Why do people do this?!

Is it annoying to other people when we go on splash mountain and scream when we go down the big hill where they take the picture? I do not want to be one of *those* people.

I'd feel like a jerk if we'd been ruining the ride for others :guilty:

I think this is fine. It's a genuine reaction at a totally appropriate time. It when they are screaming at the non-scary parts (like the after the big drop part that is happy and not scary) that it gets so irritating.

A large group of girls did this on TOT to my family and they thought they were so cool. Well they had talked about posing for their picture in line...they ended up in the 2nd row behind my husband and family. My entire family put their arms up on the ride (do everytime anyway) but they happened to block the loud obnoxious kids behind them and ruined their picture. It was sweet. I also get extremely annoyed when people do this. I dont get it. Just want to smack them.

Wow ... that's just as immature and annoying as the screamers.

If it was unprovoked, then yes I would agree with you. But in this instance, it was a case of what goes around comes around. The group of girls had screamed and ruined the ride experience for Krissy marissy and her family, so they were simply returning the favor.

First off, I am Tinkerbelle's mom - screaming is annoying but I have not posted that it ruined my ride that was another poster.

Secondly - the picture is at the begining of the ride not the end. The ride had not yet been entirely ruined to warrent an immature response like this. The girls had discussed thier pose in line and this family purposely ruined that - before the enitre ride had been ruined.

I think both behaviors, screaming and ruinign photo, are immature and annoying no matter the justification of either party.

I had a similar experience on INDY once. Wrecked the ride. Probably been on the ride 1000 times and had to find some way to make it "fun"

I didn't understand it that way. Maybe Krissy can clarify.

I think of it more as a lesson in kharma

No! Please don't feel bad about parts like THOSE! I scream on the plunges in Splash, on some of the turns in Indy and Space, etc. If you saw my picture after Splash, you'd see my eyes clenched closed and my mouth wide open from screaming! It's the people that scream to be *funny* right out of the gate and during the smooth parts that get me.

Yep, I agree with the PP and others... It's a TOTALLY different thing to scream when your going down a drop, or something similar. No worries. :goodvibes

I really hate it when people do this.:headache: My thought is, for a lot of people who save up all year to travel here, the locals (not all locals are this way) who come here frequently think it's no big deal.

This is exactly it. It's totally locals who have been on it 1,000 times and are just there for kicks. I say this as someone who is a local, and you are right, it's not everyone. I think it's just the world we live in: selfishness rules.

If DL served liquor I would have thought for certain they were drunk, and guess I can't rule it out completely!

Young locals will sneak in liquor all the time, it's pretty easy.

And Haunted Mansion is always a popular ride late at night to get high on. Once, some teens in a buggy next to me on a very empty Haunted Mansion started smoking once they left the station. They came prepared with air freshener. CMs don't really care, it happens all the time on HM.

Ugh.. that just ruins the Disney magic. :sad2:

Ok I have to jump in on this one too with something that drives me crazy! When DH and I (then he was DFi) were in Disneyland in May 2008 we decided to ride Nemo at night. There were two couples in front of us (probably late teens) who decided that everytime we stopped in line they would make out. Serious PDA: Along with kissing, the guys would also grab their girls bottoms and other areas (trying to keep it somewhat clean here). We got so sick of seeing this and the couple behind us (probably in their 40s) were tired of it too. We made occassional comments back and forth to each other, but basically we had the same feelings: Disneyland is a place for families. We know it is late at night (after 10:00) and a lot of the little ones are sleeping, but seriously! Get a room! We were both biting our tongues not to say anything because I knew we would be sitting right beside them in the subs, and you know how close you are there!

So a little peck on the lips here and there is fine with us. We give each other the occassional kiss while waiting in line, but come on!!! I felt like I was watching an R rated movie at times!

OK, I am done now, just had to vent! Yes it still bothers me to this day! We go to Disneyland to escape things like that, although I know we can't completely escape some behaviors. We just have to deal with them in a civil way and be more mature than the immature parties. :goodvibes

The first thing I thought of when I started to read this thread, that no one has mentioned, is the effect the bloodcurdling screams have on a child riding the ride for the first time!

I go to a lot of trouble to coax my kids on a dark ride for the first time -- explaining how it is spooky/fun, not scary; that Disneyland would never want to hurt us; bribing/threatening the older kids not to make it sound scarier than it really is. Then BOOM -- one obnoxious adult can make it seem like we're all doomed once we start the ride, at which point it's too late to take a hysterical child off! And good luck with the next dark ride ...

If someone had spent the whole line talking about screaming and I didn't want to be with them, I'd ask the CMs to put us in a different vehicle even if it meant waiting a little longer, because it's going to be hard to get someone to stop once you're on a ride.

Agreed! :thumbsup2

How frustrating and rude! Manners do seem to be left behind for some when they are out and about. I hope the rest of your visit was much better.

On our last trip we got into a great spot nice and early for the electrical parade so I could video it.... after the parade had started 3 girls in their early teens barged their way through to the front right beside us and proceeded to whistle...the kind of whistle where you stick your fingers in your mouths and screech.... the whole freaking time. I swore to myself, the next time that happens I am going to get up into whoevers face it is and say something. All of us nice polite people who don't want to ruin it for anyone are too polite to say anything and cause a scene...they are certainly not worried about that!! and the scene is already being caused.....Hubby is more subtle...he would barge right in front of them and block their view with his 6' 230lb. self.... probably "bump" into them a few times too.... I wish he'd been with me then! He "dealt" with a group of tourists obviously from another country one time.... another similar scene with us getting into position along with everyone else nice and early for the Christmas parade, as the parade starts along come this group with their cameras and their very loud voices standing in front of all of us! hubby got up went over to them and said with much motionong of his hands.... move along! they tried the "huh" looks...like we don't speak english.... don't know what you are saying.... we are going to do what we want anyway.... he got a bit more aggresive and they did move along. The people on either side of us were very grateful for him moving them along...

I So agree with you. DS is 8 but still working through fear on spooky rides. Nearly every time we get him ready for HM we get a screamer in the stretching room! Really frustrating. Almost had him convinced to try ToT, but so glad I didn't because we were stuck with a screamer there (during the entire Twilight Zone movie) - he would have run screaming from the building if he had been with us!

Sadly some people are into it only for themselves. Everyone else be damned. This would be a good time to have a water bottle 'accident'. :rolleyes1
Years ago we were on PoC when a bunch of teens started rocking the boat side to side. Just as I yelled at them to "Knock it off",the boat stopped and rose up slighly. Then the voice of God spoke,"You 'will' stop that now". The rest of the boat clapped at that. :thumbsup2

Yes, that's behind my post about the HM screamers. Sigh. DS was still small enough that I felt he wouldn't be overly worried about the actual ride...but other human beings behaving as though they were terrified did it. He didn't want to go on something that grown adults (or rather "adults") were so terrified of, and we had to take the chicken exit.

FYI, chicken exit at HM? Longer, darker, and scarier than the dang ride itself. We were both in tears by the time we exited, and it puts you out behind where the HMH FPs are given out, which is a place I'd never been in, so I was still a bit lost.

That was when DS was 2, and although he says he's going on HMH on this trip, I'm not holding my breath.

We are, however, bringing earplugs to dampen the noise. I remember the HMH stretching room is a bit louder than the normal stuff, and I want it to be as easy on him as possible.
