Why does anyone go to DTD?

Well, personally, I've never liked DTD until recently. My wife and I had 4 or 5 visits a piece to Disney in our lifetimes, but have been to Disney 4 times in the past 5 years since we've been together. We went once with my family, one when we got engaged, again for our honeymoon, and again a month ago for her birthday. We went to DTD for the first time on our honeymoon. I thought it was okay, but she's the shopper and she LOVED it. We also both really enjoy Planet Hollywood.

However, this last time we went, we enjoyed it much more. Another couple went with us, and they were staying off park. They couldn't quite afford the kind of vacation we were having (staying in a resort with 7 day hoppers), and only had tickets for a few days. Since it was also my wife's 21st birthday, we all wanted to get a few drinks. That's where DTD was really for us. We could go there without having to worry about paying admission, and just walk around and have a night of "bar hopping" (if you can call it that) Disney style.

AK closes too early for that, Epcot generally isn't open all that long either, but it also costs admission and is quite the walk.

So, I'd say for someone that might not have tickets all week and just want to have a night out having a few drinks, DTD is totally ideal.

glad you enjoyed it, but you would probably feel differently if you had gone while pleasure island was open. There is nothing for me at DTD anymore. It also seems that the renovation is not going to include clubs.

We go to Dt Disney to look thru shops and may pick up something or not. Love to listen to the variety of live music on weekend. For me i use to love to visit Fuego's but hear it will be closing end of Sept. Been going there since it opened. Just sitting out side with a good cigar and drink and people watching can be lots of fun. Have meet a lot of interesting people over the years. Eating at House of Blues and Earl Of Sandwich is a must. Movie fill a rainy day.

We go for the 6:00 La Nouba show. Then spend some time browsing the shops and letting the kids spend some money on gifts, shirts and trinkets. A stop at Ridemakerz so the kids can create an RC car. On a nice night it's a pleasant evening.

I do not understand the appeal of this place, especially since the demise of PI. But what is it that appeals to anyone that they would actually have to travel to get to?

I understand DTD at DL and City Walk at Universal as they're both right there (and both great, IMO), but DTD at WDW is just a boatload of the same ole, same ole crappola. What is the appeal and how is Disney maintaining the crowds?

I agree it's kinda bad. Expensive food that isn't all that good. The point of it though is fun for the kids. My son has a blast and loves the place. It's worth the extra $$.

Ever wanted to try the famous roasted chicken at Bongos Cuban Café? Shrimp and grits at House of Blues? Milk-braised pork shoulder with garlic smashed potatoes at Portobello?

Now you’ve got a good excuse to try them all during “Downtown Disney Foodtopia” October 1-31, when the area becomes a food lover’s paradise with bargain bites from some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes. Seven restaurants are rolling out generous 3-course dinners for $30, with a $60 option at Fulton’s Crab House (tax and gratuity extra). The seven include Bongos Cuban Café, House of Blues, Paradiso 37, Planet Hollywood, Portobello, Splitsville Luxury Lanes and Wolfgang Puck Café.

You can head to Foodtopia any day of the week between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. – but you have to make your reservation and payment by calling 407-WDW-DINE beginning September 28 and at least 48 hours in advance (and reservations are limited). Cannot be combined with other promotions.
Want to make it a dinner-and-a-show night? If you make a Foodtopia dining reservation, you can save on tickets to Cirque du Soleil “La Nouba” with a 20 percent discount for everyone in your party.

Such a bargain – three full courses and a non-alcoholic beverage. For instance, at Wolfgang Puck Café, you can start with garlic and white bean hummus, a Caesar salad or butternut squash soup. Entrees include pesto chicken, crispy pork loin or spaghetti Bolognese. Desserts are key lime pie, carrot cake or a brownie sundae. Paradiso 37 is offering blackened mahi sliders, a hearty beef burrito or chicken enchiladas paired with a starter and dessert. At Planet Hollywood their Celebrity BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger is on tap for an entrée, or lasagna or their gargantuan Southwest Salad. These aren’t pared-down courses. Splitsville lets you choose from eight appetizers and 10 entrées, with a brownie and ice cream for dessert.

And that $60 menu at Fulton’s Crab House? It includes either shrimp cocktail, steamed clams and mussels or jumbo lump crab cake to start; a whole Rhode Island lobster, cioppino or filet mignon for an entrée, and a Tollhouse Cookie sundae, key lime pie or root beer float for dessert. Extravagant dining for a reasonable price.
Looking forward to Disney Springs. :thumbsup2

I think the big attraction of DTD is that you can hang out there all day and not spend much money.

For us, it's just a nice *break* from the parks now and again. More or less, it's just something different to do.

This is where I do all my souvinear shopping. My son loves the Lego store and goofys candy shop. I love the restaurants. We usually go there on the night we go to animal kingdom because the park closes early. We eat at the resort or dtd then shopping. I do miss pi very much especially the neon armidillo.

I love downtown Disney. We like to go and shop at World Of Disney, check out all the new little shops and of course Disney Quest.

I love going to DTD in the early morning wandering through the Store with little of the crowds. Sometimes going to a theme park is just not doable.

PI is gone sadly. I believe that it ended when they took the gates down and let anyone go through. It felt so much more like a large club.

Ah well and the sadness of losing the Adventurer's club.

I find lots to do at DTD. Love Raglan Road and Earl of Sandwich. I just think that this is a case of different strokes for different folks.

Spent 12 days at WDW earlier this month, and a total of 1 hour at DTD. I had several ADR's at DTD restaurants, but changed them for other places on property. Since I did not do LaNouba this time around, I had no other reason to go. WOD has become nothing but a giant collection of everything you can buy everywhere else on property. The only thing I missed-out on because I spent that hour at DTD, was an hour I could have spent somewhere else.

But on the bright side, I did get a front row parking spot right behind WOD.

We love DTD. Love playing our fave games all day at DisneyQuest then a yummy fun dinner at Trex! Lego store, shopping, vinylmations...oh and the snacks!!! Love!

I've never been to DisneyQuest or to LaNouba, yet I still LOVE Downtown Disney! I love browsing through the shops and seeing what's available. The shops are so well put together and themed that being in some of them, to me, is actually an interesting experience.

I do however miss Pleasure Island, which is why I love City Walk over at Universal. It would be nice to have something like Pleasure Island again over at the World.

I go to DTD about once a year to remind myself that I don't need to waste my vacation time going to DTD.

i go for one reason and one reason only:

wolfgang pucks express

that's it. even my favorite store all time...days of christmas...is half empty and only stocked with the absolute cheapest, unimaginative, ugliest chinese crap whose only merit is they can probably make 10,000 of them per minute.

Much better off at Hallmark

I guess I actually like the art store. It is usually not too full and we can spend some time browsing in peace. I used to like sushi at WP's, but I have found a place near my home that is so good and economical that i don't get sushi on vacation any more.

that maybe my one exception as well...the Trend-D store is tolerable as well.

World of Disney is the worst by far. what crap.
And they are supposedly doubling it? For what. The wont tolerate variation and won't pay for quality. I've always said that if they increased the quality and variety id pay 2-3 times the price to get things there...
but they never will...so they get a big goose egg from me.
