I work in a volatile industry. In 2014, took a 40% pay cut. Have seen 10% back (including a 2.5% increase this year). I have 25 years experience in my position, highly coveted and hard earned professional certifications, and was transferred away from daughters and grandkids three years ago. Drive 60 minutes, one way, to work. Frequent after hours, weekends, etc. but salaried so nothing extra there. Used to love the business because there was a lot of fun but a new manager (read tyrant) with much less experience and a "buck passer" as an extra bonus make it a challenge. Family business and original owners have stepped back as they have aged with son now in charge. Would LOVE a change but have the trifecta of unemployability, white, male, 60. Even with a skillset that translates to any industry that is disappointing.
But I love my wife and family and at the end of the day (lifetime), what really counts is that relationship and the love we have for each other and, yes, even those I have issues with on the work front.
Can also listen to Pete W. weekly, so there is that! Always refreshing to hear Dis!
