I'm going to the Poly for the first time in a few weeks. I'd love to hear what makes the Polynesian the right hotel for you while at Disney. Got any favorite places to hang out, have a drink, watch the fireworks? Tell me some of your best Polynesian stories. :earsboy: :earsgirl:

It's like sleeping in the Tiki Room:teeth:

Just the other day I was thinking about the Polynesian and how much we have enjoyed our stays there. We have only stayed there twice, but we hope to go back soon.

One of our favorite parts is the way you are taken to your building in the golf cart when you first arrive. I guess this sounds silly, but I enjoy cruising the pathway, chatting with the CM and just being so happy to finally be there!

We also enjoy coming in at night and seeing the resort lit by the tiki torches. When I are tired from a long day, I find the quiet, dark walk back to our building very relaxing. The landscaping and lighting are so beautiful.

Have fun!

Just the whole atmosphere! Plus I used to stay there with my family when I was a kid and in college so I guess it's kind of sentimental. I'm already trying to plan a 2006 trip so I can get back to the Poly. I didn't realize how much I'd missed it until I started planning our Christmas trip at WL (eventually changed to GF) and kept thinking about the Poly right across the lagoon! The pool is fabulous - as are the drinks at the pool bar I'm sure but I was only 18 and with Mom and Daddy last time I was there. The decor is so cute, the landscaping is breathtaking! The lobby - that just says "Disney Vacation" to me. I can even remember how cool it felt in there, how the waterfall sounds, and how it smells!

I'd like to jump on here - what about for honeymooners? My daughter and son-in-law-to-be are thinking of the Poly. Is it romantic? Will they love it? Thanks for any responses!

*walking along the torch-lit paths at night
*staying concierge on our wedding night
*the view of the castle from the beach, pool, GCH
*the beautiful lobby and atrium
*the breakfasts at Kona Cafe
*the smell-I love the smell
*monorail transport to MK and Epcot

I could go on and on.....:D
We are staying concierge during our May trip next year! Can't wait!:teeth:

To me, the Poly is the epitome of real Disney magic!

From the moment you check in and receive your lei, to hearing the sounds of the Disney railroad whistling in the morning, it's really heavenly!

We LOVED the Poly and hope to return someday soon! :earsgirl:

Everything! The hawaiian music as you walk the grounds. The gorgeous landscaping. The wonderful scent of Gardenias. The fantastic view of the lagoon while sipping a Lava Flow at the most inviting pool at WDW. The spacious and clean rooms. The most delicious food at the restaurants. The location. The monorail and TTC and boat access. The drive to your room in the golf cart. The wonderful and attentive staff. The lei upon check in. The little shops to buy polynesian apparel. The beautiful lobby. Great room service. The ability to watch the Wishes and the water parade from your beach. The beach with the cabanas built for two. The hammocks. The tiki lit paths. The Poly is the ultimate resort at WDW. You couldn't pay me to stay anywhere else. If I can't stay get a room there then I wait until I do. It just brings the overall Disney experience to a higher level. Only 23 more days til I get to do this again! :)

ONLY 16 DAYS and I'm going to get to experience all of this for the first time. I can hardly wait. I never knew about the golf carts bringing you to your room. You really learn something new all the time here on the boards!!

I just got back from 8 wonderful nights at the Poly for the first time and it is everything in these posts and more!

It's just so relaxing and easy to get to the parks. The pool is so totally awesome with the slide in the volcano - WAY COOL! My kids didn't want to leave the pool - even to go to the parks!

The jasmine on the path by the pool was so sweet smelling.
Ralph at the Marina was so nice and remembered me after one visit for life jackets for the kids.
Wishes from the beach was so cool.
Swaying in the hammocks on a cool summer night with a slight breeze (yes, even in August this can happen!)

It's just so peaceful you forget all the madness you can encounter in the parks.

Neverland club for the kids - if you have an "off day" from the parks this is a great place for the kids from 12-4pm and it's free!

We checked out last Thursday when everyone that was evacuated further south was checking in so we got lucky to get out of there when we did, but there was a wedding off to the right of the Hawaii bldg. It is so magic there you feel like you are on an island.

It's perfect for newlyweds, young couples, families, mature couples and even singles. There's something for everyone.

Enjoy your stay!:sunny:

All of the other posters have done a great job of describing the Poly! We love the Poly because when you are there you're away from the hustle, bustle of the parks and really feel like you're on a tropical island somewhere ..... yet you know you can be experiencing the Disney magic at the parks in a matter of moments.

We'll be there in 6 weeks! C-A-N-N-O-T W-A-I-T !!!!!

it is more relaxing than any of the other resorts, partly because of the calm atmosphere, partly because it is an oasis located RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THINGS. So you can relax there but not worry if you should get going and be at a park, etc. You can lie by the pool, and watch the activity of the monorail and the ferries.

Will be at the Poly in June 05 for the first time in about 15 years. Only concern I had was an old Unofficial Guide (2003) says the noise from the speedway can be a problem for some. But I've never heard any posts on the board complaining about it. Has anyone here had a problem with that?

We have debated between the Poly and AKL (my kids will be 9 and 5). They'd love the animals, but I just don't think you can beat monorail access to the MK!

There are so many.

Convenience

Atmosphere - totally relaxing and laid back

Fireworks from the beach

Electrical Water Pageant from the beach

Volacano Pool complete with piped in Hawaiin music underwater

Good restaurants - and excellent drinks...LAPU LAPU ANYONE?

But most of all, the Poly certainly has the Disney Magic. I can almost feel Walt's presence.

Ahhh, the Poly. We will be there in 5 weeks. I cannot wait. It was the first place we stayed when we went to WDW. We have stayed at other places on and off site over the past few years but our heart belongs to the Poly. Our daughter was 5 on our first trip. She is now 11. She talks about the Poly like she was just there yesterday. She remembers every detail. I think it is the way the whole complex makes you feel. Like you are truly in another world. The sights, sounds and smells of the Poly will stay with you forever.

PamNC- yes, thank you. DH and I will take a round or two!;)

We love, Love, LOVE the Poly for all reasons stated above

atmosphere - tropical and romantic (we saw several honeymooning couples who just thought it was the best!)
convenience - monorail to MK and direct (walking) access to TTC
restaurants
shopping
views
pool AND beach

We hope you have a great trip and appreciate all the Poly has to offer!

I have been to the Poly 2 times. Once when DD was 13 and DS was 2. The second time DS was 11 and DD did not come.

Well...now to the present. I have only been to the Poly in the dead heat of the summer WITH KIDS. I am now 53 and DH is 54. We are going 11-27-04 through 12-6-04...just the two of us.

In our previous trips we were never able to stop and smell the roses. Too busy intertaining kids and commando style touring.

I feel like this trip will be our 1st time that we will actually be able to enjoy the ambiance of the Poly. We considered GF for our up coming trip, but no, the Poly is where we are going to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Just us two. Cannot wait. By the way, we are staying LVC... another first for us.

My wife, DD, and I LOVE WDW. We rarely vacation anywhere else. We have stayed at several on-site resorts of all price ranges. I can truely say the Polynesian Resort is the most relaxing place I have ever been. When I'm there, I don't think about work or problems - I'm ON VACATION! If you have any second thoughts, visit tikiman's web site. Go - Relax - Have a great time!

.....

I had also read about noise from the Speedway being heard at the Poly. We've never heard noise from the Speedway.
