Why do so many people do this?

Why do so many people make reservations knowing that there is a really good chance they won't be able to go. It is extremely rude. MY family has been trying to make reservations for months at Fort Wilderness, but we have only got a few of our days because of these people. When these people finally decide to cancel, we will have to fight all the people that have decided to go at the last minute. It really isn't fair. WAIT TO RESERVE UNTIL YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think your frustration with getting ressies is making the situation seem worse than it is.
keeo calling, rarely have we ever not gotten what we were looking for.
worse case scenario is you sleep in the FW parking lot :rotfl:
all things being equal I would rather be there than at home :goodvibes

Most of the time, people think that they actually ARE going when they make the reservations. But, many times, things happen that are out of our control, so we have to cancel. (losing job, having to switch vacation days, etc, etc.)

I'm sorry that you're having a rough time trying to get your dates. But, keep trying - it will work out! :teeth:

Why are you assuming that people are making reservations that they don't intend to keep. It is quite possible that the campground is really full. We have arrived a day early before and were unable to check in until the next day because the campground was truly at capacity. I guess you can hope that someone does have a change in plans and then you may be able to get reservations. It cerainly is the nicest campground that we have ever stayed at.

Good luck.

Deb

What days are you looking for? :confused3 When I made my reservations last Jan for this Dec, I had every intention of showing up, first time I may not be able to keep them. I had no idea the school would be starting 2 weeks later than normal and then try to make up days by shortening their Christmas vacation. Once I am sure there will be no way of going, I will be on the phone cancelling so someone else can sign up. Good luck!

Before you get too upset over people making reservations that they are unable to keep, you need to be aware of the reasons. Last year I was forced to cancel our fall camping reservations at the last minute. Why? BECAUSE I WAS DEPLOYED BY THE U.S. ARMY FOR OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM AND GIVEN ONLY 2 WEEKS NOTICE. You might also take a look at when you want to go. Are you trying to book during a peak time? More often than not, when people complain of not getting the number of days they want, it is because they are trying to book over Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. Try booking off season, if possible.

And God Bless YOU for that!

First of all, I was not trying to accuse anyone here. I was just venting. Sorry if I offended anyone. Losing a job or being deployed by the army are of course more than understandable reasons for cancelling. What got me so annoyed was that I was in my local disney store the other day and overheard 2 women talking. I actually heard one of them say that she has about a 1 in 100 chance of getting to go. She just booked at the campground in the hopes of getting her husband to change his mind about thier summer vacation. The other woman seemed to think this was a really good idea.

By the way, ftwildernessguy, I would like to thank you for serving our country. You make us all proud.

In defense of OP, I have a "friend" that annoys me to no end with her endless Disney planning. She has NEVER gone to WDW in the 10 years I have known her, yet she continually plans/reserves rooms etc. Last year, she went so far as to book her room AND order MVMCP tickets (pre-paid, of course). Well, we attended the MVMCP an extra time with her four tickets that she was unable to sell (we had taken her daughter in the past and paid for ALL her admissions, etc., so I didn't feel guilty). She is still happily planning vacations that she has no intention of taking.

For the record, I do understand all legitimate reasons for cancellations ...... stuff happens. I just think the original problem that was posted is more prevalent than people think.

God Bless you and your family. Thanks a million for your service and sacrifices for our country!

Try booking less than a week in advance in july.. nearly impossible. We got to stay one night on site, and had to go off property the next night. This past trip this past weekend, I called a week in advance and got two nights without a problem, and half the camp was full.
It's got, what over 2,000 sites?
It's kinda scary how 2,000 families are camping in the middle of july.

Ughh... this is frustrating.
I don't have the internet at home, so I use it here at the library.
But every time the talk of a disney trip comes up, I call disney to get quotes on rates. And I guess it's the fact that I'm using a cell phone, or they can't hear me. But twice now, they've tried to book me for the wrong dates. I even put a deposit down once and she had the wrong dates. It took like two weeks for the credit back on my card.
And I hate it when I know I won't be putting a deposit down and they still put a reserve on it, and send me a letter in the mail for various dates. I always tell them I don't have a credit card right now to put the deposit down, and our dates change frequently. And it's so frustrating telling them all my information, all I asked for was a rate quote.

We are looking still for one day right in the middle of a two month stay at the campground. We started needing eleven separate days. By calling every week since mid June, we have been able to get all but one so keep trying - there's no place like it and more and more folks are discovering the secret! pirate:
