Why do you live where you live?

my family on my dads side has lived in the same neighborhood for 6 generations, my grandfather lives nextdoor to me, his sister(my aunt) on the other side of me, my parents live across the steet and 2 houses down, the entire neighborhood is family. our business is within eyesight of my home, i couldn't imagine living anywhere else. plus i built my home with my own 2 hands.

Our last Air Force assignment before DH retired. I hope to be a snowbird when he retire retires. ;)

We live here because it is where we grew up. LOL :lmao:
This city has amazing history, fantastic schools/universities and hospitals, THE BEST sports teams, a great music scene, and the people here are comical. If you have never been here you have to visit!
We <3 Boston Massachusetts! It is a great city!

We moved here with my DH's job to get back to Sweet Home Alabama and close to family.:thumbsup2 Now, if we could only get out of this small town and into a larger one I would be super excited. :thumbsup2 We like it here though because the kids are happy in school and have made lots of friends. I have a Dd who is graduating from HS this year and she is able to go to the community college here for free because of her grades.:cool1: That's worth a lot to me, to have her at home with us for two more years.

Because this is the most truly unique and interesting city in the U.S. History going back for decades. Music, food, and historical traditions that exist no where else.

Laissez les bons temps rouler. Best people in the world - especially my DIS friends.

On snowy stormy days like this, I always wonder . We are getting bombed with snow, winds, the whole 9 yards. Yep, after 41 years, I am used to it, but I still HATE IT!

Rant over: Because I was born and brought up here, and I do love our city so much. There is a lot of history, and it is a nice multi-cultural, bilingual city. It is my home.:goodvibes

Because I was too stupid to move where it's warm when I was young, single and independent. Retirement and escaping winter cannot come soon enough.
Same here. Because I was too stupid to get out of Pennsylvania when I was young, single, and fresh out of college. If you don't live or commute to Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Erie, or have an Engineering degree, you're broke.

I'm currently a university student, so I'm here because of school and family. When I graduate, who knows? I would like to stay where I am but the housing prices around here are crazy. Unless I do graduate school in the US I will probably stay in Canada. Life has a way of throwing curve balls though, so who really knows?:goodvibes

I grew up about an hour from where we live. DH moved down here from Cleveland. I love living here and don't want to move out of the area. I like having 4 seasons with winter being short, being 3 hrs from the mountaind and the beach, and being close to a fairly large metropolitan city but still have a little small town vibe. The schools here are good and both our jobs are very close by.

I live here because I grew up here. It is where I am comfortable, it where I can find everything, get to anywhere, and know what weekend in the summertime will be ArtWalk, where the fireworks displays will be held, where the best houses are to go Trick-or-Treating, and what lot sells the best Xmas trees. I know all the teachers at the high schools, when the marching band will play at the football game, and what weekend the monster truck show is every summer.

I live here because DH's family lives here and all of our friends live here.

I live here because I was too dumb to make a break for it and get the Flock out of Dodge before all of my kids got settled in school. Now that my oldest is in high school I can't imagine pulling her out of school and away from all of her friends and her activities to move, so we are stuck here till she graduates, and then by that time middle DD will be in middle school and then a few years later she will be in high school and youngest DD will be in middle school and there will just never be a good time till all three of them have graduated!! :furious:

I live here because I was silly and bought a house before the real estate market took a nose dive. Now I have equity built up in it, and I really don't want to piddle it all away, so I would like to not sell my house until the market rebounds a bit. And who knows how long THAT may take.

I live here because, between the months of June and October, there is no place on Earth I would rather be. I love the mountains, the lakes, the rivers, and smells and sounds of Northwest Montana. I love Glacier National Park, and Flathead Lake. It soothes the soul and refreshes the spirit.

The other 7 months of the year, however, I need professional counselling and thereputic drugs. It is endlessly cold (currently 15° at 7 PM), windy (wind chills usually put our temperatures in the below zero range), dark (we don't see the sun for days on end - always cloudy - and the sun sets by 4:30 in the afternoon) and snowy (it started snowing before Thanksgiving and hasn't stopped, we have more than a foot of snow on the level - that isn't counting the drifts and piles). The roads are slippery and dangerous, the house is impossible to keep warm (I sleep under 3(!) comforters), and Seasonal Affective Disorder is just a fact of life. :cold:

So, why do I live here? This is probably the wrong time of year to ask that question... get back to me in July.

I would make a really good Snowbird. :teleport:

Because my parents moved here when I was 12. No reason to move, so I live her now 26 years later.

Because my husbands job decided that we have to live here.

I like it though. Close to the beach and his paycheck goes a lot farther than it did in northern virginia!

4 seasons, great schools, strong ties to my community, no creepy crawlies, central to everywhere, beautiful scenery..

Someone on another board I read posted this, and I thought it was interesting.

For me, it's because my entire family and friends are here, I'm going to school here, hopefully will be getting a job here after that. I love it here. I love that we have all 4 seasons, i'm so close to NYC, and every time I leave, I can't wait to come back home.

I live on Long Island, NY.

Ahhh..to be young....A different perspective from where I sit

Long Islander here too. Only...We'd move if we could. :headache: Have two kids in college and one that works as a police officer in Manhattan. Our roots are here, as our families are here. I often have said outloud.."how exactly did our families land on Long Island?" If anything we feel trapped, as we make a living here. Yet the cost of living is astronomical. It's getting tougher and tougher to stay. TAXES in Nassau County are one the highest in the nation.

You don't ask if you can afford a house payment anymore..the first thing you ask when looking at a home is "can I afford the taxes. $17,000 in real estate taxes. THAT's NUTS. :scared1: Now, that's before the mortgage payment.

It's near impossible for young people to stay and buy a decent home on Long Island.
Sure the seasons are nice. Only the least little bit of snow, and it becomes a nightmare, and everything stops.
Traffic is God awful, and the island is so much more congested than it was years ago. I don't go out onto the major roadways after 4:30..or it's grid lock. Proximity to NYC...has it's perks. It also has it's concerns. Everyone here is in a hurry. ALL THE TIME. Try hesitating when a red light turns green. Jeeze Louise..what's the hurry?..:headache:

I think if I were to move I would definetly want to be near the water, as growing up on Long Island the beaches/boating have always been a big part of our lives. Other than that..I would leave in a heart beat if we could make a living somewhere else.

We moved back to Boston from NYC 2 years ago. Loved NYC but we missed being on the ocean (we are both sailors). My DH makes a great living here which would not be possible outside of NYC or Boston for his profession ( I'd love some warm weather this time of year though!)
We live right outside the city so we have some growing room but still live across from public transportation and have all the benefits of city living

We moved to Orlando for a number of reasons. We fell in love with Florida during our many visits here. I love the many things there are to do here. I love the mix of people from so many parts of the world. My neighbors are literally from many different countries.

I love living near the theme parks. I love the weather. I have arthritis and the cold bothers me a great deal. Tonight, it is very cold for Orlando and my joints are telling me about it.

Since moving here, I've met so many great people. I've done things I never thought I'd get a chance to do. I love living here and have no plans to ever leave.

Nah...never mind. No one here would believe it anyway.

Because we have to. DH is military so we have no choice..they said Tucson, so here we are. We're both from Michigan, and miss the seasons among other things. We cannot wait to get back there, or even somewhere near there, but chances are that won't happen until DH gets out.
