Why does Disney only put interier hallways in Deluxes?

Maybe I'm the only one, but I find staying at a hotel with exterier hallways extremely untasteful. I know it's probably not as big an "issue" at Disney as other places, but I find hotels with interier hallways are much safer.

Is this an "issue" for anyone else when choosing a hotel? Just seems like since Disney has sssoooo many hotels, they could have a "variety" (a/k/a, some mods/values with interier hallways). Are hotels with exterier hallways cheaper to operate?

I don't think cost of operation only factor, but cost of building also would be a large factor......I agree interier hallways do seem safer not sure about statistics.

It is almost common knowledge that people prefer interior corridor hotels, perhaps Disney uses this to make the deluxes that much more appealing and people are willing to pay more for them. Just another way to reap more money from people.

I will not stay anywhere with exterior walkways except for WDW. Even though the moderates have exterior walkways I feel safe there. I guess its the way they are layed out, it doesn't feel like a motel more like a resort. Tried the All Stars and just was not comfortable there.

It is Disney's way of creating a tiered system of cost and is sort of a class system. In general interior corridors are more desireable for saftey and security as well as allowing for balconies. I personally think they are louder though as sounds of slamming doors and voices echo down the halls.
In creating this system Disney builds in more desirable amenities into the more expensive resorts though cuts there own nose off because the value resorts can't have a full service restaurant. I think they are loosing out on tons of money by not having a large full service coffee shop at the All Star and Pop Century resorts.

Why can't they have a full service resturant at the values?

I always thought it was their own choice. I would think a larger version of the "Trails End" would do a fab business at the Values.

Theu could have a full service restaurant at the Value resorts but then that would add an amenity that is only at the Moderates and Deluxe and that would mess with their tiered system. :)

Interior halls are safer? Oh, oh-for years, I've been staying at Moderates solo thinking that exterior halls were a little safer. I figured that no one would wait to attack me outside my room if outside my room was open to the world. Also, I figured that if I screamed outside my door with exterior hallways, more people would hear me. Oh, well-it's good now to find out that interior hallways are safer-we just joined DVC last year and so now I stay at BCV (with interior hallways) solo. But I still wonder-aren't exterior hallways almost as safe?

My guess is since the resorts are a theme of existing resorts and locations. The WL in the NW would have enclosed hallways to protect from the elements. My experience in the Bahamas is outside hallways, except for the Casinos.

On the safty issue I think enclsed hallways would be safer. The off site Motels had a problem a few years back of thugs kicking in the doors and robbing tourists that had open hallways. Quick get away the reason I heard. I don't think that would be an issue with onsite.

Maybe the interior hallways would cost more ... carpeting, air conditioning in the summer ... I dunno :p I prefer interior hallways myself too.

It costs alot more money to build a hotel with interior hallways and takes up alot more room.I still think they could put a full service restaurant of some sort at the values.I don't think it would hurt the food courts.People who want to sit down to a meal don't use the food courts they just go to another restaurant.

I personally enjoy the exterior entry of the moderates at WDW. To open your door to the lush greenery at the CBR is much more enjoyable than opening to a row of more doors at AKL. I do not stay at motels with exterior doors in the "real world" because of the safety issues, but at WDW it definitely enriches my experience because I love the outdoors and I feel totally safe there.

Yeah, AKL .. what a bummer, all those zulu shields & african drum sconces, huge picture windows with giraffes and zebras to watch, african art and antiques... who would want to see that? sheesh.. oh and that awful air conditioning

Bring on that CBR foilage :p

I stay at the moderates often, but I always worry about housekeeping when I stay there. Housekeeping (or anyone doing anything to the room) shut the door to the room while they're cleaning it when the room has an exterior hallway. In an interior hallway room, the door is left open. I think a person who wanted to take something has a better chance when the door is shut. Yep, I had something taken from my suitcase at ASMo, I know it was my fault for leaving jewelry in my suitcase, but the person who took it had to dig in to a suitcase and then in to a makeup case and then in to a zippered pouch inside. If the door had been open, in all likelihood they wouldn't have taken the chance of digging in to my suitcase.

Sure you see greenery when your outside but what about your view from the balcony (oh! that right no balconies) I would love to have the veiw from AKL balcony (Giraffes, gazelles zebra)
I also love the value and moderates but you can't compare a view from a doorway to AKL with the balconies.

You are terrible! LOL! J/K. I do want to say though that I hate the decor of AKL and would much rather stay at CBR. I just do not get into all that dark African art and think the whole place is ugly. I am into foilage and flowers too and would prefer that over red clay and roaming animals. To be honest I prefer the Poly over CBR, and who wouldn't, but I would chose the CBR over AKL any day. Luckily there are different resorts for all likes!

 I know I am terrible lol

If the poster had compared CBR to the doors/hallways at Beach Club I would have been 100% in agreement.

BC hallways are atrocious, plain, long boring halls with no windows...

But I feel AKL although a large resort with long "trails" make an effort to make these areas interesting.

Different strokes for different folks

I live in south FL in a condo with exterior walkways. I've been here for nine years and so far no one has tried to break in, grab me, or kick in my door. I guess I've just been lucky. My mom lives in a house and yes, her front door opens to the OUTSIDE. Go figure.

You know, I didn't say that I didn't like AKL or that I preferred CBR over AKL. I stayed at AKL a few weeks ago for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoy CBR as well. They are different, and to me, they are both beautiful. I just said that I like the exterior walkways at CBR better than the interior ones at AKL. But hey, that's just me.
Never stayed at the Beach Club. AKL was just the first one that popped in to my head.
