Why do disney cruises cost more than other cruise lines?

Easy way out when you you don't have a valid rebuttal?

LOL - You just don't get it, but if it makes you happy I will go for it. Before I do, can you tell me where you got your "common business sense"? Did you attend business classes at LSU?

The carnival magic is 2000(for our time frame) less for a ocean view suite vs a the deluxe family stateroom with verandah on the Fantasy. Both rooms are close to the same size. The Magic suite is probably 40 square feet larger. One leaves out of Galveston, and one leaves out of cape canaveral. They are both brand new ships. On cruise critic the reviews are about equal when comparing it to the Dream. 2000 can buy a lot soda. If people are cruising Disney for the free soda. All I can say is that is some expensive soda.

My apologies. I am not sure how I left you with the impression that free soda is high on the priority list when choosing who I cruise with. Quite the contrary. It does not even make the list when considering our next cruise. When we took our last Carnival cruise, I did not even buy the soda card and used it as an excuse to stay away from it for a few days.

You are right, 2000 does buy a lot of soda, but for me, 2000 also buys a better cruise experience. That is what matters most to me personally.

I'm an LSU sports fan. LSU is too much of a party school, but Loyola isn't. :rotfl:
Where'd you get yours?

So you are saying you took business classes at Loyola? I doubt that. If you must know, I have an accounting degree from Kansas State where I took numerous business courses.

I would get banned if I told you what I honestly thought of your "common business sense"!

No kidding. There really is no point. This is a fun board & I want to keep it civil, so going to have to quit replying to him. Obviously doesn't understand what he is talking about in this instance & not going to.

Sometimes in order to fill a ship, a cruise line will drop prices so much that they barely break even. They hope to recoup their expenses and then some by the money they take in from the casino, bars, shops, spa, alternative restaurants, shore excursions, etc. That is similar to a grocery store that lures you in with the "loss leader" items that are on sale - hoping that you'll also buy other items that aren't on sale.

So - not only does Carnival NOT build the price of the non-perishable soda can that you didn't buy into their cruise fare, but sometimes they make NO money on their base cruise prices until people purchase the extras.

Ok

I have done 8 DCL cruises
1 on RC 1 on NCL
NCL was by far the less expensive, it was out of boston so no airfare to west coast or airfare/drive to florida. With 4 or 5 no airfare is big saving. Also driving 45 minutes vs 18 hours is also big differenc.
I will never go on NCL cruise again. I am glad that wasn't my 1st cruise because it would have been my last. The boat was old dirty and the food was bad in regular dining areas. So for 3 nights I spend and extra $150 each night to eat in the french rest which was the only other choice on board. I would not go NCL cruise again if they gave it to me for free. Unless Rich Pampura was preforming then I may go for free but still would n't paid. I wish DCL would bring Rich back.
RC was good I like it better the DW did. Not as good for the kids but thats was in 2002 so the kids are all older so it wouldn't be as much of an issue.
One of my good friends goes RC all the time and loves it. I would do RC again.
The two best vacation I ever had were on DCL 15 night Pamana Cruise and 7 Night Alaska. But almost everything is better on Disney Food the shows treatment by the crew. Special things they do for as CC member. It is worth more I do most of my cruises on points have done cash. I will over pay for a cruise as much I would love to Holiday cruise it just too high. But then again what RC wants for those dates I will not paid.
Most likely not doing a 2012 Hope to do a back to back cruise in 2013 keeping my finers crossed business will be good and can afford it.

Well then how is disney 2000 dollars better. This thread has turned into soda wars. I am getting a larger stateroom, and the play area and pool look better than what was on the Dream. Pleas don't telll me disney has the best food of any cruise line because I will never go on another cruise again. We really enjoyed the Dream, but now that I have started shopping around I am shocked at the deals I can get on other lines.

Carnival also generally LOWERS their cost as the cruise date nears, and people can contact Carnival and get the difference as a credit to their onboard account!

You didn't think the Dream was worth the extra money. A lot of guests do. I don't think you will find anyone who can give you an answer that will make you think you were missing something and that's why you'd rather take a cheaper cruise.

If you'd just like to take issue with Disney's prices, then okay. A lot of folks have issues with Disney's prices.

The OP asked why Disney cost more than other cruise lines....and I think that asked for fairly simple responses....nothing like what's happened on here, with huge debates and nasty remarks.

The fact is that Disney IS more expensive, in most cases.

Of course, you'll find times when it's less expensive, but for the most part, it isn't.

Some people are willing to pay extra for Disney, and some people aren't.

Some people will have great experiences on Disney and won't want to try other cruise lines.
Some people will have great experiences on Disney (like me) but will still want to try other cruise lines, for a variety of reasons.

Some people will have bad experiences on Disney....**GASP**!!! Yes, it CAN happen. They may or may not want to try Disney again.

LUCKILY, THERE IS A PRODUCT OUT THERE FOR EVERYONE.

THERE IS NO POINT IN DEBATING WHICH ONE EACH OF US FEELS IS BETTER.....people are far too different for anyone to ever come around to another person's thinking, once their minds are made up.

Very well said! :thumbsup2:cheer2:

We have our first DCL booked for next July out of NYC. We've previously sailed on Carnival, RC, and Celebrity. We’ve looked at DCL many times in the past, but it’s always come down to being much more expensive than the other lines, especially when adding in airfare from NY. The only reason we’re doing DCL next summer is because they’re sailing out of NYC, so we save on the airfare. That being said, we have a category 9C cabin (no balcony), and it will be costing about $1,700 more than we paid last summer for the Carnival Miracle out of NYC (same duration, 8 nights), which went to PR, St. Thomas, and Grand Turk, and we had a balcony. We also looked at DCL next summer to Alaska, while simultaneously pricing out the same cruise on Carnival. Carnival, with a balcony, was about $2,500 to $3,000 cheaper than DCL.

Excuse me moderator, but where did you read that into my post. I liked the Dream so much I am going again in May. I was asking if it was better than other cruises. I don't know if it was worth the extra money I have never been on another cruise line. That why am asking the question. Is disney better or is it just more expensive. I never said I did not enjoy my cruise( other than the food). Now that I am starting to shop around I am starting to question the cost.
