Why do you need a key for entry to the Bay Cove Pool?

Just wondering if the BLT is always locked down to keep everyone out except for the guests staying there, then why would you need a key to access the pool area?

It is locked at all entry points and requires a key card to enter. Anyone can walk to the pool area but only guests staying at Bay Lake can use their room cards to enter.

I thought I had heard that only guests staying at BLT could actually enter the BLT resort thru the lobby or enter using the skywalk and that even guests staying at the CR could not enter BLT and could not walk up to the pool area. Am I wrong on that?

At Kidani, you also need a key card to enter the pool area (in theory anyway). But I found that the gate was partially open each time that I used the pool and I never had to use my key.

There's a side walkway from the BLT courtyard that I believe connects to the CR pool area, plus the front door/sky bridge access isn't failsafe - this adds an additional layer to keep the pool from overcrowding.

We were told bottom line: "If you ain't stayin', you ain't playin'." ;)

We just got back and there is a walkway on the south (contemporary) side that is open to anyone. We had the last room on the lake side, first floor, and saw many people walking over just to get a look at BLT. You do need your room key to get into the pool as well as into the building.

Correct, BLT/CR Pools, AKV/AK Pools and SAB (including quiet pool) are restricted to only those staying at the resort they are attached to.

This is not entirely correct according to latest Disney File's Mag (Summer 2009 - page 16) citing pool hopping rules & restrictions : Contemporary Resort's pool is NOT included as restricted from pool hopping, just BLT's pool.

Do Contemporary guests have access to the BLT pool area? And vice versa?

BLT guests have access to Contemporary pools but Contemporary guests do not have access to the BLT pool. So vice, no versa. ;)

You also need to add the leisure pools at YC/BC as well. No hopping to those either.

I find this just a bit odd as well. At AKV, all guests at Jambo-whether they are DVC or not- can use the Kidani pool.

But with regards to the keycard for entry, although there is no hopping to the pools at AKV, no key card is needed for the Jambo pool but there is a keyt needed at Kidani. But, it was my experience that you really didn't need a card at Kidani because the gate was always partially open.

What system do they use at SAB to keep pool-hoppers out of the pool?

They use wrist-bands. I'm sure some people get by, but it's pretty effective. But that means there is always a CM on duty to check cards and hand out wrist bands.

Wristbands? I didn't know that. Thanks.

Its kinda strange that for each DVC resort that does not allow pool hopping, there are different methods and levels of enforcement. Wristbands at SAB-only Y/BC and BCV guests allowed in, Keycard needed at BLT-No CR guests allowed in but BLT guests can use the CR pool. At AKV, No keycard and no wristband at Jambo, Keycard needed at Kidani but no wristband-Jambo resort guests allowed at Kidani and Kidani guest allowed at Jambo. If there is any logic at work with this system, it is lost on me. :confused3

I think that because SAB is so vast, it would be really hard to fence it all in and require key cards. So, guests with (or without) wristbands are easy to spot.

It seems the new defacto standard is key card entry.

The pool at BLT is just not that big. I don't think it could handle an influx of visitors from any other DVC resort, let alone people from the Contemporary! And really, as pretty as it may look from above, there really isn't anything "special" about it like SAB.

Also, it is in the blazing sun all day long, with just a few umbrellas to huddle under for shade! We waited till after the sun went down to use it cause it was just way too hot otherwise.

If you look at this picture you can see the scale. Not very big. There is a zero entry on the left side, some steps on the right. The depth is kinda strange because of the shape of the pool. There isn't a deep end/shallow end. It varies.

There is one hot tub and one play area that just has a few water spouts in it. Nothing that I would travel to to use!
