Why do YOU camp at the Fort?

We've stayed in hotels on property, camped off property and owned a DVC membership for a few years and used those accommodations. But when it comes right down to it we prefer to camp at the Fort. Why?

1. Our "other" home (the 5th wheel) is comfortable and familiar.
2. We own it so it's less expensive than getting a room.
3. We're on property.
4. You can't beat all the recreation opportunities at the Fort.
5. We love the friendly atmosphere at the Fort.
6. Our dog gets to vacation with us too.

There are proabably a ton of other reasons, but that what I thought of off the top of my head.

So how about you?

We planned to stay at the Fort originally because we thought it was cheaper than the hotels. We actually bought our pup because it was more cost effective for us to stay at the Fort versus hotels - unfortunately, now, that isn't necessarily the case all the time (for us anyway). If I can score free dining or the discount "code" - that seals the deal for me to stay at Wilderness Lodge or moderate.

1. DH loves the golf cart rental
2. kids like pool theming
3. we like riding the boats to MK
4. close to monorail resorts
5. sleep in my own bed

I am not gonna sleep with the bed bugs just for free dinning :yay:

Sorry just had to say it

Good :thumbsup2, that leaves more room at the Wilderness Lodge and Poly for me! Been going to Disney for 20 years and haven't seen a bedbug yet!

sorry, just had to say it!

I did stay at the hotels back in 99 and 2000 Just another room, The Fort is much better.

Our family LOVES FW and I am really looking forward to going back in Dec for our first Christmas at Disney! We'll be back in Sept but made the tough decision to stay in a hotel since we're pairing our trip with a cruise.

I love hearing the MK ferry's horn when we stay there. To me, that is always the signal that we are "home".
There is such a feeling of peacefulness at the Fort, even in the chaos.
I love going down to the marina and watching the fireworks.
I love having our dog with us and she loves the dog park!
I love the camping community in general - nice, respectful people.

Summer just started....but I can't wait til December! :)

1. We don't have to listen to tired kids screaming their heads off because they were kept out too late cause Dad and Mom spent so much money on vacation!
2. We get to sleep in our own beds at night
3. After a LONG day in the parks we pull up , get out and we are HOME nit hiking a mile to our room when tired.
4. DGD and I enjoy our special looping time in the golf cart to give Mommy so me time.
5. We enjoy just kicking back on our "patio" for some destressing quiet time from work and park hopping! Much more laid back than in a hotel room. Fresh air!!! Sunshine !
6. Our furbabies can come with us. Mine is a rescue and doesn't like change. She is quite content to chill on her bed next to mine OR climb in sneaky fashion to be with the DGD lol
7. DGD is autistic and this is one less change that otherwise triggers stress for her. She actually said ( after going to AKL) for 7 days she would rather stay at the FORT! Could go on and on! We love the Fort!

Our son is autistic too, and after a disasterous stay in a hotel room (not a Disney trip) we went to an RV show and suddenly had an epiphany. Getting a camper was one of the best things we've ever done. No matter where we travel we have our familiar other home with us :). An RV allows us to actually enjoy a vacation.

We didn't always camp at the fort. Until about seven years ago, we were totally hotel people. Then, we discovered camping and loved it because:

1. While she was alive, our dog came with us.

2. We eat healthier. When we went on vacations and stayed in hotels, we ate all of our meals out. I felt like a leaden sinker after a few days.

3. I don't worry about the cleanliness of a room.

4. It is like staying in our home.

We spend much more to drive down and stay at the fort rather than fly and hotel. We do it because:

1. My kids can ride their bikes in the loop
2. My home, my coffee, my snacks
3. There is a state of calm at the fort and the mornings are like nothing else.
4. Golf cart cruising

We will continue to stay at the fort until we no longer rv. I don't see that happening any time soon. See y'all at Christmas.

Most of my reasons have been stated above:

1. Like to prepare our own meals.
2. Sleeping on our own beds.
3. I love to decorate the camper
4. I can combine two things I love to do, camp and visit WDW

I agree with all of the above. I would also add:

More freedom of space. When we are in a hotel room it feels like we are all on top of each other. When we are in the camper, hubby can take a nap, one child can watch a movie, one child can ride a bike around the loop and I can sit outside watching while reading a book.

Everyone can wake up at their own pace. If I get up first I can fix myself a cup of coffee and sit outside relaxing until everyone else wakes up.

Our camper meets my clean standard. I know it's clean because I cleaned it myself. It smells fresh and I don't worry about a bedspread that's not been properly cleaned, etc.

We love riding bikes at the Fort. We've seen lots of wildlife and it's one of our favorite things about the Fort.

We love the fact that it's budget friendly for us. The drive isnt bad and the Kiddo can:

Have some independence.. (Riding his bike around the loop)
We love the Movie Time with Chip and Dale
Great views of the Electric Water Parade
All the joys of being on property!

We fly down. Pack tent, air matress, sheets & pillows in one suitcase. That leaves 3 more to pack anything else we need. I love the cost. My new found love is the horse stable. DS & I spent 3 hrs there. The grounds are great. I don't feel like I HAVE to go to the parks to enjoy our vacation & still have Disney Magical experiences. Its so calm. The beach & wildlife. The bath house is sooooo clean. Son has the freedom of running around outside. NO TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:happytv:

We love Ft. Wilderness campground because:

We love to cook out

Grandchildren can get out and ride their bikes...(you are not cooped up in a hotel room with tired kids)

Sleep in our own beds

Relaxed atmosphere

Campfire ring with smores and a disney movie

Transportation to and from parks

and all the friendly folks we have met at the campground !
