Why Disney World Stinks....

1- They make going such a good deal that there's is no way you can pass it up ( free dining !)

2- There are so many details to work out before you go that months of your life are devoted to nothing else .

3- You finally get to go and you have the best week of your life.

4- THEN YOU HAVE TO GO HOME--BACK TO WORK--DEALING WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO CLUE-- HOUSE WORK-- PAYING BILLS!!!!!!

Disney world wouldn't stink nearly as bad if I never had to leave!

We've been back a week now and I'm slightly depressed as you probably noticed!

I agree. They just plain suck. They work us up for months at a time and then they have the nerve to make us leave! What nerve.

Yeah! We took our first family trip in April. When we got back I was bummed for a good month and then spent another 2 months trying to figure out how to get back asap. I FINALLY (mostly) got over my Disneyitis and a local airline put out such a good deal direct to Orlando that we are going back in January. I'm terribly excited about the trip, but already depressed about coming home!

In all seriousness, it is frustrating in some ways. It is such a good deal, as you say, but still very expensive. That inherent conflict between the high degree of value provided and the fact that many of us cannot afford as much of that value as we'd like is troubling at times. Also, that high price, although clearly worth it, sometimes drives us beyond your #2, to the point where we feel that we cannot gather enough control over what we'll experience to fully experience what we've paid for. It seems, sometimes, that the decision to visit WDW necessarily must be accompanied by a decision to take up yoga or other meditative practice, to deal with the stress!

But there is a bright side to coming home. You get to start all over again planning another trip. It's a vicious cycle. Some say i need to go to counceling over it

Don't get me started on this one. I am still in my euphoric state of planning being that my trip is still 2 months away. Luckily after this trip I will have one more to look forward to and start planning as soon as I get back. My real depression will kick in after that second trip, b/c it will probably be awhile until we go back again.

Oh, I hear you loud and clear!!! Our last day was Oct. 3, and I am so depressed! There is no way I can afford to go until next year, if then. We are aiming for 26 months from now, first week of Dec. 2007. How will I make it until then? I used to spend all my time on the DIS, and now it is hard to come here. I planned on posting all of my great reviews, but I haven't even managed to do many of those yet. Sigh!

I know, I'm pathetic! But vacations such as Disney force me to relax, forget about the rest of the world, enjoy devoting 100% of my time to my family, and not worry about bills, work, etc.. How awsome it was to have 144 hours with my DH, DS and DD! I missed my DH the first day back! I will admit, it was nice to sleep in different rooms than my kids when I got back, and they spent the first couple of days in their rooms playing with thier toys, but I could go next week in a heartbeat!

So I did come up with DH and my new retirement plan! Once the kids are off and married, we are going to sell the house and move to Disney! No, not just buy a house near Disney, but move to Disney! We can live in a moderate hotel, start with Coronado Springs, and when we get bored there, try another, for about $133 a day, and add $70 for the dining plan a day. No need for a car, no need to buy gas. No electric bills, or cable bills, and no housework. We'll each get a job as cast members, and with our minimal income, plus our retirement fund, and the money from selling the house, and add minor expenses, and assuming CM's get free admission to the parks, we can live there for about $250 a day! Of course, we could also look into the DVC, and maybe even a place in Celebration, although that would have us doing the housecleaning again

But, until then, I'll try to get back to my life here, and think about 2007...WDW will be turing 35, and so will I I'll bet WDW pulls out all the stops for that one!

I'm in the euphoric stage of planning now - we're going for a quick trip over Thanksgiving, 4 nights. Staying at the Dolphin. My DH and I have a name for this "stage." It's called "PD" which means Pre-Disney. It's a great phase. We don't, really we CAN'T, plan several months ahead due to the nature of our careers, so our PD period is typically 2-4 months. Sometimes less, once in awhile more. We went in July and we only planned 6 weeks out. As you can imagine, this means I HATE the Best Rate Program. But, I digress...

The planning is so exciting, and it is an expensive vacation so I think we all try to make it perfect. Like Bicker said to the point where we don't fully experience it. Then, it's over...in a flash. The cure is so simple though. Buy AP's and go 2-3 times a year. That's the only cure for this disease.

Oh - PD means Pre-Disney. We don't have a name for Post-Disney - it's just too darn depressing. But, if you think about it, if you go at least every 6 months or so, you're always in "PD."

I am in the deep depression stage RIGHT NOW. Back for 1 week. I just keep looking at our pictures over and over and over again. last night I watched the video again. So sad!

