I built a church in Orlando last year and found this attitude to be pretty typical of Central Florida residents. Then generally can't stand the company that butters, or at least once buttered, their bread. It is somewhat understandable. Disney brought traffic, pollution, noise, development and tourists to Central Florida; of course, in most cases, it also brought the people who are doing the complaining. Even many of my sub-contractors used to tell me that they didn't come to Central Florida for Disney, but they were simply too short-sighted to understand that without Disney, they likely never would have gone. Also typical was a general disregard for the good that Disney has done for the area. They don't see the tax dollars generated by the tourists, or the jobs created by the industry, or the jobs created to support the people who work in the industry, or the jobs created etc. etc...
It's funny, because I would have expected this sort of ignorance out of a middle school or maybe a high school kid, but a number of adults, from business owners to architects to church leadership held the same belief. It's pretty ignorant.
