so a photographer came and took pics of the kids gymnastics, I have one on the team and the other just does recreational classes. so anyway, the individual pics are cute, I am buying one of those, the group pics are cute too, but I am feeling frugal.
the individual pics are $10 each so $20 total
and the group pics are $15 each so if i buy both $30 total. I don't want to spend $50 on gym pictures.
is that bad? LOL
I am definitely getting their individual pics, but I feel like i "should" get the group pic too.
mom guilt

of course I ask hubby he says don't get any save all your $$ LOL

I would feel guilty if I did buy any of those. Take your own.

DD is in dance and I never buy the class picture. Never feel guilty. Just personal preferance. I don't even buy her individual picture from the photgrapher that comes to the studio. I bring her there for the class picture, then take her to either Sears or JCPenney to have her individual picture taken. Cheaper and you get way more pictures! :thumbsup2

Just buy what you want. I would just get the kids together after practice one day and do a candid pic. Sure would be a lot cheaper.

There is NO way I would ever spend $50 for 4 pictures. We all have digital cameras these days and can get printouts. With the astornomical prices of kids activities, I would not shell out that much for a picture.

I'd buy the group picture and go to Penny's for the individual ones. You can usually find coupons for $3.99 per sheet. You could take both daughters and have their pictures done individually and together.

Lol, my DH would say the same thing.:rotfl: I think the photographers do that to play into "mommy gulit." When my DD was little the Picture People would take all those extra shots & bring them out to sucker you into buying them. Who wants to leave behind adorable pics of their kids, right?

I wouldn't get the group pic. Chances are in a few years, you won't remember who any of those people are anyway.;)

ok, I feel better already! I was feeling like I was being too frugal!

I think I will just buy the individual ones and that is it. that is still way over priced in my opinion. we could go to jc penney or sears and get way more pics you are right.
the 5x7 are $10 each
and 4x6 are $8 each
ouch

or I could just take my own like I usually do, I don't usually pose them except for at the end of year show

Put me into the category of not buying the studio photos. My DD's are in dance and I alway let them have their pics taken just in case someone wants to have a group shot. But then I take them to another studio to purchase them. I can get a lot of different poses for the same price as one in the studio. I have also taken my own with the digital camera. Last year we went to a park with a beautiful fountain in the background. This year we used a neighbors house who has a gorgeous tropical garden. I have to admit, that I like some of the ones we took ourselves better than the professional ones. The kids are more relaxed and we have our own custom background:)

2 DDs in dance, just one single 5x7 was $12 so 1 of each and 1 together was $36, I was not going to pop the $20 each for the class pic AFTER I knew it was in the program (that I had to buy for $12 x 2)

So no, don't feel bad.

I probably would feel guilty too. Stand behind the photographer & snap the same picture he/she does.

Just like I don't understand why people do photopass at all. :confused3 We take our own camera, take tons of pictures & have no problem asking guests or CMs to take our group picture with our camera. Why on earth pay Disney even more for something you can take yourself?

My mom still talks about back in the day when she would take us to Roses to have our pictures made. Back then, they would print out all the pictures and you buy what you want. Well, my mom made the mistake of asking the photographer what he did with the photos she didn't buy. He told her he BURNED them, LOL. So my mom bought ALL the pictures from that time on. She couldn't bear to think of our pics being burned.:rotfl2:

We only do the photopass if we do a share so it is like 20$. I think it is well worth that or else I don't get many family pictures with everyone in them. I don't really like asking other people to use my camera but even if I do I wouldn't want to do it like a 100 times like a get with the photopass people.

Oh and I never buy class or group pictures. They typically are not that great and really will we even know who those other kids are in like 10 years. My kids go to a big school so the kids in his class are never the same from year to year.

DD & DS are in dance and on dance competition teams. I'd be bankrupt if I bought all the pictures. I usually buy the group of each class and then one individual one of them in their favorite costume.

Photopass is different than dance class pictures. If it wasn't for them, there would never be any proof that I visited WDW except for me saying I'd been.

The price are a little up but not bad for the photographer. That being said, I don't normally buy the "activity" photographers pictures. This is the first time I have ever and I got a Memory mate for $18. I didn't feel like bringing my camera. I do not buy school pictures, I do take them myself but always buy the class picture. It's a nice memory of who you knew back when.

