think that all animation is Disney?

I don't understand this.. Have any of you had this happen to you? Or have you overheard it in a store in the parks? Someone asks for Ice Age, Robots, or Shrek merchandise...the CM kindly tells them it's not Disney and they ARGUE? "Yes it is! You don't know anything!"

I dunno...what does Disney have to do to prove that there are many other companies that produce animation out there?

For the same reason that people say, "I love WDW...the Spiderman ride is my favorite."

:sad2:

Or.. "I swear to you I rode ET last time I was in MGM. It was right next to Star Tours and Back To The Future."

Simple answer: Because for a long time they were really the only ones making feature length animated movies that were shown in theaters so the mind set has stuck.

I think its the same reason people call all soda drinks Coke, all tissues Kleenex and all cotton swabs Q-tips!

Hey, there was someone who once posted HERE that WDW should add a ride based on a non-Disney movie. When I responded & told him it wasn't a Disney movie, he challanged me. I had to get a link to prove I was right. I do think the poster was a kid, but still.... :rotfl:

Guilty. :smooth:

(I think that's just a Southern thing.)

Yeah, my friend from Texas always says "I'll have a Coke.." and then you have to ask her "What kind?" ^_^

I think it's a question that most people don't totally understand brand names and such. DW once said that someday the world will only have four companies - Coke, Microsoft, the May company and some entertainment conglomerate would be my guess. Then all these people will be right.

Until then, there will always be people who think that Over the Hedge is a Disney film, that Pirates of the Carribean is at Universal, that Microsoft puts out Acrobat, and that Superman is published by Marvel.

Bruce (not Amy - she's posting elsewhere)

Last year when we came back from our trip to Orlando my bosses wife insisted that we could have gotten tickets to all of WDW and the Universal Parks and that they were right by each other. I argued until I finally gave up.

What surprises me is when people on the DIS do it. I know we're all fallible, but it still surprises me! :)

Ooh and amy4bruce, its been like that for a while :teeth: Almost everything in the US is owned by either Disney, GE, News Corp., or Time Warner lol
