Why do you live where you live?

Someone on another board I read posted this, and I thought it was interesting.

For me, it's because my entire family and friends are here, I'm going to school here, hopefully will be getting a job here after that. I love it here. I love that we have all 4 seasons, i'm so close to NYC, and every time I leave, I can't wait to come back home.

I live on Long Island, NY.

In my city? Or in my state?

Well...

We live in "cold" Michigan as opposed to somewhere else because we are only children, and our parents are here. All of our other family and our friends are here as well. That, and it's just... home.

We live in our city because it was the closest city to the city my DH works in that we were willing to live in that was SAFE. (He works in a really rough city.) I say "willing" to live in because it's far from our families, but convienient in that it's close to major freeways, so easy for us to GET to one another.

My DH has a good job here. His chances of being laid off are miniscule. We live in what is considered a "great" school district (I have my doubts about that, but reputation is important) and I still have one child who has to finish school.

I live right outside Washington, DC.

1. Taxes... or lack thereof.

2. Political stability; I don't know if the Caymans have any true enemy. We may have politicians that denounce our financial policies, but then again they are the very same people investing in our economy.

3. Water (my favorite)... the clearest in the Caribbean, and perhaps the world. Makes for some of the best diving, sailing, and swimming in the entire world.

4. The people... coming from NYC, where everyone had a chip on their shoulder, and here, everyone just seems to have a smile on their face. It's not just the vacationers, either.

I head out everyday with a sundress, at the most when I'm home. How could I not love it?

Because the Coast Guard told us to.

We stay in Michigan because this is where we're from, where our families are. We want the kids to have close relationships with their grandparents; living where we do, the grandparents can come to band concerts and sporting events and see the kids often. But beyond that, we do really love it here. Sure, we fantasize about living somewhere with better weather, but I don't think I'd ever really leave the Detroit area permanently - we'd like to have a winter place down south eventually, but for eight or nine months of the year I wouldn't want to be anywhere but here.

We live in the specific town we live in because it is a friendly, walkable, supportive small town community, just the sort of place we want to raise our children. It is very Mayberry-esque (or in DH's words during the town festival when the main street was closed to traffic, "Its like Main Street at Disney World"), and our kids are enjoying a fairly old-fashioned childhood with freedoms we wouldn't feel comfortable giving them if we'd stayed in the city.

In short, we're here because this is where we found jobs.

Dh and I couldn't find teaching jobs in our home state, so we applied to work in a lot of states and moved to the first place we were hired.

We don't care for where we live, but since dh is employed by the county (we've been here since 1992--too much of a retirement investment to move now) we are staying put. We'd love to live in Florida!

We live within a few hours of our families so that we can maintain relationships. However, the bigger reason is that we can have a wonderful quality of life here. We have four seasons, good schools, good jobs and amazing housing prices.

I bet you live in Rochester ;) You don't have to say, but it sounds like Rochester!

Because it's supposed to be warm, I very much dislike cold weather after growing up in it.

I would say Rochester too:cloud9: I loved having lunch /shopping in Rochester when I lived up there.

Why I live here? Hmmm so many reasons!

For one I couldn't wait to get out of cold Michigan. The winters were just too much for me! I met my husband while on vacation in Nashville...so I guess thats reason number 2, I live where he lives :lovestruc

The city we live in is because we are close enough to the city to do whatever we want/need but far enough away that we have the privacy of living in the country.

Because this is where I got a job. Then my hubby got a job about 60 miles north of where I was, so we split the difference.

I'm hoping he gets a job in the district or NoVA so we can return to Virginia. I like the weather here, not so much the traffic, but I'm orignally from the Boston area so I'm rather used to the traffic.

I'd move further south to the Carolinas or up to Pennsylvania if I could. My family is spread all over, but that's how we grew up. I'm super close to all of them - geographic proximity doesn't matter. Having family close by is completely foreign to me.

It was the last place the Navy sent us; we made friends, our house is within walking distance of an elementary and middle school and it's warm most of the year. :thumbsup2 Honestly, I feel so much happier since moving South, no more 'blue' days mentally, no more weeks of grey sky, I'm totally spoiled now. Plus my BF and her hubby should be getting orders here any day now.

My mom complains all the time that I left them, but honestly, they've retired 2,000 miles from where I grew up so it's not like it's home. They got snow in September and wonder why I'm not interested in moving north?! Yeah, August kind of sucks but I figure that's why AC was invented. It doesn't matter where we live for DH's job, and my school is here.

Oh, and it's 3 hours from the Mouse! :rolleyes1

Because I was too stupid to move where it's warm when I was young, single and independent. Retirement and escaping winter cannot come soon enough.

I live in Jersey because that is where I was born. We moved to this city because it was where we could find an affordable home that wasn't a handyman special. WE live within an hour of family and that is really nice. We don't like the high taxes but the schools are excellent so it's worth it. Do not like the winter at all but the other seasons are wonderful.

I moved to Denmark to be with my boyfriend (now husband). I'm not close at all to my family, and he's very close to his, so it was easy... though I do get homesick sometimes. :)

We live in Northern VA because Dh is a Marine and they sent him to a base here.

We live in the particular city we live in, because it was family friendly, affordable to us at the time we were buying, a reasonable commute for Dh...and after looking at dozens of houses within about a 30 mile commute of his work in ALL directions, this was the house we felt best suited us!

We live where we live b/c it is important that my husband be able to earn income. There was bupkus where we came from.

I can't wait to move HOME! I consider this a TDY--perhaps a very very very very very very long TDY...but home it is not.

We live in the city we chose--b/c it is where we could afford to buy a house (renting is too expensive and not an option for long term!). Hubby has a 5 minute commute to work. There are lots of nuggets that I like about living here. I just wish the address was Florida and the weather better. The 2 weeks of fall was nice, though the novelty wore off when the leaves fell.:lmao: And I wish they'd mark the roads with something reflective. I don't know what they were thinking--but I can't see the important road markings on a rainy night.:confused3

Northern Virginia is where we are at. Nice area, but I don't get the warm fuzzies.
