Why do some people hate cats so much?

I love cats, and I can understand why some people might not especially care for cats, but there are alot of people that just hate them.

Can a cat hater please chime in? No flames - I just want to know what you hate about them. They're just so lovable and entertaining to me and I need an education.

I don't hate them, per se. I'm allergic to them and asthmatic. DBF's cat is constantly rubbing up against me and jumping on the bed while i'm laying down. I prefer dogs.

I truly believe some people are afraid of them. I'm very nervous around big dogs (got bit when I was a kid) but I don't hate them. I know what you're saying though. I could never hate any animal. It's just not in my genes.

I certainly don't *hate* cats, but I really, really don't like them at all. I can't stand walking into a house and smelling cat, cat pee and kitty litter. I don't like how moody they can be and I've seen some vicious scratches from them. I can't stand how they get up on all of the furniture, countertops, cars, etc. I can't stand having cat hair all over the place. They are just not my kind of animal. I can't imagine having any affection at all for them. They just aren't loveable to me. That being said, I would never wish any harm upon them. I just don't want them around me.

I am much more of a dog person.

They are spooky, sneaky not to mention litter boxes. I also have major allergies so cats are a no no.
I just feel cats are unpredictable.......

I don't hate cats at all, I just don't particualarly care for them. If they stay clean and smell-free, I don't necesarilly care that they're there.

I love them, too, but my grandma was always terrified of them. Her brother threw one on her when she was sleeping in her bed once, and she was scared ever since.

She learned to love our cats, but she hated all others.

I had a friend who told me that he resented cats because unlike his dog, he could not control them. Cats are very independent and that's what I admire about them.

I actually kind of like cats, but I'm extremely allergic to them. And their sandpapery tounges and hissy noises kind of freak me out.

Every time I grumble about cleaning the litter box, I think of the alternative: dog-walking in the cold and/or dark and/or rain and/or snow. And even then, you still have to deal with poo, picking it up in a baggie to cart along with you for the rest of the trip! The last time I dog-sat for a friend, I spent a very unpleasant 45 minutes at 5:30 one morning, traipsing through her neighborhood in 15 degree weather while her dog looked for the Shangri-La of lawns on which to crap, God love her.

Don't get me wrong--I love dogs, too. I grew up with Labs and German shepherds and wouldn't hesitate to get a dog of my own if I had a house with a good-sized yard. But for right now, the fact that I have a very low-maintenance cat who worships the ground I walk on is perfect for me.

Well, hate's a strong word, but I can't stand cats.

I'm also allergic to them so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.

But the thought of cats jumping up on countertops and tables where food is prepared really disgusts me.

If I weren't allergic to them, I'd have one.

I'm an equal opportunity hater..I hate cats and dogs I think they are both dirty and annoying. One licks their butt then tries to lick your face, the other crawls around in the litter box, then on the counter/furniture, etc. Skeeves me out!

I think it all depends on how you like your animals to respond to things. I received an e-mail from a coworker the other day that I'll post. I think its hilarious and illustrates the difference in personalities between dogs and cats.

Excerpts from a Cat's Daily Diary:
Day 683 of my captivity: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and myself are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.
The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the floor.

Day 692, I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. The audacity! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Day 715, I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

Day 760, I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released--and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded!

Day 803, The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. The captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell!

I've never really been around cats that much but I don't like their freaky eyes, the way their tail goes straight up and how they rub against you. I'm just sayin'.

A Cat and Dog Lover. I do prefer Cats over dogs, as I can get along with them better than dogs. I recently saw a Parade Magazine that had Toygers which is a cat and tiger mix, and I want ONE of those SO bad, but they go for 1,500 bucks! They were really beautiful though.

I don't hate cats, but I find that people who are obsessed with cats are usually very strange-- just not my kind of people. Pet obsessions in general are quite bizarre.
