Why do you live where you live?

Because I was born here. I'm not here by choice, but because I have no choice. Once we had a family of our own we were stuck. I hate the cold, the snow and the high cost of living. The town we live in is because it is the only place we could afford in order to have a reasonable commute to work.

I need heat, sun, long days and a lower cost of living.

I still live in the state / area because of my parents - I'm an only child and very close to both of them. This has in turn made my DS very close to them and that's more important that the negatives.

Years and years from now my goal is to retire to a warm beach community ;)

I live in Texas because my Dad settled down here after leaving the service. I live in north Texas because DH found a job he couldn't refuse up here but I'd rather be back in the Houston area.

I see no reason to ever leave Texas but if I did I would hope to move to Arkansas or maybe Lousiana. Or maybe San Diego if I won the lottery.

I was born and raised in the San Antonio and hill country areas of Texas. Loved it and would love to move back! Currently we are in southern Texas - just south of Houston. We live here because my dh has a job that we can not refuse - they have been very good to us. I would love to move a little more north(we are too close to the gulf), but I don't see that happening. On the bright side, we are close enough to all the major cities - Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Chrisiti, and even Dallas- to enjoy the big city life when we need more than our small town. Our families are also scattered throughout Texas so with a little driving we are able to see them too.

We live here because this is where we grew up, went to college, etc.

We're trying to save up some money and MOVE. We want to be out West. Who know's when that'll happen though..

Because when I applied for my job I said I was willing to move anywhere. So they sent me to a small island in the Caribbean.

I've lived in this area my entire life.

My parents live here.

I like my job.

Only a few hours away from the in-laws.

I get to have 4 seasons, yet mostly they are mild. Severe weather is very limited.

The size of the area is just right for us. No big cities, and not the boondocks, either.

I don't want to move my kids to a different school district.

I spent 7 years in Coopersburg, and my DD25 still lives there. I know exactly what you mean. We may move back there when DH retires from the military.

Both DH and I were born and raised in the state, though on opposite sides. :)

Neither one of us can imagine living anywhere else. :lovestruc

I did move around when I was young and single, but I came back. DH is from Michigan and would love to live up North, but his mother and siblings are here. I live an hour away from my family and 45 minutes away from DH's. Twice DH has been offered jobs that would move us but he turned them down. The cost of living here is cheap.

There are tons of thing for the kids to do. I have two sons. One is a gymnast and one is a ballet dancer. Not only can I find excellent training for them, I have my choice of several different facilities. Many cities don't have any at all.

The last reason is simple. If we moved away all of our vacation dollars would be spent coming here to visit family. No money left for our own family vacations.

Because the Army gave us a list of over 250 possible choices of places to move and told us to put them in order of our choice and we would most likely get one of our top 10. This was number 110 and the highest number choice we were offered.

We live in El Paso because that's where my husband's company sent him to run projects. Just like we are moving to a very small town in Missouri next month for the same reason.

Home is where they send the paycheck.

I originally moved to Brooklyn because my boyfriend lived there. After we broke up, I stayed because my friends were here. Now I'm here because I have a job and own my apartment. I'd like to move but right now it would be hard to find a job and there's almost no market for my co-op.

I wanted my parents out of NYC when they retired so I moved them next door to my oldest sister in Chattanooga. I moved to Atlanta because of my job. That was in 1987. Both parents have passed and now I live here with no real reason besides my son being born here. I plan to move as soon as he graduates.

And now we are stuck here due to husbands job. He isn't at a good age to just switch jobs. So I am biding my time lol. Oh and we live in central Florida.
Forgot to add my family is here and that is another reason I want to move. Too much crap and drama!

Family is the main reason we live here. If it weren't for family, I would have moved somewhere warmer. I hate winter! I really think it is important for my kids to be close to extended family.

I also want my kids to go to a good school, and we have that here. We live in a small town, and the school is very family friendly. The school actually will work with the parents instead of trying to shut them out. I have heard some horror stories from people in other districts around the country.

Our house is in the middle of the woods in a rural area, so my kids have the advantage of being able to play outside out of my sight for hours at a time. They make forts in the woods, climb trees, search for bugs, just have fun being kids.

When we retire, I really want to get out of Michigan for at least 10 weeks each winter. I'm already tired of winter, and it is only December. :scared1:

Because I have not been able to talk my DH into moving somewhere else yet....I keep trying, one day, he will give into me and let us move to the West Coast......even if to just shut me up :rotfl:.

After traveling around this country and then Europe, going to college in the big city (Boston;)) and spending a few months here and there, I found myself coming home to get married and raise my family here. I know everyone or if I don't my parents do and my entire family was born and raised here or very close to here (way back to great greats). Mom, Dad, and my siblings are all still here within a town of each other.

Why do I still live here? Because DD's father threatened to take custody of her a few years back when I researched moving to South Carolina with her. I had good intentions and was really just trying to get ahead professionally (there were many teaching positions for newbies) and financially (I could have sold my house, walked with $300K and bought a condo for half that). I chose her over my own selfish needs and wants but....

As soon as she graduates from high school, I am out of here:thumbsup2 I want to be someplace warm and free of stress, in a small cottage or beach house with a huge dog and a pickup truck:laughing: A husband to help support my plan would be nice too. I can dream can't I?

What is so intriguing about threads like this is that so many people are somewhere that they are eager to leave and others are eager to go! I see posters wanting to leave MD and Central Florida and I would LOVE to get back to either place but I am sure there are people who would love to move to GA where we live now (but we are already counting the days until we can leave!).

Different strokes, I guess.
