Why do you buy/stay at Hilton Head?

Why did you buy at Hilton Head?

  • We really want to trade for WDW, but HH was cheaper.

  • We love the HH area, and DVC was the best on the island for what our family likes.

  • We love HH, but bought a non-DVC timeshare because it offered more of what our family likes.

  • We actually bought at a different DVC resort, but hope to trade for HH on occasion.

None of the above. We love HH, love the Disney resort there, and found that buying at the DVC resort gave us greater flexibility, better met our needs, and was more affordable given our vacation habits. The chance to occasionally combine our points for WDW vacations was also a plus for us.

My intention was that your type of reasons would fall under choice two, since it best fit your family's needs/vacation habits - I was trying to keep the descriptions short. Sorry if it didn't exactly fit your situation, but thanks for expounding and your detailed explanation.

We love DVC and my DH loves to golf so it was the natural choice. We sometimes use our points for WDW, or the concierge collection. But we bought where we most wanted to go.

I guess I'm surprised - I expected the most popular answers to be "bought WDW, will try HH" (which was popular) or "bought HH cheaper" (which was not).

I had no idea so many would buy DVC at HH vs. a different HH resort. I guess beachfront isn't as popular as I thought.

I bought pre-construction in 1995 because it was DVC.
I live only 1-2 hours from HH, on the coast of Georgia, on a creek/marsh-so anything else on HH would be "been there-done that".
Beach access was never a draw as I am only 1 hour from Tybee Island, GA.

I just knew that anything Disney did would be worth having (I owned at OKW already).
I am not sorry..HH DVC is a jewel in the Disney crown. I've noticed that it is gaining in popularity.

WOW!! Thanks for having the courage to admit that you may not have been "entirely" correct in your assumptions. :rotfl: (Trying to be PC here, LOL!)

Seriously, we love the resort. We've even thought about selling our points and buying a villa somewhere on the island (probably Palmetto Dunes) so that we could go whenever we want. But we're not there yet. We love the atmosphere of the resort, the people, and everything else about it! The only real advantage we can think of to owning our own villa is that then we could bring our dogs with. ;)

Heck, no problem there - I'm not even a big beach person. I just expected the answers to be spread a bit differently, given what I had read previously on this board.

We bought at BWV in 2000. We tallked to our guide about purchasing at BCV and he talked us into HH. Now I realize it was a sales ploy but what he said made sense to us and we added on at HH instead. That was in 2002. We have gone every year at Thanksgiving since. We love it there. Works well for us!

there's nothing to do there.....DVC is not on the beach.....go to Florida!!! :rotfl2:

Please everybody....Shushhhh.....don't let the HH secret out....I don't want everybody to know about it.

Seriously, we love it there. When we bought we thought we would just stay there on our way to and from Florida...we live in Virginia....but we fell in love with HH the first time we stayed. We've been back several times....taken family there for Thanksgiving....stayed for a week or longer just the two of us.

I love to get up early and watch the sun rise over the marsh. There is a calmness to the beauty - it brings complete peacefulness to my soul. I think everybody needs someplace to rejuvinate....HH is mine!

are you saying hh resort allows dog pets?

No, I think you misunderstood. What I said was that the only advantage to owning our own personal villa in HH (as opposed to DVC) would be that then we could bring our dogs with us.

Just as with all other Disney resorts, dogs, cats, pets of any sort are not allowed. :sad2: Shadow is the only exception. (Except for owners of boats who dock in the Shelter Cove marina who sometimes bring their dogs up to "exercise" them.) :rolleyes1

We actually bought at BCV, but knew at that time we would use our points for alot of different places with HH being one of our top choices. We had no problems getting reservations at the 7 month window for our spring break 06 trip to HH which was the first week of April.

If it was just me (dh not really a beach or lets relax kind of person) we would go to HH every spring break and save WDW for Fall and Winter trips...

I'm with my buddies Disneyaholic and Kews. We love HHI and go every chance we get. I owned at OKW and BWV before buying HH. When the former DH and I divorced :wave2: , I sold OKW and BWV, but no way was I giving up my HH points!

I agree with the comments about not being able to have my dogs with me at the resort--having them with us would make it perfect!
