Why do some Kerry supporters have to resort to name calling?

I'll start by saying I am not a political person AT ALL so I can't debate with you on anything. I just don't understand why something so important as the presidential election can make people so childish. I saw a car this this morning with 3 bumper stickers on it. One that said "Kerry '04", another one that said "Save the environment - plant a Bush back in Texas" and the last one said "Somewhere in Texas, a village is missing it's idiot" I'm sorry - was he trying to get me to vote for Kerry by putting those on his car? Guess what - it SO didn't work. And you can't tell me that John Kerry approves of stuff like that - or does he?

Dick Cheney might know the @#$!!** answer.:teeth:

Seriously, if you are only seeing this as a "Kerry Supporter" problem, you need to get out more.:)

I have been disgusted by the actions on both sides for years.

By the way Kelly, you are right. It does not work.

On a tangent......I have a lot less problem with Cheney saying this in response to a personal affront than when he called the N.Y. Times reporter an A@#$%&*.

I agree with the OP though. Politics continues to decline to new lows all the time. There are a lot of days I wish I didn't care.

I think both candidates need to come out and say that they are against such things. This way they can distance themselves from it and not be acused of supporting it.

I agree that it is getting to be too much but those are SOOO funny. :teeth: ::yes::

It is sad isn't it?

I don't see the actual candidates acting like this, which is a good thing, but supporters on both sides need to grow up. And you are right, tactics like that do not make independents decide to vote for their candidate.

It's on BOTH sides and I find it childish and unneccessary, in all forms of life.

The "This Land" comedy parody highlights lots of these ridiculous "names", I personally find the nicknames Democrats and liberals have been subjected to for YEARS, thanks to the likes of my former co-workers Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Neil Boortz... they have made the nicknames so much a part of the American vernacular that some people, including Arnold, think it's perfectly okay to refer to their opponents with them.

On this board I've seen the President referred to derogatorily, then I've seen Kerry referred to as John F'ing Kerry.... :earseek: ... now THAT was nice.

I believe strongly in freedom of speech but I think when we resort to name calling it speaks volumes about the person resorting to it.

I shouldn't have labeled it as just "Kerry supporters" and I apologize for that - it just happened to be what I saw this morning.

I'm sorry, but you have to admit those are pretty funny. Anyone can make a bumper stick so don't think that a candidate on either side would need to support it to get it made. I agree most of the mud slinging is way over the top but every now and then a good line does come out on both sides.

I'm not a Kerry supporter, but let's face it... bumper stickers aren't ever going to change anyone's vote. And if they're amusing, I don't particularly care what the politics. Actually my favorite bumper sticker is still:

Lottery: tax on people who are bad at math

I don't think the bumper stickers are put out to necessarily garnish support. When I see bumper stickers like the ones you described (which are very funny), I see it more as a person who is frustrated with the other side for whatever reason and is just venting those frustrations.