I fill part of the depression time scrapbooking our trip. Then, when I am lucky, I can start planning the next trip. Unfortunately, when our son starts college, it will be a long dry spell. Anyone have ideas of how to fill 4 to 5 years of withdrawal????

When I finally win the lottery , is to move to the Orlando area, just so that I can be close to my 3 favorite things in the world (other than the fam ) Which are WDW, USF, and Sea World. Everytime I go to WDW, I strongly consider moving to the area and me & DH could get jobs as park employees, or even work at a resort... I didnt get those pangs at USf or SW though...

Plan other people's trips!

No, I am not a travel agent. My friends all know about my Disney obsession and knowledge so as soon as they find out they are going they come to me for advice. I have spent the last few weeks helping my best friend plan her first trip for next weekend. Pulled out my maps, read everything I could on the DIS, researched MNSSHP, got her a discount on her hotel etc... She wants/needs a "commando" plan which I am very good at!

I have also done this for about 4 other people. The planning is half the fun so I figure I am getting 1/2 the experience of going! I don't get the fun of going, but also don't have the horror of having to come back!

She will send me all her photos and tell me all about it so I am going to live vicariously through her!


Boy, I was hoping the Nov-Dec discount would be enough to allow us to make a trip this year, but it is not to be. Maybe next year!

What really makes me mad is, they won't let you live there! Geesh, they'd have no trouble finding cast members to work for cheap if they would just let us live in the castle or in the rooms over the shops at the World Showcase in Epcot.

What sucks about Disney for me is that I could probably go on a different vacation, for less money as DH wants to do, BUT I know exactly what I'll get by going to Disney!! I know just how much fun I'll have, how many pictures I'll have, where I'll eat etc. It really is like an old shoe, or always ordering the same thing when you go out to eat (I'm guilty of this too) Maybe I should expand my horizons and try something new, but I like the old shoe. True the new one is pretty and shiny and maybe more of a lifetime experience, but the old shoe is pretty wonderful.

Disney sucks, it's like crack for some of us. I was perfectly happy before returning to Disney in '97 after a 19-year hiatus. WDW was this place that had the MK, two hotels, and a campground. I was single and went twice a year to various spots around the Caribbean, I was an island snob, visiting beautiful small islands, barefoot cruise, never a big tacky cruise ship or heavily touristed islands.
In '97 I got married and got a wonderful stepson in the bargain who was 10 and had never been to WDW. I sucked it up and planned our summer trip to crowded, tacky WDW because DS needed the experience. Saw the WDW site and booked our stay at POFQ at rack rate (139 + tax/ night, haven't paid that much for a room at WDW since). I got a hint that WDW was larger than what I'd last experienced.
We arrive at the resort and I find it OK and go along with the parkhopper passes that include water parks every day, not as plus options. Fall into the daily trap of morning park time, afternoon water park, and evening park time and found it .....Wonderful and though busy was relaxing. I didn't want to leave and could only think of when we could next return.
In the years since we've had another child and had to take other vacations with extended family and though I love them I miss Disney. I'm no more deranged than my in-laws who go to Lake Tahoe every year and wonder why my family would rather go to WDW. I'm planning our next trip for the end of August 06 that includes a cruise on a big tacky ship and couldn't be happier.
Yes Disney Sucks! I'm planning for my next fix.

We started planning out next trip right after we got home this summer. We kept saying "We can't go again next summer because the house needs to be worked on" Guess What...! We have a trip planned for next summer! YAY. It will be my first time at Polynesian so I am even more excited.! We usually stay at the Grand Floridian. My parents have been to Polynesian, but not me I can't wait!

I was very depressed after we got home. I just kept telling myself... "next year, next year, we are going again next year." I spent time on the dis and vmk and now I can't wait to go back!!!!!!

On our last day my DH was asking everyone, and I do mean everyone, that worked at Disney that he saw if they would adopt him. They would look at him like he was a crazy man. He would then stick out his lower lip, stomp his foot and say,"But I don't want to go home."

DH, DD and my parents have all decided that I need to plan our next trip. The funny part is that for our first trip I could not get anyone to help make decisions. Now they are all putting in orders for what they would like to do next trip, at least two years away.

I hear ya! I just got home on Wednesday and I'm trying to figure out how I'd be able to become a squatter at OKW. I too scrapbook my trips. What I did was I hit a bookstore before I left Orlando and got the new unofficial guide for 2006. I'm already planning next year. That really helps. This board is a lifesaver. BTW, some say I need therapy too!
