the 70's.
When I first bought DVC in 1995 they asked if I was married. I was. My husband was not there, not on the membership, it is/was just mine. They were fine with that, but listed me as MRS. I argued, disagreed with that, but went through with it.
I have tried a few times to get them to change it, and they can't or won't. I ask to just leave no title. I can change my address, but not that stupid MRS.
Now I am adding my daughter to my deeds, and the New Owner Information Sheet they send to us, and we complete and send back with the registered deeds, asks for each of us if we are married or single!
25 years later, and still ridiculous.
What difference does it make, other than them to give us a MRS or MISS title. They just won't leave the title field empty.
I am planning on putting NA. But that may mess things up.
It does not say MRS or MISS on the deeds. But they insist on using it on all communication with us. Why???

You aren't alone. On every property that I hold in partnership with my husband, I am listed first. This is because in my first marriage, my ex was put first on the deed, and when he moved out, the mortgage statements followed him - and I almost lost my house because the bank never reached me to let me know my payment had changed (due to escrow changes). Except DVC. He is first on the DVC deed because "that is the way it has to be." From a customer service standpoint, I think the biggest mistake a company can make is not addressing you as you would prefer to be addressed (once you have communicated that - obviously no one can read minds and some people like being Mrs. Donald Duck). So rant away.

I think it's so they know how to address you if/when you talk to them.
Not when they pick what they want to use to address you, which is what we are discussing. That is bad customer service, causing ill will. It is on snail mail, not when they talk with me. They use my first name when talking with me, the custom Walt initiated.

I wonder if they changed that more recently or if it depends on your guide. We first bought direct in 2017. I'm first on the DVC deed and I'm also the principal contact. I think our guide asked us who should be principal. DH enjoys our DVC, but I'm the one who did all the research before buying and does all the planning, so it made more sense for me to be the principal contact. I don't recall any pushback or issues doing it that way.

DVC replied to my email. They said " When booking your Disney Vacation Club Resort stays it is no longer required to add a title. " But I tried booking in 2020 and 2021, and both times it required a title.
When I go into My DVC, My Profile, Contact Information, Your Name great big MRS. I told them about that, again requesting everywhere my name appears to be no title, or MS if they insist on a title.

Are you listed as MRS or what title in your DVC profile, under My DVC, My Profile, what if anything precedes your name.?

I don’t know if this addresses the rant, but there is a thing in Florida Law called Tenants By The Entirety which is available to married couples. It offers certain benefits, so I am guessing that Disney seeks to get you those benefits by default. I am not a lawyer so see this link.

Having said that, I am sympathetic to your desire to be addressed as you wish.

I'm looking at my VGC deed, which I bought in January by resale, it reads:

For a valuable consideration, receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, x and x, wife and husband as community property with right of survivor ship hereby grants to Debra x, a single woman......

My townhouse deed in PA is setup the same way.

My BWV deed from 1999 is not setup that way.

Looks like it's Mrs. in my profile. Honestly I'm not sure if I selected it or how they chose it, but personally it doesn't bother me so I'm not going to look into it. I hope they can help you with changing yours though!

Unicorn! 🤣

I don’t have DVC, but own another timeshare and have similar issues.

They continually make my husband primary even though I am the one that has done everything and handles all the bookings. I received this timeshare from my dad as a gift and he put my name first then my husbands, so it likes they switched it just because he is the male.

One time they wouldn’t even allow me to check in without him.

It’s pretty annoying!
