Why do people think that the rules apply to everyone but them?

What's interesting is that just the other week, there were people talking about cops and laws around schools, and it was being called a "trap" just to fill the coffers of the cities...hmm.

These people should test their (asinine) theory by NOT violating any of the parking/traffic laws around the schools; if property taxes then go up, they were right. If nothing changes - well, duh! Do ya* THINK maybe the police were doing their jobs, enforcing the law????????????????

off topic, but the handicapped post reminded me... there are some maternity parking spots around here, which is really nice to have up front when you have three kids, and a large belly and every step hurts. All the spots were full and I had to park at the very end of the lot and waddle my way up to the store. By the time I got out, I felt like my hips were going to fall off. I see a guy come out of the store and get into his empty vehicle, in the maternity parking. Yeah, dude, I would really like to see that baby of yours. Better yet, see you dialate to 10cm!

Problem is, handicap parking spaces are regulated by law. Maternity parking spaces are "merely" a courtesy (please don't think I agree with that!)

We have a resource police officer that is permanent at my dd's middle school. He directs dropff & pickup.

If you cross him, he walks over to give you "the talk".

Our pickups and dismissals are flawless.

I HATE when people park in the fire lane. That, "its only for a minute" mentality does not make sense to me. So if I rob your house, but I'm only in there for a minute, its okay?

We have major parking issues at DD6's school. Not actual issues, you understand--the school is adjacent to a large parking lot in a park. Plenty of parking there, and maybe an extra 30 feet of walking. Really, not a big deal. Except a large number of parents couldn't be bothered, so they park illegally, blocking parts of the school parking lot--they'll park right under the "No Parking" sign and everything. I don't get it--I'd be sympathetic if there was no parking available, but there is. I guess I missed the day when they were selling the bumper stickers that say, "My child goes to Snowflake Elementary, so I can park like a jerkface!"

I work in an elem school and hold the stop sign for the crosswalk. Can't tell you how many close calls we've had.

To answer the OP's original question...these people are sociopaths. They don't think the rules apply to them. IMHO

They are the same parents that post on message boards mad because their snowflake got in trouble for disrupting class or that their snowflake wasn't offered extra credit to make up for the 4 F's on their tests or their snowflake had too much homework so they did it for them or their snowflake can't walk a 1/2 block to school because they might get abducted by someone.

I think they should outlaw parents picking up kids or at least if you are caught violating the pick up procedure you are no longer allowed to drive on school property to pick up your child.

Just a tip for all parents--having lived down the street from a school for many years, if you get to school 5 minutes AFTER school gets out, you won't have to wait in line and your child is perfectly safe.

People are crazy at pick-up at our school too. There is a carpool line beside the school and then buses pick up in front. There is no stopping or parking in the bus lane, but inevitably someone will drive past all the people waiting in the carpool line and pull up in the bus line, frantically motioning for us to bring their child over. Um....no, you need to get in the carpool line like everyone else.

Pick up at the high school is different. There are two lanes in the front of the school. Technically, you are supposed to pick up in the lane by the curb, but there are no signs saying that. Seems like the parents that are there early are the ones whose kids take 15 minutes to get out of the school. I have been guilty of driving past those cars and pulling to the curb in front of them to get my son, who is standing there ready 2 minutes after the bell rings. Don't know if that is considered wrong, since I am still pulled over by the curb. Some people do drop off and pick up in the other lane and that always holds things up. They do that so they can get right in front of the entrance--I guess so their special snowflake doesn't have to walk.

Every day I come home from picking up DD fuming. Today, as an example, some rocket scientist honked at children crossing IN THE CROSSWALK on school property to get out of her way.

This is not an isolated incident. I wish we did have cops stationed and giving out tickets.

The school I teach at walks the students across a major street for recess. They cross at a light (obviously when it's only green), but there's one of those right turn yield lanes (where you don't have to stop, but pedestrians have the right of way). There are always at least 3 teachers with a group of young kids, and one stands in the middle of the lane while the children cross, with the right of way, in the crosswalk. There are always people who will honk or gesture or yell, as if the person in the middle should move. What will that accomplish? It won't change the fact that there are 20 4 year olds in the crosswalk. Will you run them over?

My son pulled a car going 17 mph over the posted 40 mph speed limit, and the driver told him that she knew she was speeding.
