Why does anyone go to DTD?

My view of Downtown Disney has changed quite a bit since the Pirate posted this. I still enjoy the Art of Disney and the Lego sculptures but I agree that the items in the stores have become very generic. It's too bad because DD was really unique and interesting at one time.

yeah-- back when pleasure island was open.

I can't speak for the one at WDW, but I go to the DLR one if I've travelled down there for work but don't want to spend the $$$ on a full-day pass that I can only use from 5pm - park close (to have some fun after work is over). I go to DTD to get my dose of Disney and the admission is free! (it's just the food and souvenirs that get you! ;) ) My guess is others might do the same at the World.

Or if they had a favorite restaurant or shop that wasn't offered somewhere else on property, they could enjoy that.

that sounds great-- unless my choices are bud bud light miller miller light coors coors light light light, and light with water. when is happy hour?

Started at 4, and believe it went to 10. I was having Yuengling Lager. I think they also had Sam Adams Lager on the domestics, as well as the usual suspects you mentioned. Considering the Yuengling was $6.50 a can at the POR food court I was giddy as a schoolgirl.

We to for Raglan Road. In the past, we also went for the Christmas store, but I was really really disappointed this year (we were there in early September) with the variety and quality of merchandise, so that no longer is a must-do for me like it has been in the past...

i go for one reason and one reason only:

wolfgang pucks express

that's it. even my favorite store all time...days of christmas...is half empty and only stocked with the absolute cheapest, unimaginative, ugliest chinese crap whose only merit is they can probably make 10,000 of them per minute.

Much better off at Hallmark

I was so disappointed in days of Christmas this trip. For our visits in 2009, 2011, and 2012 I would pick out ornaments and have them personalized for our anniversaries, another one for our first year in our new home and more for our dogs' first Christmases with us, etc. They used to have a wide selection of ornaments that had plenty of room to personalize. Now they have one or two ornaments with enough room for personalization and they were not made well at all. It really made me sad to see the merchandise there this last visit because I love Christmas and I love Disney Christmas stuff. I noticed they even took the desks the personalize-ers would sit at to do their work off the sales floor. I guess they weren't making enough profit on the personalization which makes me chuckle because it was $3 per word and a date spelled out (ex October 5, 2013) was $9.

Now my ONLY reason to visit DTD is Raglan Road.
