Why do you drive instead of fly?

We've done both. The trip down isn't so bad because you're excited. The trip back...well, that's another story.

For us, flying is part of the adventure! We don't fly for our jobs, so flying means vacation! The more time I can spend at WDW, the better!

We do both depending on cost. Being a family of 5, flying is usually the more expensive of the two. BUT if we can book $100 RT or less, then we always fly naturally. Anything more than that and we drive :( We drive straight through so it is considerably cheaper for us to drive. But to be honest, I HATE driving - would rather fly down in 3 hours. But if we flew everytime, we would only be able to afford a trip once a year.

We're driving next week!! Leave Friday at 5:00 pm and should be arriving in Orlando around 5:00 pm on Saturday :Pinkbounc

One of my biggest reasons is cost. We are a family of 7. It adds up to quite a bit, plus then we need a rental car on top of that. Being that we are a single income family for the time being, the expense of airfare would make it tough for us money wise. Then either we spend the extra and get a rental car or we have no car at all, which I just dont like that idea. We dont mind the driving. For our trip in April, we are leaving on a Thursday afternoon and driving only about 8 hours and then staying over. We dont want to kill ourselves with hours of driving and then be exhausted by the time we check in on saturday.

We have done both. We drove in May because we were bringing things out to my mom who lives there, needed a car once there anyways, and this was MUCH cheaper - we wouldn't have been able to go without driving. Airfare from DFW is pretty high usually, no cheap airfares from JetBlue around here.

We also drove straight through, so we really didn't lose much time at all. Left at 10pm the night before, got there by 3pm the next day.

My family used to drive there mainly because my parents enjoyed the drive, we stopped at fun places along the way, and wrapped more than jsut WDW into our vacation. Plus expenses, esp for 5 people.

We're driving on our next trip because...

1) To save a little money.

2) We're staying offsite this trip and don't want to deal with hotel shuttles

3) The trip is about 14 hours for us. By the time we get to the airport, check in, fly to Orlando, get from the airport to where we need to be, it will take about seven hours (give or take a bit). By that time we are halfway there on the interstate.