I have had people friend me on facebook that I have in my own softball pictures from 20 years ago.

Please think about this before you do this. If you're going to be unobtrusive and not affect the lighting, etc., that's okay. But there are people who really gum up the works.

My DD14 has been in dance for years and this year she was in 5 different classes, so 5 different group shots -- plus the individual shots that go with. They only have so much time for each shot and some of the moms and dads who decide they will also take the group photos take extra time that we just don't have. There are even a few who want the group situated differently than the professional photographer has them arranged. Fortunately, the photographer put an end to that nonsense.

Usually my kids individual pics are only so-so but we like to get the group pics. In grade school they were with the same kids for 9 years and like to see how everyone changes. The same kids are also on the sports teams and in scouts so they are always together. My girls have group pics hanging in the rooms.

The part that bugs me is that every time their is a professional taking the pics we cannot purchase just the group or class pic. It is only available as part of a package or with the purchase of individual photos. Miminum cost of over $20 if you want to get the group shot.

Even daycare got into the act a few years ago and boy was I really ripped off then. One sheet (5x7 and some wallets) was $30. It was totally adorable but I wasn't going to be coerced into buying it until I found out we couldn't get a class photo without it. I expected great things with the group shot since they used so many props the with individual photo but the group shot was cruddy quality and just had the kids sitting on a group of chairs. Several were looking other directions and several were moving about. Total waste of money and I never purchased another from there again.

Please do not do this. Not only is it disrespectful to the photographers time and talent, but it could also mess up their strobes when the flash fires on your little point & shoot camera.

well we did photopass as a part of a share, so the cost was much more reasonable. But the difference w/ photopass pictures and your own, is that special effects can be added to photopass pics and you can edit on your own later when you upload your pics to your acct. So I think it's not comparing apples to apples. But if you don't care about any of the 'extras' then photopass may very well be a waste for you, but not necessarily someone else. Different strokes...:goodvibes

I have always bought my kids class pics from Kindergarten thru 5th grade (that's when they stop taking them around here). I guess we're lucky because they have only charged between $5 and $7 (last one was $7 I believe). Not a steal, but I think it's pretty reasonable. It was a 5X7 in a cardboard card style frame. I still have mine.
and around here, school pics are more costly because it's a school fundraiser and they get a sizable kickback from the photography company for orders.
Older DD is getting ready to enter her senior year. I'm not looking forward to Senior portraits. We got the postcard in the mail and the sitting fee alone (no pics) was like $55 or $60 :scared1: I'm trying to convince her that Sears is not such a bad place for senior portraits. ;) I really don't want to spend $300 or $400 for portraits, even though they're her senior pics. I just don't see the need. Am I wrong for feeling this way? :confused3

DD19 is a procrastinator so her senior pics were Sears - taken 2 days before the cut-off to be included in the yearbook. We didn't buy many pictures at all - only 2 or 3 poses and probably not more than 6 sheets total. I had coupons but was told they wouldn't accept them for senior portraits so we ended up spending over $300 even though we didn't buy much. As I remember, the minimum was like $175 for the sitting and two sheets.

Anybody who's thinking about using Sears to cut costs on senior pics should call them first to pin down prices. I wish I had b/c if I'd known what we'd get and how much it'd cost elsewhere, I'd have a made an appointment with the custom photographer a lot of the other kids used - or have made more effort to attend that sitting over the summer at the high school for the same cost or just slightly more.

Around here, when it comes to senior pics all bets are off at nearby photographers and the sky's the limit - even at Sears. Gosh, I've never felt so cheap as when I was talking to the girl at Sears that night, telling her we didn't need that whole expensive senior package. Thankfully DD19's pics weren't breathtaking so I didn't get caught up in the whole once-in-a-lifetime guilt she was trying to sell.

That said, we just paid $29 for the group and individual pic of DD8's lacrosse team. Did it last year too. And, as a dancemom for more than 15 yrs, I can honestly say we always buy the group pics of each number. For individual pics though we prefer those taken by the professional photgraphers set up at Nationals with their backgrounds and dance expertise, instead of against the wall in the dance studio after class on photo night. The way I figured it, saving the group pics of each dance took up less room and is appreciated longer than keeping all those old dance costumes in rubbermaid bins stacked on top of each other in the basement closet or attic...
