I too use the elipses as pauses.
The text style of status speak does not really bug me. My kids give me a hard time for the time it takes me to respond to a text because I don't have a smart phone, I'm particular about grammar and spelling, mind you, I did not say I had perfect grammar or spelling just that I try my best to be accurate and often that takes awhile one letter at a time.......... (now see, this is a pause for the reader to reflect on what I just wrote)
What does bug me is people who use text speak in their oral speech. When someone says OMG instead of oh my goodness/gosh etc. Or says LOL, thats a weird one to me. You are either laughing or you are not, duh I am standing here, I can tell.
