I was reading this site about all these people buying glow necklaces for Disney.....why? We (me, DH, DS 8 & DS 9) are going early April for our first ever trip and I have got soooooo much info from these discussion forums!! Thank you all sooooo much!!! :cheer2:

The $1 glow necklaces at Target kept DD from begging for a light up object at night. She was so excited to wear it in the dark she never asked for any of the expensive light up toys they were selling all over WDW.

Exactly. We bring them and the kids are always thrilled with them. The light up glow stuff they sell in the parks is frankly junk, and expensive too. I buy a tube of glow sticks and keep the around the house. They are also fun for any night time sports events, 4th of july, camping, or just for the heck of it on a summer night.

This is my opinion on the whole glow necklace/ light up twirly thingy... :wizard:

While I know how much glow sticks cost from fundraisers I have done at work and through my childrens school, and what a park up Disney puts on their glow sticks my feeling is - Our kids are only young once! Every twirly thing my boys have purchsed over their past few trips to WDW are still in the toy box and get used often ( I think they were $6 each). We did not buy one every day while at WDW - They knew they only had one choice. Its a good idea to stash it in the bag as you leave the hotel if you know you will be away for the night shows or bring along the store bought ones from Traget. Either way you will be lugging somehting somewhere. We certainly got our moneys worth, I just changed the batteries in them a few weeks ago. pixiedust:

I am not a frivilous parent and try to get the most for my money. I try to stay away from needless things or that are junk. The memories I have of our trips with my parents to the Ice-capades as kids are priceless. We were given those New Age (or so they were at the time) fiber optic flash light things - the memories are irriplaceable. Even now when I see the bright lights moving about and whipping around, I get a warm happy feeling and that all comes flooding back. I can only hope my children are able to do the same thing when they get older.

Personally, I think the glow necklace is a great idea, although I agree that the $5 - $6 Disney charges for the light up wands is very reasonable. (especially by Disney standards! LOL)

DS9 is getting a little too old for spinning light up toys and we have one from the circus a few years back. We have 3 or 4 light-up sword things in his closet already. He does enjoy the light up necklaces, though, and I have a handful for our next trip. It keeps him occupied (sort of) while we wait for Fantasmic or Spectro. I also read here on the DIS that they make decent night lights back in your hotel room, which I found to be true! We hung them on the towel racks at Pop so we could find our way to the bathroom at night. :)

Where are you guys buying these at ? I have read that some people like to give them away as well but i would think that would get expensive !

I'm not giong for about 2 years now.. but sometimes The Disney Store has GREAT deals on the "twirlies"... do the parks mind if you bring outside items in? I know they check through bags.. I wasn't sure what was and wasn't allowed in...

We used them for my DD5 during the day. They were GREAT for all the dark rides. (You don't realize how many rides are DARK until you go w/ a small child) The necklace gave just enough light that she could see herself but not enough to bother anyone else.

We got ours at Walmart and I've also seen them at the Dollar Tree.

I have bought mine at the dollar tree, you get 15 in a tube for a buck, they are bracelet size or can be hooked together for a ncklace. They also have a light up wand stick that has on off button, some are fiber optic and some are changing colors, I bought those for all the kids in our familey who went camping last year, they loved them and lasted all week.

I have some from Dollar Tree, I also have some from the "Dollar Spot" at Target. Both places are seasonal for glow items, but they usually have them around July 4th.

I bought mine on eBay. The cost was just pennies per necklace. I love to give them out to kids as we're waiting for the fireworks or SpectroMagic Parade. It also makes it easier to keep track of your kids in the dark when the crowds are leaving after the fireworks. EPCOT is especially dark after IllumiNations is over. The glo necklaces help you to spot your child a little easier.

I bought mine on ebay and I think they were $.01 and $12.95 shipping for 100. We handed a few out and my guys had a ball linking them together. My problem was I kept forgetting to take them with us. We bought 2 of the spinning things. It's also good to know that they will replace them for you in the parks if the batteries run low or out. We got the one we bought last year replaced this year.

This past Thanksgiving, I brought them for the entire gang. DH, DSIL,
DBIL, 3 DN's all teenagers. Us, women wore them at Epcot for Fantasmic. I purchased them from Dollar Tree.

We had a blast!!! :Pinkbounc

If you need to budget your money - buy from the Dollar Tree.

I usually do a search on Ebay for glow sticks - just got 100 for 99cents, and 7$ to ship. Cheapest I have found them yet!

They are pretty decent ones too, although there is this red/orange one (dark tubes) that just never seems to glow as well as the others - and this seems to be the case from anyone i have ordered them from. The blue is out of this world though! We are bringing the tube and the connecters with us on our trip...Gonna be some sparkly nights for us!

Another good place to order from is illuminationz.com. The more you buy the less cost per item. They are high quality and last a long time. My teen and young ones love them!

I got ours at Target from the dollar bin at the front of the store for the same reason Linda0706 got some...not to bother others and keep the 1 and 2 yr old from a nightime flip out. Fearing the stroller may be a dark place at the NSSHP in Oct. You get what you pay for, most of ours did not work. I did also buy a tiny Hello Kitty flashlight, in case. Never need them, too much to marvel at to care it was dark for the 2-yr-old and the baby was sleeping.

Here's another vote for www.illuminationz.com
I bought 300 bracelets from them before our last trip and handed them out to nearby kids during the evening events & bus rides.
Kids love 'em and it's a great conversation starter.
