Why do on-site hotels have such big price fluctuations

depending on the day and time you check? I have been checking the website often because we are going in March. We have reservations at an off-site hotel but are hoping the prices on-site goes down so we can switch! Grand CA stayed consistently at $1300 for the three nights we are going, then yesterday it was $2500, now today it is $1172. What in the world is going on???!!!!

Like most hotels, their prices fluxuate based on demand.

I haven't noticed that with Paradise Pier or DLH. I've been watching them for a couple of months. I don't usually check them on a daily basis though. But they are are the same price today as they were Monday, about two weeks ago, and I think I checked on the 1st for the time when I plan to go.

There are things to look for. I'm not sure if you qualify but there are several discounts rolling around. I know those are based on availability, so if you do, maybe you got lucky and someone cancelled their trip. Or the room view changes the cost of the room. Also it could be the dates are wrong. Sometimes web browsers reset themselves midway through a load. Don't ask me why...

The other day I was looking at prices just for the heck of it, and was quoted $3000 odd for PPH and $2000ish for DLH and a tad more for the Grand (I think I had dates for 7 nights? cannot remember) anyway this must have been a glitch or something because being quoted more for the 'lower end' hotel (and yes, I checked it wasn't concierge or anything, just a standard room) compared to the other ones just didn't seem right. I tried again later that day and the prices were more in line with what it should have been.

Sometimes it's best to call the hotel directly and see what they can quote you.
