Why do people hate MVMCP

Are the crowds that bad? We went three years ago and it was really nice. We had a ball. We are going again this year on a sunday night 12/5. How bad are the crowds generally on sunday night for it?

Since you went it has gotten really expensive and really crowded. They have also cut back on the decorations. Last year they did not even have up the tree on Main Street, they waited until after they had recorded the Christmas Parade. So many parties missed out on this very special tree.

Actually, the tree appears next to the castle until the parade taping is done and then they move it to the Main Street location. At least that's the way it used to be.

Not sure about Sundays, but being that it is still early in December for you it might not be too bad. I am a veteran of several parties and I have noticed a large increase in the attendance over the years. That, coupled with the ever increasing $$ tag without anything new appearing and it has somewhat soured our yearning to attend another one. Maybe as we get close to our trip date with the holidays just around the corner my mind might change, but as of now we have no plans on attending the party this year, nor did we do so on our last trip back in '08.

I'm thinking that to save costs last year, they just didn't put it up at all until the parade taping was over, saving the cost of the effort to move it.

Okay, Ill bite. I don't have srong feelings one way or the other, but I have minor feelings against them. We've been, we enjoyed it, but I don't feel the need to go back. Truly, I've only been to the CP, but sort of don't feel the need to do any of the other parties. (They discontinued the Princess one) I do feel there are WAY too many parties. They aren't special if they aren't rare; they are mostly just a money grab.

Mostly, it's about balancing cost choices. (costs, hours, weather) I've been to WDW many times, and party tickets are quite a bit extra to shell out. If you are visiting for the week, and there are multiple parties, that means you kind of can't go to MK in the evening that whole week. It's mildly annoying. You get less for your money so to speak (until you consider low room rates) Instead of October this year, we chose July. We had late night hours with low crowds in the parks all week without having to pay extra. Of course I say this as someone who's been to WDW many times over.

I also remember E-ride nights. Compared to those, the parties really do feel like little more than a money suck. If folks don't go, then they will reduce the number of parties. You'll get more regular hours included with your regular ticket - OR - just MAYBE - at some point, WDW will consider bringing back e-nights. For $10 a person, you got extra hours in the MK- with promised low crowds. They weren't heavily advertised, and most folks didn't know what they were, so it was kind of an insider thing almost. That gave them a little extra magic, and the small price made e-nights a real bargain. I'd gladly pay $10pp for an e-night again!

I dont hate it, I just dont think it is worth it for the $$

For me, it is because I remember what it USED to be. There have been so many cutbacks along with larger crowds and higher ticket prices that it is just no longer worthwhile for us.

Yup, not worth it NOW to me. I had an excellant time in 2005, I couldnt have been more excited to go in 2006. Since then its gone up in $ and down in what it offers. AFTER MNSSHP it is a let down to go to MVMCP and how little it offers.

I've been going every year since 2003....every year. And every year it gets more and more expensive. And for the past 5 years or so, they have taken stuf away, while increasing the price. We always go the first week or so of Dec. There used to be a huge gathering of Disney fans that went at the same time...we all got together and had meets and much fun. We would all do to the same party so as to be with internet friends that we saw only once a year. Well, Disney figured that one out and took away all AP and DVC party pass discounts for the time frame that we were there every year.
They took away the free photo you used to get, they took away the special party buttons, they took away shows (Mickey's NIght Before Christmas for instance), they really cheapened the party merchandise and then decreased what they offered. Add to that the fact that they started selling more and more of the passes and now you have much larger crowds than ever before. You really do have to hang out until past 10pm to find any short lines anywhere.

Don't get me wrong. I love the parties, and I'll be going to one in Dec. But, for the price, I just don't think I'm getting my money's worth anymore.

Not last year..They didn't put it up at all till after parade taping day
