Why do you or would split your vacation between WDW resorts.

I hadn't thought of it until reading the board. Is it to try different resorts or to be nearer certain parks? To reduce cost by staying at different types of resorts Del/Mod or Mod/Val?

If you do it, do you have to check in twice? Does Disney transport your baggage?

DS LOVES the Wilderness Lodge - we stayed there in 01 (bought into DVC after that trip) and stayed there this past Oct
DS wants to return for part of our Aug vacation this yr so we'll stay there for 8nights before trying something new
We've never stayed at an EpCot resort and have that booked for 6nights after the VWL

We like to split our stay so we can try out new resorts. We split our honeymoon between GF/Poly/WL and LOVED all three. Moving was so easy...bell services took care if it for us on both ends. We did have to check in at all resorts but that was simple too. This trip we are splitting between POFQ and Saratoga Springs....we're interested in DVC and want to stay at one of the resorts to see if we like it. Moving is easy for us right now because we don't have kids yet...I suspect we will be less inclined to move around once we have a family....hope this helps :)

We've done it due to availability of resort rooms, also because winter weather has forced us to come in early and there is no availablility at our primary destination. We're not ones to resort hop, just takes too much away from a day. WDW resorts do transfer luggage between resorts and we have had no problem with that.

We split so we're at an Epcot resort half the time and Disney the other half. then plan PS'sss accordingly.

It's also just fun the change resorts. Feels like you're starting your vacation all over again. Of course we only do this if we're staying for a good length of time. this year it's 4 days at BWI and 4 days at Contemporary :cool1: :cool1:

I get bored if I stay more than 3 or 4 days at the same resort! We are staying at Disney for 8 nigths... so this means 5 nights at POP and 3 nights at POFQ. I think I might even want to do Poly or AKL or WL and POP and POFQ!

You check in each time you stay at a different resort. Disney will move the bags for you. I just take the cab, much easier and faster. There's a few times when our room is ready right away and it is good to have your bags already with you to go to your new room rather than waiting for someone to send the bags to you and if you needed something from that bag, you can't get to it.

Good question. I have wondered that myself.

I am never awake in my room enough for it to make much of a difference.

We split our stays for a few different reasons. We drive from NY so we arrive around 10pm on our first night. So, that night we always stay at a value or mod, whichever I can get a discount on. Then we'll check into a resort(usually BWV)we are DVC members. We'll stay there for 5 week nights(lower points if you don't do the weekends at DVC) We love the Epcot area for when we go to the parks. Then we go off to another resort, last time was WL, to just enjoy that resort and relax, no parks. We do that for 3 days. This time we'll do POP for one night, BWV for 5 nights , and SSR for 2 nights. We have 2 kids, 7yo and 2yo and it really is no biggy to move with them. Disney will transfer your luggage and yes you do have to check in again. We have our own car so we transfer our own stuff. I just really like to go to 2 resorts because BW is our favorite, yet I like to try something new.

We love it because it's like having two different vacations! The first 3 nights we stay at a Magic Kingdom resort and usually only go to MK and AK. The last 4 nights we are at an EPCOT resort and we go to EPCOT, MGM, DTD & usually a water park.

Splitting your stay isn't for everyone but we really like it. When it comes time to plan a trip it's hard to decided where to stay as we have a lot of favorite resorts. Splitting helps us stay at more resorts. We also spend a lot of time at the resorts so the location is important to us.

Our 1st trip to WDW we took my grandmother, and I split the resorts for location and convenience...so I could impress everyone with all the bells and whistles I was gonna pack into the trip.

By staying at the GF the first few days, we could take a cute little boat to MK, monorail to Poly for the Luau, watch Electric water pageant from the GF dock, and sit outside our rooms to watch the MK fireworks in the evenings. (((hop))) The second leg of the trip, staying at the Yacht Club, it was very quick to get to the Christmas tour, and DH who loves water parks could play in Stormalong Bay while we took the tour, (yup, it was in the hot, humid 90's at WDW in Dec. 2000), plus-with all the dining options and friendship launches at YC/BC/BW it made it a lot easier for us to keep the walking to a level amenable to a lady in her late 70s.

2nd trip, I was offered a "manager's special" while I was trying to extend my reservation at CBR, and ended up extending it over to AKL. Hey, hey!

After that, we decided to *always* resort hop, but, unfortunately the only other trips we managed were just quick, 4-day weekends, so it was more efficient to stay in one place. (even...offsite! gasp :sad2: )

And really, its no trouble at all to jump from resort to resort as long as you don't have a tonnage of packing. Bell services will pick up your bags from your room, send it to the next resort. You can just head out for b'fast, hit some attractions, and just swing by your new resort whenever you feel like taking some down time and check in.

So I'd say, resort hop for the fun of it. Because all the resorts are cool, and each has its own personality and its own intrinsic perks.

I am also a DVC member and use the weekend to try the other WDW resorts plus of course my long time favorite POR.

Now that I stayed at Pop Century it is really hard not to go back to it for the weekends....

but I still need to try AKL, CSR, POFQ, ASMo, ASSport then would have stayed at all the current WDW resorts.

however when you find a good value and Pop century is a very good value - it is hard to try other more expensive resorts even for just 2 days....

Oh I love my DVC resorts - they are all great.

For me, it's a desire to try out and see other resorts. I'd love to stay at ALL of them at some point. But my favorite resort is the Beach Club, and if I can't stay there, then the Boardwalk, because of the location, and because I love Jellyrolls at the Boardwalk. So I like to do a few days at a different resort and experience that one, then spend the rest of the time at BC or BW. Plus, BC fills up quickly, so sometimes I have to take a different resort for a few days if I'm planning a trip for the near future instead of further out.

One of my vacation goals is to enjoy as many Disney resorts as I can possibly afford. As such most of my vacations have been a combination of moving around to experience what I can at each location. Each resort has a different feel which to me adds to the fun of a vacation. Two years ago I moved 3 times over a 10 day period with largest amount of time spent at PORS. Last year we moved twice, CSR and BWV. This year I'm not sure exactly where I'll be but one place will be CSR again and at least one other place for 2 or 3 days. As stated above also, staying at various places does keep the cost down because I simply don't have the funds to fork over to stay at the Poly ($300+ a night) for 3 to 7 days.

Lastly, it is very easy to relocate to a different hotel as bell services will handle the transferring of luggage. There is a second checkin but your generally talking about 20 to 30 minutes of your time at most.

This is our first family trip to the World. We will have 10 nights, and we are doing a YC/CR split. DH has wanted to stay at CR since he was a child. I like the look of the YC, plus I think the kids will like SAB. Why decide between the two? Stay at both! I don't think I'd do a split for a shorter trip, however.

Because it was $600 cheaper for us to split our stay between AKL and Poly versus staying at Poly the whole time! :flower:

We have done it many ways such as Value mod value DVC value DVC etc just pick where you would like to be close to or the theme you would like to check out and book on that premise.

Since we visit WDW often and live only 2hours away, we usually only go for 2 nights / 3 days at a time. One time we spent one night at BCV and one night at AKL. It was great! We were able to experience SAB and stay at our favorite resort, AKL. This next trip we are spending 2 nights at SSR and 2 night at the Poly. This is our longest trip this year and I could not justify spending so much $$$$ at the Poly. If we only took 1 or 2 trips a year then okay, but this will be our 9th trip to Disney within a period of one year:Pinkbounc ....and we still have 1 more planned for August before our passes expire! Let's just say I keep pestering DH to get a job transfer back to Orlando! Can you tell I am a Disney nut
