Why does Disneystore.com insist on changing sale prices?

Has anyone else noticed that disneystore.com continually changes their sale prices? This is very irritating to me. I saw the great price on kid's pj's and was prepared to buy a couple pair at $4.49, but when I went back today with my credit card in hand, the price had gone up to $7.49. Why do they continually alienate their customers like that? I'm not interested in playing games when shopping. Sorry for venting. I'm just frustrated cuz I can't spend my money now!!

It is called marketing in a capitalist society, dear...

I very often see items on sale at the stores at far lower prices than on the Internet. More people access the Internet while the stores have to empty space, I suppose. They also make a little more on postage and shipping, as opposed to you walking out with your item.

Would help if you send them an e-mail directly, though. here everyone gripes along but it isn't until they have a complaint on record that you can see changes ;)

Right before Xmas, there were low sale prices on ornaments, etc. Then poof, after Xmas for the supposed Semi Annual sale, the prices went up (even though they were still less than the original prices). Sometimes I wonder if Disney deliberately prices items too high, then offers a small % off, which people grab, not realizing the items are still overpriced. When they know people will be looking for deals, they reraise the prices. I have learned to buy things as soon as I see them on sale, even at the store. If I could live without the item, I wait to see if it goes down more. I would contact them as their 75% off winter clearance is still on. If they say no, the pjs at the DS are 50%. You can save more with your DC card, and not have to pay for shipping. Good Luck-let us know what happens.

Supermarkets have done it for years! I think many people have become acustomed to Disney calling a permanent price reduction a 'sale', but the marketing strategy is now "let's put this on sale for a few days and see if they'll bite".

BTW, the stores, Catalog and Online-while all called Disney Store, are actually three separate entities. However, the stores will take any returns from the catalog or online, so don't pay shipping to return stuff you don't want!

I sent them an e-mail asking why they do that and they just sent me a standard, "Thanks for sending your comments" reply. Oh well, I will just do without the pj's. My nearest Disney Store is 500 miles away so that doesn't help. From now on I will make more of an effort to purchase those great deals right away!

I wonder sometimes if it doesn't have to do w/ free shipping codes etc. I had two differant catologues in my hand at one time, one had the free shipping code and the other didn't. Now I'm not sure if I had called the free shipping code would've expired but the items were the same but the prices were differant. Kim

If you wait a day or two and pop back into the website, you'll probably see them back at the $4.49 or whatever they were. Its like the airlines, one day a fare is one thing, 24 hours later the same fare/flight is up by $60. Sometimes I believe it is all in when you are surfing around what you can come across.

I have to add my two cents here, because last summer I really went back and forth with the online customer service people. They like to keep reminding us that the store, catalog, and online are all SEPARATE from each other - as far as the specials go.

I argued THREE times that advertising a special in the catalog THAT HAS THE WEBSITE ADDRESS ON THE SAME PAGE (are you sensing my frustrations here?? ) should mean that the special is available whether you call up the catalog or try to buy online. My specific issue was with pjs (!). The catalog showed *online only* patterns and offered some sort of buy two, get something off, offer, BUT the discount was not offered ONLINE!! Sounds like false advertising to me!! I finally did get my % off (after the 3 emails). I basically told them that I was sick of the "standardized" reply, but I still LOVE Disney!

I mean, come on, how can you write with a legitimate question and get back a "thanks for writing" answer? How about coordinating the three "entities" or at least making a effort to please US CUSTOMERS instead of frustrating us? On a happier note, at least THIS time I managed to get the good deal on the $4.04 (DC) pjs for DS. They came today. :D I hope that you have some luck there, Cameo!!

Yes, very odd how they run it separate.
I looked at sale items on-line last night. I wanted to take my 10% off, plus get the free shipping (from the back of the DS catalog). COuldn't do it.
So, I called the 800#. The items were cheaper (and one half as cheap) on-line than in the catalog. The CM even asked me, "What page are you seeing this on?" ;) I told her.
She changed the prices the items were coming up with to match the disneystore.com pricing. Plus I got my 10% and free shipping. :)
At least I am assuming. ;) You never know with Disney, as most of us know from experience. ;) :jester:

Wow, that's great that you managed to get all three discounts - online price, DC, and free shipping to boot! I prefer shopping online instead of using the phone, but calling might have saved me the shipping cost. Still a great pj deal, regardless. I just wish that they were more consistent!:)

I agree that sometimes their email system is not the best. I sent an email around the "holiday" debacle basically telling them I was not too thrilled with them and would have to think twice about ordering online again.

Their response: thanks for your comments and we hope to see you again on our site!

I have to admit -- until the other night whenI placed the order I didn't know there were two separate pricings between the on-line store and the paper catalog. I just *assumed* the pricing was the same. (Silly me. ;) )

Of course you're not silly - any normal person that shops online I THINK would expect that CATALOG and ONLINE prices would be the same! That's what makes the Disney problem so ANNOYING!! I understand that a REAL store would be different, but then that was never the issue here.

My problem is that I receive MANY catalogues, but I shop online -and I have not found this discrepancy - in fact, I pointed out to Disney that hanna Andersson (children's clothes) always has the same prices for catalog and online, and that is simply what I EXPECTED from DISNEY as well. And yes, I expect that online might have some extra special "specials" but then I wouldn't CALL up for those;) and AGAIN, why advertise the WEBSITE in the catalog if they are two different entities??
