Why do they ask if you have any crowns before you have surgery?

Do you know why it is that you asked if you have any crowns or caps on your teeth before you have any type of surgery?

Does it have something to do with the anesthesia?

they told me that it was due to the use of breathing t ubes during surgery , that the tubes can possibly knock crowns etc loose and if so, they need to be able to look for them to be able to get them if they are broken off by accident, to keep you from swallowing the stuff

I've been having problems with my crown since I had surgery on Monday but I didn't have a breathing tube.

Guess I'll be seeing the dentist soon. Thanks for the info.

Yep, it's the same with loose teeth. Several times when our daughter went in for surgery, they asked that. And, of course one of her teeth was lost just that way! My Mom and I were looking at her in ICU, when we noticed she was missing one. We looked at each other, then asked the nurse. The medical staff was surprised too. Never saw that tooth again! Apparently it got knocked out while they were intubating her for surgery. Thank goodness it was just a baby tooth.

if you had general anesthesia,, odds are you were tubed while you were under, ( thjats also why most ppl feel like they have asore throat after surgery,,) they may have raked youir crown with teh tubes and loosened i have one tooth that broke off during surgery back in november, that i still cant ghet repaired because i am facing so many more operations and the crown would very probably be damaged at aa later date
