Why do I get irritated...

a friend asked about Disney advice, websites, discounts etc. on their FB page recently.

I of course, POST a Disney lovers response, drop a few DIS references in etc and then the posts that follow mine are like, no you should do this, you should do that. Now, maybe the people that are posting are DISers (not thinking so) but when they start posting thoughts contrary to mine...I start getting all bunged up...like they're questioning my expertise:) I had to post this to my friend's page (image below) so that she knew, I KNOW what I'm talking about. #DisneyPlannerEgo.

Do you have similar experiences?

I understand where you're coming from, though I don't get irritated at any sound advice. I mean, there is more than one good way to handle certain aspects of touring and I'm always open to that. I do not like to see people giving out just plain wrong information, though I myself have been guilty of that when something had changed that I was not aware of. Reading here of course helps keep one up to speed.

I'm sort of kidding about being irritated and am with you, good advice is good advice, but i must be paranoid because immediately, I was like "hold on"...lol, hence my #DisneyPlanner"EGO"...i might need to take it down a notch.

Back when we were planning our first trip with a 3-year old I remember someone posted that we should go on It's Tough to be Bug. Really, out of 4 parks you pick a ride that people say scares ALL kids?

Everyone thinks that their way to Disney is the best way. I no longer offer planning advice to friends/family other than do not pay rack rate, get to the park before it opens and have a touring plan of your must do's but be flexible.

I get irritated when Disers call AK a half day park. And I got irritated when I went on about how awesome the AK food options were and then someone else said DHS has the best food. It's irrational, everyone has their own tastes and opinion .... (But AK is a 2 day park and has the best food!)

When it comes to subjective things, like food or favorite attractions, I certainly don't have a problem what someone prefers.

What does bug me is when people offer advice about straightforward things that is just plain wrong.

I am in a very active Disney Facebook group, and had someone insist a couple weeks ago that she had gift cards loaded directly on her magic band. No presentation of facts could sway her, so after a while I just gave up.

There have been several other such discussions, but overall it's a fun group. I just need more of you all there to back me up sometimes. Hah.

Heh. I am defensive over AK too! Lovely park. My favorite behind MK.

Wow, I love that picture! Great argument for rope dropping!
What time of year was this picture taken?

Unless they are giving wrong factual info such as you can take a boat from MK to Epcot, does not bother me. Everyone's opinion is just that.

This was the last day of Christmas break 2014/2015. We had scored 3 extra fast passes this day as well because of an issue that had happened 2 days prior. Amazing what you get when you say "I've got a problem, can you please help me". We ended up with 6 extra FP's and reinstatement of the ones we already had. Ah, CM Lee, our hero!

I agree with you, I actually have handed her off to Teresa (at least I hope she took my advice and reached out to Tess).

My Disney advice is no different than advice on anything. If people ask my opinion, I'll give them an answer. They can take it or leave it, doesn't matter to me - that's what asking advice is all about. I don't care if they weight out pros and cons vocally, doesn't matter...but don't ask me the same thing a second time.
Example: "I was thinking about going to Disneyland with my 18 month old and 3 year old."
Me: "Disney is a very long day and overwhelming place. I don't think the 18month old will remember it and the three year old will remember highlights. I think 6yrs old is a perfect age. Just thinking of the long lines, all the crabby toddlers I see or all the dads carrying their three year olds around." (I'm not saying don't do it - it's not my place to, I just think if you're taking your kids to Disneyland, don't expect them to do it all and be happy through out the experience.)

A week later they come back. "I've checked with some people, they took their three year old and the three year old loved it, they had a great time. So...what do you think?"

I already TOLD them what I think.

Awesome picture!!

All my family, friends, facebook friends, etc know we spend lots of time, staying all different ways at WDW. They know we know our stuff and a great source of information. I look at that if they truly wanted helpful information they would message me direct and ask - and quite a few do. If I see someone post on FB asking for help rather than ask someone they know, knows .... I look at it more that they are just telling everyone they are going and not really looking for help so I post nothing. Or I might post "Oh one of our favorite places, have fun!" as a reminder that they can ask me direct.
