Why do threads get closed?

I was trying to understand the issues with pool-hopping, and noticed that a new thread had been started yesterday over at the camping forum. The person asked a question similar to some that I had been thinking, but there were no replies. Then I noticed that the thread was closed. Is that a moderator thing? Why would a thread get closed, and why would that happen with no explanation?

The thread was this one.

I'ts usually the same old questions, asked to death, that a common reading of any section will give anyone the answer, are asked again. Debates occur, ways to beat the system that goes against the forum posting rules, causes the closing. Seems the answers are neither right or wrong but should be common sense get fudged along with others stating their experiences and what they feel that's right but completely against Disney's policies bringing a closure. After you read these boards for awhile, you swear people just post a question without reading anything posted before and it goes round and round again, same question, same answers same debates, and can ridiculous and nasty at times.

Threads get closed by moderators or webmasters when they become argumentative and inflammatory or discuss ways to get around Disney Policy, or otherwise violate the DIS rules. There are some "hot topics" that we know from experience will always just turn into fights and attacks so often then get closed preemptively, usually with a statement from the moderator that clarifies the policy.

We don't close threads just because they ask the same questions over and over--if we did then I would spend a lot of time closing "How do I post a photo" threads here. :)

If you do a search on "pool hoping" you will find many discussions that may "unofficially" answer your question. But by Disney policy pool hoping is NOT allowed except among the 3 All Star Resorts, or if you are a DVC member. So don't do it.

Well, technically "pool hoping" is allowed - but "pool hopping" is not, except under the conditions you listed.

:rotfl: :rotfl: Sorry, saw this and couldn't resist!!

:lmao: That is what I get for answering in a hurry. !!! Yep, I spend a lot of time Disney Pool Hoping-- especially in the winter!

Pool hopping is always a great Thread killer. Most debated topis on the DIS.

Yeah, I have read posts on this forum that state pool hopping is 'technically not allowed'. I've also stayed at Wilderness Lodge, and never saw a sign that indicated this (maybe it more blatant now - than was three years ago). I have to admit, the feeling I am getting is that the prohibition against pool hopping is 'more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules' (to quote Barbossa pirate:).

But, back to the question of closing a thread, this one had no replies, it was closed nearly instantly, and the question was different than I have ever seen - the poster asked if anyone had ever been kicked out of the FWL pool for pool hopping.

By the way, this isn't meant to be a criticism of the moderators here. I'm new to this discussion board, and am just trying to understand the policies and practices here. I definitely appreciate the diligence of moderators in keeping this forum clean and fun. :thumbsup2

I agree.

We travel to WDW mainly in January, so I am always hoping for an indoor pool, or 75 degree weather. NO such luck.
