Why do cats do this???

I get up and scoop out the litterbox. I take out the trash with the smelly litter and sweep up all of the litter that is on the floor. All during this time, cat is asleep. I walk into the living room and he BOLTS past me to use the litter box, scattering cat litter all over the floor again.

I've never had a cat that didn't do the crazy running around before and after the litterbox. I guess maybe the noise of you cleaning out the catbox woke the cat up and, just like you when you wake up, nature called urgently!

My cat did this all the time. I put less litter in the box it seemed to help quite a bit

My cat does this because he hates using a dirty litterbox. He just won't do it. He will wait until it is spotless before he uses it again. So once it's clean, in he goes.

Well, think of it this way. You are standing in line at WDW, waiting to use the restroom. The Cast Member is about to go in and clean it. She says, "Oh, go ahead. I can clean it after you use it." Which would you prefer? A toilet with the previous user's "calling cards" or a "freshly cleaned bowl"? So would your cat...

Matisse gets *really* happy when his litterbox is cleaned out for him. Monday's and Thursday's are the cats favorite days. He sits and waits for it. As soon as his box is clean he gives it a test run within 2 minutes of it being finished then runs out of there like his butt caught on fire. We think of it as his 'cat celebration potty dance'.
